It seems like, with EverQuest's 10th Anniversary celebration going on, a few people have managed to dig out some interesting screenshots of what they remember the world to be like when they started. Today's One Shots is another such example, taking us back to an earlier time of bat and skeleton killing, when people could drop gear they didn't need on low-level mobs and really brighten up a new player's day. This look back comes from the files of Anthony H. who writes in: It has been a few years, but here [is one] of the images I will always remember from EverQuest. This is a screenshot from the first time I really looked at Felwithe. By modern standards, it is nothing special, but it really struck me as a sign of how beautiful EverQuest could be. He's sent in another image, which we'll show off in an upcoming One Shots!

If you've got a really old screenshot from your first-ever MMO still running around somewhere in your files, why not dig it out, dust it off, and send it in to us along with your thoughts on what it was like to be playing back then? We love to look back at the way things were. Just email your screenshot along with your name, the name of the game it's from, and a description to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com. We'll post them out here, and who knows? Perhaps other folks who remember when will pop by and tell us their stories too!

You've heard from the original EverQuest developers, you've seen some nostalgic artwork (with all expansion artwork in our gallery today!) to keep those memories alive, and now we're ready to bring you some thoughts from our own staff here at Massively, as well as our sister site, WoW Insider. It's probably safe to say that most of us have been influenced by EverQuest in some way or another, so who better to give us their fondest memories than those of us who write about MMOs for a living? Follow along below the cut for some memories of EQ from WoW Insider's Lisa Poisso and Daniel Whitcomb, plus one from our very own Brooke Pilley.

For Monday's finale celebrations, we're holding a giveaway where three lucky winners will have the chance to win a 90-day SOE game card to be used towards EverQuest, EverQuest 2, PlanetSide, EverQuest Online Adventures, Star Wars Galaxies or The Matrix Online. Boy do we have a treat for you on this final installment of "10 things I wish I had known before building an MMO", in celebration of EverQuest's 10th anniversary. You may remember today's contributor from a recent artist spotlight. March 16th, 1999: It was on this day that Sony's 989 Studios released what would soon be known as the gateway to a gaming movement. Sure it wasn't the first, but it was responsible for redefining the quality that we know today in the massively multiplayer online genre. That game, of course, was EverQuest, and this month marks its 10th anniversary.

To celebrate this unique occasion, Massively has teamed up with SOE to offer some of the greatest retrospective coverage, galleries, opinion pieces and much more concerning the last ten years of EQ. From today until March 16th, we will present a new article counting down to the anniversary date. You can also check out our EQ 10th Anniversary gallery which will be updated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with new artwork and screenshots, showcasing the last ten years for the game.
