<br />
The Shadowforge Dwarves are the game's latest race, and players who choose to roll one will begin their adventures in the new Yrvandis Hollows starting area. In addition to the usual newbie zone accoutrements, the area features an instance called the Outskirts of Taffrock that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/frogster">Frogster</a> describes as "particularly challenging." Players will face off against a final boss known as Dark Gargoylem, along with his horde of aggressive spirits that have hunkered down in the lower levels of the ancient dwarven hall.<br />

<em>Runes of Magic</em> is a free-to-play fantasy title developed by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/runewaker">Runewaker</a> and published by Frogster. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/fires-of-shadowforge">Fires of Shadowforge</a> update releases June 12th.<br />

	Welcome to <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/the-secret-world"><em>The Secret World</em>'s</a> Overlook Motel, where the sheets are clean, the service is friendly, and there's an ominous doorway to Hell in every room. Such is the beginning of the second instanced dungeon of <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/funcom">Funcom's</a> upcoming horror-fantasy MMO, which sees players descending deep into the bowels of the underworld to put an end to a raging demonic war that's causing Hell to leak through to the real world.<br />

	I had the pleasure of joining Funcom's Tor Andersen on a guided tour of Hell Raised, the first in a series of three dungeons that take place in the fiery depths, and boy did I ever have a hell of a time (sorry). 	It is a truth universally acknowledged that an MMO in possession of an experienced player-base must be in want of more end-game. In honor of that, and in response to heavy player demand, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/perfect-world"><em>Perfect World International</em></a> is getting a sizable update. <a href="http://pwi.perfectworld.com/news/?p=534471"><em>PWI: Imperial Fury</em></a> will introduce the brand new Advanced Endless Universe dungeon, changes to existing dungeons, and a whole passel of other improvements.<br />
	<br />
	Players are charged with retrieving the Perfect World City Essences within the Advanced Endless Universe dungeon. This dungeon, which will be accessible six times per week, will present one of three variations of itself upon entry. All three variations are distinctly different, and all three will require significant effort and coordination for successful completion. Hard work does not go unrewarded, however, as completion is rewarded with a chance box containing either a brand new skill book or a stack of potent consumable buffs -- and as both the boxes and their drops can be traded, you can always sell anything you don't want for yourself.<br />
	<br />
	Lunar Glade and Warsong City have received a design facelift, had their difficulty ramped up and their rewards increased -- rewards that include materials for upgrading the most powerful gear (at present) in the game.<br />
	<br />
	A temporary and intermittently-recurring NPC, the Aurora Agent, will allow characters over level 80 to trade Tokens of Luck for a chance to get rare and powerful items. There will also be new Bounty Hunter bosses, improvements to Phoenix Valley, more ways to gain Prestige, improvements to player-enemy targeting, the return of Secret Passage to its "more carebear-friendly roots," and more. <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Ultima-Online/">Ultima Online</a></em> is preparing a continuation of the game's latest global arc with <a href="http://www.uoherald.com/node/597?utm_source=twitterfeed&amp;utm_medium=twitter">tomorrow's patch</a>. Act VI of The Awakening asks players to assist in crafting a number of alchemical preparations, with a number of rewards available for players who actively try to crack the puzzle of the correct ingredients. More information will be available from the official site as well as an in-game NPC. If you need more time to prepare, don't worry -- the quest is going active in July and lasting until mid-August.<br />
<br />
If you're not willing to wait, the new patch also sees a revamp of the Covetous Dungeon. The first floor remains largely unchanged, but levels two and three both feature a new system for the game in which players accumulate points for defeating monsters that can later be turned in for new rewards. For those of you unfamiliar with the <a href="http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG">Pathfinder game system</a>, what you need to know is that it's based on the core rules of Dungeons &amp; Dragons 3rd Edition. Needless to say, dungeons feature pretty heavily in the tabletop game. So <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Pathfinder-Online/">Pathfinder Online</a></em> has presented itself with a bit of a conundrum: How can it combine the traditionally instanced format of MMO dungeons with the open-world approach of the game? <a href="https://goblinworks.com/blog/index.html#20120425">As detailed in the latest development blog</a>, the team is aiming at something between the normal instancing methodology and more sandbox-style open regions.<br />
<br />
In short, while dungeons themselves won't be instanced, the entrances will be hidden in various locations. When a dungeon is generated, a player who finds the entrance will have that dungeon locked to him or her until the dungeon is cleared, at which point it will despawn and be replaced by another dungeon. <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Iris-Online/">Iris Online</a></em> players are in for a treat today because it's patch day. And not just the small sort of patch with a bunch of bugfixes, either -- this is the big kind, the kind that opens up new areas and expands the level cap. In fact, it's <em>exactly</em> that kind, as today's update opens four new zones and the Lost Temple of Atlantis for player exploration. The temple is meant as the most challenging dungeon in the game and contains a variety of treasures for players braving its depths.<br />
<br />
Beyond the temple, the new zones give players new chances to strike back and liberate the land from the Sahar, complete with new quests to enjoy. Those new quests will also help as players head for the new level cap of 75, but if that alone isn't enough, the development team is doubling all EXP and SXP rates until April 29th. Players can also earn special treasure boxes for a limited time, a little extra boost for enjoying the game's new content.<br />

Today, <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/en-masse-entertainment">En Masse Entertainment</a> has decided to give us a sneak-peek at one of the high-level dungeons those players can expect in their distant futures: the incredibly foreboding Labyrinth of Terror. 	The Labyrinth of Terror is the dominion of one of the game's big-bads, Killian, and he apparently has a bit of a thing for homicidal entertainers. Twisted jesters and maniacal musicians are just a preview of the fare you'll sample on your way to the main course of Killian's clown-in-command, who also happens to be responsible for the murder of a prominent Amani commander. If you've grown bored in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/seven-souls-online"><em>Seven Souls Online</em></a>, the 1.1 patch is reason to celebrate. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/neowiz">Neowiz</a> is raising the level cap to 50 and adding plenty of new items and gear to match.<br />
<br />
The sci-fantasy adventure also boasts new dungeons that include the Hall of Resurrection (levels 39 to 43) and Purgatorium (levels 45 and up). Both of these gauntlets will dole out "fantastic rewards" upon completion. Finally, gamers can look forward to the new Western Mikan Plains zone as well a huge number of new quests and items to loot and trade. If you're still looking for something to do after you've conquered all the new content, Neowiz is hosting a Lineage of the Sky guild PvP tournament.<br />

Love it or hate it, the dungeon finder has become synonymous with the modern-day MMO. Further evidence in this regard comes via <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/en-masse-entertainment">En Masse Entertainment's</a> latest website update, which trumpets the addition of dungeon finder mechanics to <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tera">TERA</a></em>.<br />

En Masse says that in addition to the standard group-making functionality, its version of the dungeon finder will give players "significant bonuses for grouping, and even send [them] extra rewards when the last boss falls."<br />
<br />
<em>TERA's</em> dungeon loot drops have also been increased across the board, in some cases up to double and triple the rates from past beta weekends. 	The trailer itself takes players inside the raid proper to give them a look at the many enemies they'll be squaring off against. It also gives us the first look at Laethys and Maelforge live and in action, and to say that these two appear formidable would be quite an understatement. They look, in layman's terms, like they're willing and able to mess your day/week/life right up. Free-to-play betas are something of a running joke around these parts, and it's not uncommon to see such games undergoing prolonged testing periods for months (or even years). <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/seven-souls-online"><em>Seven Souls Online</em></a> might be breaking that mold, though, as the title is heading into open beta tomorrow after the conclusion of its closed beta that began <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/massively-exclusive-neowiz-games-gets-bloody-with-seven-souls-o/">earlier this year</a>.<br />

The <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/neowiz-games">NEOWIZ</a> title is heavy on martial arts action, and the new beta will raise the level cap to 40 as well as introduce the new Dragonscale Valley zone, the Inferno dungeon, and open-world PvP combat. Said PvP becomes available at level 31, and you can learn more about <em>Seven Souls</em> -- as well as sign up for beta -- on the game's official website.<br />

	If you've ever looked at an MMO and said something like "this would be a lot better if there was lava-surfing pirate ship helmed by an amazonian captain" or "dragons would be so much cooler if they were made of gold," then you have some very particular and rather peculiar thoughts. Moreover, though, <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/rift">RIFT</a></em> has just the instance for you.<br />
	<br />
	Last week we took <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/trek-through-fire-and-flame-in-rifts-infernal-dawn-raid/">a video tour</a> through the Earth Wing of <em>RIFT</em>'s upcoming raid, <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/infernal-dawn">Infernal Dawn</a>. Now PC Gamer has got some more screenshots and details on the new dungeon, which pits players up against the Golden Maw, the Wanton, and their decidedly daft dragon leaders, Maelforge and Laethys. Laethys, in case we haven't mentioned it yet, is the dragon of earth whose form is composed entirely of delicious gold and precious gems. It's also worth mentioning that this is a dragon whose sacrifice of choice is a pretty boy or girl who has had his or her eyes removed and replaced with rubies. So yeah, may want to take her down ASAP, guys.<br />

The time is now -- <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XIV/">Final Fantasy XIV</a></em>'s sweeping <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/patch121/">patch 1.21</a> is going live. That means players can experience the new Job system, do battle in two new instanced dungeons, and relax in their new private rooms. <a href="http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/39024">The patch notes</a> make it clear that as with most of the game's patches, there's a lot going on even beyond the headlining features for the update, including intra-city teleportation services, new achievement categories to explore, and new ways for players to spend guild marks.<br />

Patch 1.21 also brings along a revision to the food and medicine of the game, with food serving universally as a small long-term buff and medicines working as short effects or buffs with a big impact. The team has also revised accessories, doing away with the previous mechanic of slot costs. Western players have two new things to look forward to when <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tera"><em>TERA</em></a> launches on May 1st: level 59 and level 60. That's right, <a href="http://tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/general-discussion/topics/Personally-I-do-not-want-Queen-of-Argon-patch-at-Launch?page=3#post-124858">according to a forum post</a> by Producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/brian-knox/">Brian Knox</a>, the level cap for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/en-masse-entertainment">En Masse's</a> launch will be bumped up by two levels.<br />

As a result of the level cap increase, the team's had to rework the formerly max-level dungeons. "We have shuffled them around -- some up and some down," Knox writes. "We will have more detailed information on it closer to open beta but it should create a much smoother progression to 60 as well as a good amount of content at level 60."<br />
<br />
For those with many questions about the game, En Masse has launched a new section of the official site called <a href="http://tera.enmasse.com/news/posts/use-tera-answers-to-find-solutions-to-your-questions"><em>TERA</em> Answers</a>. <em>TERA</em> Answers is a knowledge base that allows players to submit and search for questions and answers to game issues. Last weekend, I nabbed a second look at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Funcom/">Funcom</a>'s upcoming MMO <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/The-Secret-World/">The Secret World</a></em>, now scheduled for a June 19th release. I was going in with high expectations, having been blown away by my <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/hands-on-impressions-of-the-secret-world/">first playtest</a> of this modern-world-based MMO, and I'll say that this second visit managed to convince me that this game is on the right track to impress gamers with fresh gameplay, vicious puzzles, an ability wheel full of synergies, and new elite abilities at the top tiers of weapon specializations.<br />
<br />
I <strike>spent</strike> wasted a lot of time during my first visit testing out different builds, but I missed out on some content while doing that, and I realized that abilities and builds are something you'll come to naturally as you progress through the game as you earn ability points, choose where you want to go, and decide how you want to specialize. The wet-behind-the-ears <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/eden-eternal/"><em>Eden Eternal</em></a> is already hard at work beefing up its content, up to and including a brand-new class. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/aeria-games">Aeria Games</a> just released a huge update for the game, and it's hard to say where players should start first.<br />
<br />
Perhaps they should check out the new Ranger class, which excels at ranged damage with a bow, artillery gun, or eagle (don't scoff -- a face-full of eagle will ruin anyone's day). If Rangers aren't your bag, then there's an increased level cap to 65, PvP improvements such as a 3v3 matchmaking system, and new high-level areas and dungeons to explore.<br />
<br />
<em>Eden Eternal </em>just <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/18/eden-eternal-adds-samurai-class-pvp-arenas-and-dungeons/">added the Samurai class</a> to the game last month. You can get a peek at all of this update goodness in the gallery and video below!<br />

I've tried to be patient. I really have. I even avoided any wayward glances at <em><a href="http://na.aiononline.com/">Aion's</a></em> Korean <a href="http://gameguide.na.aiononline.com/aion/Korean+PTS%3A+Initial+3.0+Patch+Notes">patch notes</a> (translated, of course) for 3.0. That way, I could contain my excitement a little better. I mean, we already know I am dying for housing, and I also know mounts are involved. But there is always so much more, and I was trying to make the wait more bearable. I stood firm in my resolve.<br />

Then I broke down. I peeked. And oh how the many-tendriled beast of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/07/wings-over-atreia-anticipaaaaaaaaaaaation/">anticipation</a> took hold of me once again! Of course there is always the requisite "fixed this bug" and "changed that appearance" filler, but when mining deeper, you also find some definite valuable nuggets. <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/aion">Aion's</a></em> next patch has some "how cool," some "oh wow, that's really unexpected," and some "about time!" thrown in as well. From new zones to new <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/06/wings-over-atreia-the-top-19-ways-to-get-your-dungeon-crawl-on/">instances</a> to new features, there is plenty coming our way. Ahhh. There's nothing like the feeling of facing down a formidable foe, beating it into submission, then finally conquering it and pulling from its lifeless corpse some rare and valuable treasure to hold above your head as a trophy of your victory. Of course, this feeling cannot be found in the PvP portion of <em><a href="http://na.aiononline.com/">Aion's</a></em> PvPvE formula; sadly, neither Asmodians nor Elyos drop loot of any kind upon defeat, rare or otherwise (though I have to say adding in the ability to pluck a feather from your vanquished foe would be cool). So that leaves only one way to experience this rush, and that's through the PvE side of the game, and not just any PvE at that: While there is a possibility of valuable drops out in the world, your best chances lie within the instanced dungeons.<br />
<br />
Dungeons are a great way to get away from the masses and all the accompanying interruptions that come with sharing the world with others, such as KSing, unwanted PvP ambushes, and mob trains pulled by some idiot next to you. Think of it as an Atreian vacation! And <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/aion">Aion</a></em> has 19 PvE instanced dungeons ready to whisk you away for a brief respite from the world while simultaneously giving you the chance at some great loot and XP.<br />

<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/06/wings-over-atreia-the-top-19-ways-to-get-your-dungeon-crawl-on/">Last week</a> we covered dungeons available to Daevas under level 40 as well as solo instances. Of course, in most cases, Daevas don't remain under 40 forever (or even for long if whole months of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/13/double-double-your-excitement-and-xp-with-aions-winter-festi/">double-XP weekends</a> crop up!), so there is a need for more places to scratch that dungeon crawl itch. You know 'em -- those places shrouded away from the everyday grind of the world where you can chill-out without being interrupted (excepting spouse aggro), a private nook where you know there is a definite beginning and end to your adventure, one that offers the best possible loot. They are areas often steeped in lore.<br />
<br />
They are... the instanced dungeon.<br />
<br />
There are actually 19 separate PvE dungeons currently in <em><a href="http://na.aiononline.com/">Aion</a></em> where Daevas can get their dungeon crawl on. If you include the Fortress instances, you can add another 10 dungeons to this list. Adding PvP instances raises the number even higher. However, since fort instances are seriously lacking in lore and fort ownership is required (so availability is not assured), we will forego including them. We'll also omit the Dredgions and PvP arenas to keep the list PvE focused -- after all, there are times you really may not want to bother with fighting the enemy!<br />
<br />
This week, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/wings-over-atreia">Wings Over Atreia</a> explores the first half of the dungeon list for the benefit of both young whippersnappers and old-timer Daevas alike. Why would veterans need it? Because dungeons aren't just for certain levels anymore. Free-to-play fantasy MMO <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/rosh-online"><em>Rosh Online</em></a> is flush with its first major content update. The game's level cap is jumping from 55 to 65, and two new maps (Lupinel Chapel Catacomb and the first two floors of Sentryheil Tower) are now available to adventurers across the lands of Asmara.<br />
<br />
The new maps aren't for the faint of heart, as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ignited-games">Ignited Games</a> has populated them with "daunting quests and nightmarish boss monsters." Both dungeons are designed for endgame players, with the Catacombs targeted at level 56 and up, and the Tower providing something to do for players at 61 and above.<br />
<br />
The game's latest update also adds new enchantment items to help with the increased difficulty of the new content, and Ignited has expanded the item shop with "a host of new gear."<br />

The new year may have lost a little of its luster, but it's still pretty new. So what better way to enjoy it than with new content? <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Elsword/">Elsword</a></em>'s developers have apparently decided that there's no better way, bringing players a trio of new dungeons to celebrate the new year and provide plenty of action-based enjoyment for the game's fans. And of course, new dungeons means new enemies to tear apart.<br />
<br />
Each new dungeon is meant to challenge players at a variety of skill levels, from experienced veterans to relative newcomers. Players who find that even the hardest challenges of the dungeons aren't enough can also turn on "Hell Mode," which promises to give players exactly what it says on the tin. A trailer for the new dungeons is just past the break, showing off the new areas and new enemies included in the update -- and really, who wouldn't like a new fistfight for the new year?<br />

<a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/eden-eternal"><em>Eden Eternal's</em></a> latest patch lands today, and <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/aeria-games">Aeria Games</a> is adding quite a bit of content to the free-to-play fantasy romp. There's a new Samurai class, a revamped territory wars mode, and a new monster battle arena designed for PvP encounters.<br />
<br />
The Samurai is a DPS class that uses a katana to slice and dice foes at close range. The class also features a number of buff abilities as well as a heavy-hitting Asura slash airborne attack.<br />
<br />
In addition to the territory wars tweaks and monster arena, Aeria is also adding two new dungeons to <em>Eden Eternal</em>. The instances are designed for level 60 heroes, and each features new bosses and gear. More info is available at the game's official website.<br />

Whether you've been playing <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Age-of-Conan/">Age of Conan</a></em> since launch or you just recently jumped on board with its transition to free-to-play, today will give you a reason to be excited. Today marks the launch of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/House-of-Crom/">House of Crom</a> update, offering players a chance to explore the eponymous structure that sprawls through two enormous dungeons. But that's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of lore, with the two dungeons giving players two different ways to explore the new content.<br />
<br />
One of the two dungeons is an instanced dungeon, but the other one is a social dungeon, allowing multiple groups to explore it at the same time and reap the rewards for braving its perils. Players will be tasked with exploring the structure left by the ancient Atlanteans, hoping to discover the evil that befell this ancient race of people. What's next for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift"><em>RIFT</em></a>? Well, the 1.7 patch, for starters. The update is called <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/carnival-of-the-ascended">Carnival of the Ascended</a>, and if it sounds a bit festive, it is. Telaran weddings are in the offing, as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trion">Trion</a> is introducing a marriage mechanic to its fantasy MMO. There's also the new River of Souls Chronicle, which the official forums bill as an "undead adventure for two."<br />

A new master mode dungeon is coming too, as is an expert dungeon overhaul with more options and better loot for endgame avatars. The House of Crom is basically the Hyborian equivalent of <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em>. It was announced quite a while ago, it was expected long before its actual arrival date, and at long bloody last, it's finally on its way to an <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> server near you.<br />

Thankfully, that's where the similarities end, as the new dungeon is looking quite impressive -- if <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/funcom">Funcom's</a> marketing blurbs are anything to go on.<br />

The latest such features a few paragraphs of textual description regarding the Threshold of Divinity and Vile Nativity dungeons (the House of Crom isn't just one dungeon, but rather a massive new area that supports multiple groups and amounts to the largest indoor dungeon that Funcom has created to date). <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tera"><em>TERA</em></a> has fallen a bit off the radar due to the lengthy gestation period of its North American client release. The game launched in Korea a year ago, and so far <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/en-masse-entertainment">En Masse Entertainment</a> hasn't managed to nail down a definitive launch date for the western version.<br />
<br />
Fortunately, there are fan sites to pick up the slack, and <a href="http://steparu.com/previews/mmo-rpg-previews/775-tera-online-content-explored">Steparu</a> has updated with a trio of <em>TERA</em> gameplay videos sure to warm even the most jaded Arborean heart. The clips are all fairly lengthy, and they feature a Castanic Slayer in various gameplay locales including dungeons, boss fights, and the open world (specifically, the picturesque New Ellenon zone). What separates MMO avatars from we mortals in the real world? Other than a surprising tolerance for 60-pound shoulder armor, we'd have to say, "the near-suicidal tendency to continually dive into long-forgotten caves, castles, and other dungeons of doom," although perhaps there's a few of you who do pull off the side of the road while driving in order to run into an open sewer pipe.  We don't know.<br />

All was quiet at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arenanet">ArenaNet</a> last week as the various members of the <a href="http://www.guildwars2.com/en/"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a> team enjoyed a well-deserved vacation. I'm going to consider it a welcome breather after being drowned in so many squee-worthy updates the previous week and take the opportunity to turn my attention back to <a href="http://www.guildwars.com/"><em>Guild Wars 1</em></a> and another elite area: <a href="http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Urgoz%27s_warren">Urgoz's Warren</a>.<br />
<br />
I really enjoy Urgoz's Warren for a couple of reasons. Obviously, it gives me tons of Kurzick faction, but once you've got the hang of it, it's a fun challenge even without the perks. It's full of environmental effects and hidden enemies that prevent you from simply charging in and blasting away, so you have to think ahead, be careful, and play strategically.<br />

Once upon a time, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest-ii"><em>EverQuest II's</em></a> dungeon finder was a hot-button issue. Some players wanted it, others predicted the doom of grouping, the game, and life as we know it if the feature got implemented. Fast forward a few months and now the dungeon finder is hardly used aside from guildless mid-level players looking for a quick PUG crawl.<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/soe"><br />
Sony Online Entertainment</a> has announced a couple of tweaks designed to incentivize the mechanic, and <a href="http://eq2wire.com/2012/01/02/attempting-cpr-on-dungeon-finder/">EQ2Wire</a> has the relevant developer quotes as well as a bit of commentary on the process. In a nutshell, SOE is adding contested dungeons and daily rewards into the mix. While this may result in a temporary upswing in dungeon finder interest, it doesn't address the primary reason veteran and high-level players shun the mechanic. 	In <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/final-fantasy-xiv"><em>Final Fantasy XIV's</em></a> latest producer's letter, producer <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/naoki-yoshida">Naoki Yoshida</a> stopped by the forums to reflect a bit on 2011 and give fans a look at what's coming up in 2012. Yoshida notes that September 2011 marked the one-year anniversary of <em>Final Fantasy XIV</em> as well as the one-year anniversary of Yoshida's installation as producer and director of the title.<br />

	He goes on to state that "2012 will see [the game] making even larger strides and will prove to be an even bigger test for <em>FFXIV</em>." Next year's first new patch, 1.20b, is already in development, and Yoshida says the team is working diligently on 1.21 features such as the job system, job quests, and two new dungeons. As his final announcement, Yoshida reveals that QA testing for the battle system for the 2.0 client will begin shortly after the new year. Well, it seems as if <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/darkfall"><em>Darkfall</em></a> hasn't fallen off the face of the earth even though <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/aventurine">Aventurine's</a> game updates have been pretty sporadic of late.<br />

As of today there's a new video on the official site that gives us an early glimpse of Agon 2.0. It's worth mentioning that Aventurine has been slaving away on a completely retooled <em>Darkfall</em> client for months now, and even though today's clip clocks in at a relatively paltry 47 seconds, it's good to see some of the fruits of that labor.<br />

Hop past the cut for a look at new water effects, dynamic lighting, a human NPC city, and a new dungeon. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/funcom">Funcom</a> game director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/craig-morrison">Craig Morrison</a> has released his monthly <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/age-of-conan"><em>Age of Conan</em></a> development update a couple of weeks early. Morrison usually closes each month with a summary of where the game has been and where it's going, and the December version is no different save for the mid-month release date.<br />
<br />
While there's a lot of info, the most interesting bits concern the projected live date of the long-awaited House of Crom dungeon. Morrison says that the new content will most likely debut on January 11th or 12th, and that the dungeon will be playable on <em>AoC's</em> test shard over the Christmas holidays.<br />

Also new this month is a detailed explanation of the game's upcoming open-world PvP content. When the new feature was first announced, the game's hardcore PvP community unleashed an epic tidal wave of tears due to suppositions about "PVE sheep trying to pass in PVP wolf's clothing," not to mention concerns about a possible rehash of the game's disastrous Shrines of Bori mechanic. Morrison spends several paragraphs of this month's update explaining what Funcom has learned since Bori, and how that knowledge is going to translate into a fun system that isn't exploitable via PvE mechanics. 	Today's <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/lord-of-the-rings-online"><em>Lord of the Rings Online</em></a> dev diary brings players behind the scenes with the upcoming instance cluster, Ring of Isengard. This new update includes three small fellowships, one fellowship, and one raid, ensuring that there's something for groups of every size. The team is working off the recent success of the instance cluster In Their Absence.<br />

	The team states that "[Ring of Isengard] is a return to the classic <em>LotRO</em> cluster model with In Their Absence's added benefit of tiers." The cluster puts a large focus on interacting with the environment, with the addition of ballistas, saw mills, and more. We are all familiar with dungeons in most MMOs -- they're areas that usually require more than one party member to complete, and they're often (though not always) instanced off from the rest of the game. In the early games like <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Ultima-Online/">Ultima Online</a></em> and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/EverQuest/">EverQuest</a></em>, it would literally take an army of people to get to the bottom of most dungeons. Since those days, the definition of a dungeon has really expanded far beyond the idea of a cave or underground fortress, and the mechanics of dungeons have changed as well. Dungeons in many games no longer require a huge group of people to complete them, but your success or failure greatly depends on whom you bring with you. In <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> has expanded the definition of dungeon to the point that that word no longer makes any sense. BioWare devs call <em>SWTOR</em> dungeons flashpoints.<br />
<br />
Starting at level 10, both the Imperial and Republic factions begin their journey through flashpoints. These hour-long instances tell one-off stories and give you, the player, a greater understanding of what is happening in the greater galaxy. During these adventures, you play a role in the stories of the galaxy's most famous figures. Grand Master Satele Shan, Darth Malgus, and maybe even a person or two from past games all make a appearance in these stories.<br />

At the same time, these instances require strategy. Beyond the break, I will outline the first three flashpoints: the Black Talon, the Esseles, and Bringing Down the Hammer. Did you know that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trickster-online"><em>Trickster Online</em></a> has a story, and that story concerns Don Cavalier, "founder and former leader of [...] the world's biggest and best game company?" Yeah, we didn't either (and no, we're not kidding).<br />

Be that as it may, the real reason for this post is to inform you that <em>Trickster</em> has updated with some new content called The Chaos Tower. The patch includes the titular tower, which brings "hours of never before seen playable content" to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sg-interactive">SG Interactive's</a> free-to-play title. The tower boasts 72 floors of enemies, and the rewards for running the gauntlet are plentiful. The update also introduces a new weapon forging system which allows players to combine Chaos Tower loot items with their existing gear in order to make even more powerful weapons of mass destruction.<br />

	The weather is cooling down, and it's the season for fresh, white, beautiful snow. <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/dragon-nest"><em>Dragon Nest</em></a>, however, wants to turn that snow red with its upcoming update, Scarlet Snow. The new patch, coming sometime in December, will raise the game's level cap to 40. And of course, a raised level cap means new challenges for players to conquer. Saint's Haven will play host to two new nests and dungeons, and there will be plenty of seasonal events for players to see.
