<a href="http://mpogd.com/news/?ID=6780">MPOGD</a> is back with another <a href="http://www.play-earthrise.com"><em>Earthrise</em></a> developer journal, focused again on the sci-fi sandbox's seemingly substantial reservoir of lore and backstory. This time around, readers are treated to a brief history of The Arcology, a terraforming project begun by Continoma (one of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/earthrise"><em>Earthrise's</em></a> major factions) at a point prior to the game's timeline.<br />
<br />
As gamers log into the world of Enterra for the first time, they'll discover that The Arcology now lies ruined and overrun with mutants and other unsavory predators looking to take a bite out of unwary clones and their allies. The research compound, located in the northern Atlas mountains, originally hosted a large variety of plants, animals, and organisms from the far corners of Enterra prior to its destruction in a cataclysmic event known colloquially as the "Backlash."<br />
<br />
Read all the <a href="http://mpogd.com/news/?ID=6780">grisly details</a> over at MPOGD, and also be on the lookout for a new interview with the <a href="http://www.mastheadstudios.com">Masthead</a> dev team coming soon, exclusively on Massively.<br />

There's something to be said for verisimilitude. Despite the fact that we've all accepted limitations in just how much a game can model at any given time, it's nice to be able to break things when you unleash whatever horrible ultimate spell your character of choice is packing. <a href="http://boi.perfectworld.com"><em>Battle of the Immortals</em></a> recognizes this, and that's why one of the big features in <a href="http://boi.perfectworld.com/news/?p=108091">their new teaser trailer</a> is the addition of destructible environments to the game.<br />
<br />
While the game's first major expansion update is ramping up for release, this trailer is for an addition not slated for arrival until spring of 2011. It's a bit of a wait, but the trailer already looks detailed and interesting, promising several graphical and environmental upgrades for the game. Take a look past the cut for the full trailer, and keep your eyes peeled for more news on the updates for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Battle-of-the-Immortals/">Battle of the Immortals</a></em>, as they seem to be coming fast and furious.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/02/battle-of-the-immortals-launches-an-expansion-teaser/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Battle of the Immortals launches an expansion teaser</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/02/battle-of-the-immortals-launches-an-expansion-teaser/">Battle of the Immortals launches an expansion teaser</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 02 Sep 2010 10:00:00 EST. <br />Many <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/07/the-lunar-festival-is-underway-in-azeroth/">MMOs</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/07/trs-chinese-new-year-late/">celebrated</a> Chinese New Year this year, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/categories/guild-wars"><em>Guild Wars</em></a> was no exception with its <a href="http://www.guildwars.com/events/ingame/canthannewyear2008/default.php">Canthan New Year</a>'s event, covered <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/07/guild-wars-version-of-chinese-new-year-starts-friday/">here</a>. Reader Shawn W. took a few great photos of the festival area, available in greater resolution <a href="http://shawnw.org/guildwars/gw001.jpg">here</a>, <a href="http://shawnw.org/guildwars/gw002.jpg">here</a>, and <a href="http://shawnw.org/guildwars/gw003.jpg">here</a>. <br /><br />This shows how just a little extra ornamentation can do wonders to spruce up a piece of well-trod ground. In fact, is there any reason why developers couldn't do something like this on a regular basis? Maybe create texture maps for environmental damage? Display the detritus of a particularly apocalyptic party thrown the night before? If game makers really want to sell the idea of their worlds as living environments, some way to show actual change needs to be developed. <br /><br />[Thanks, Shawn!]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/12/guild-wars-canthan-new-years-celebration/">Guild War's Canthan New Year's celebration</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 12 Feb 2008 10:00:00 EST.
