MMORTS gamers have reason to celebrate, as <a href="http://paradoxplaza.com">Paradox Interactive</a> has announced the (latest) launch of its free-to-play <a href="http://dreamlords.com"><em>Dreamlords</em></a> title. A German version of the game was published by <a href="http://gamigo.com">gamigo</a> in 2007, while a North American version originally debuted in the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/first-impressions-dreamlords-the-reawakening/">summer of 2008</a> under the name <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/dreamlords"><em>Dreamlords the Reawakening</em></a>.<br />
<br />
This time around, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/paradox-plaza">Paradox</a> is calling it <em>Dreamlords: Resurrection</em>, and the company is also giving away 1000 Paradox ducats (the game's item shop currency) to anyone and everyone who signs up.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/dreamlords-resurrection"><em>Dreamlords: Resurrection</em></a> was developed by <a href="http://www.lockpick.se/">Lockpick Entertainment</a> and puts the player in the role of a titular guardian and tasks him with inspiring followers, building an army, and engaging in various defend-and-conquer excursions against the Nightmares that roam the world. The game features cooperative PvE play where the player can team up with other Dreamlords, as well as fast-paced PvP combat and RTS staples such as troop and technology research. Paradox has released a new gameplay trailer to celebrate the <em>Dreamlords</em> launch, and you can view it after the cut.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/10/dreamlords-resurrection-launches-paradox-offering-free-ducats/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dreamlords: Resurrection launches, Paradox offering free ducats</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/10/dreamlords-resurrection-launches-paradox-offering-free-ducats/">Dreamlords: Resurrection launches, Paradox offering free ducats</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 10 Mar 2011 19:00:00 EST. One of those game categories that blurs the line a bit is the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/mmorts">MMORTS</a> (massively multiplayer online real-time strategy) game... we'll probably just stick with the acronym from now on. But we've wondered, what exactly can we expect from RTS titles as they adopt more features traditionally associated with MMOs? <br /><br /><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/steven-crews">Steven Crews</a> from <a href="http://www.mmogamer.com">The MMO Gamer</a> spoke with <a href="http://www.petroglyphgames.com/">Petroglyph Games</a> general manager and executive producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/chuck-kroegel">Chuck Kroegel</a> about their upcoming title <a href="http://www.mytheongame.com/"><em>Mytheon</em></a>. The game is a free-to-play, downloadable title that will be supported by microtransactions and focuses on the myths, heroes, and monsters of the world's ancient cultures. Crews asks the questions we think are on a lot of people's minds when they hear "MMORTS" -- <em>"Why bring strategy games into the MMO space? What do you get from a persistent universe that you couldn't get out of something like <a href="http://www.battle.net">Battle.net</a>?"</em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/29/petroglyph-general-manager-chuck-kroegel-on-mytheons-union-of-m/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Petroglyph general manager Chuck Kroegel on Mytheon's union of MMO and RTS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/29/petroglyph-general-manager-chuck-kroegel-on-mytheons-union-of-m/">Petroglyph general manager Chuck Kroegel on Mytheon's union of MMO and RTS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 29 Apr 2009 20:00:00 EST. For a lot of people, the MMO/RTS hybrid has been an unwieldy beast at times. That's not to say there aren't interesting titles to check out, such as <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/first-impressions-dreamlords-the-reawakening/">Dreamlords</a></em>, <em><a href="http://atlantica.ndoorsgames.com/center/default.asp">Atlantica</a></em> and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/first-impressions-saga/">SAGA</a></em>. However, nobody has quite made a huge splash with an MMORTS just yet. So could the recently announced <em><a href="http://www.mytheongame.com/">Mytheon</a></em> be the first game to catch a lot of people's attention? Well, why don't you see for yourself <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3172158">in this 1UP interview</a> with the game's developer, Petroglyph -- whose previous games include <em><a href="http://www2.sega.com/gamesite/universeatwar/fullsite/">Universe at War</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.lucasarts.com/games/swempireatwar/indexFlash.html">Star Wars: Empire at War</a></em>.<br /><br />Since there haven't been any screens -- and probably won't be for a while -- it's hard to make too many judgments at this point. The interview promises some interesting, if not vague, features. So you can bet we'll be on the lookout for any future information about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Mytheon/" style="font-style: italic;">Mytheon</a><span style="font-style: italic;"> in the coming months.</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/10/petroglyph-discusses-design-and-microtransactions-for-mytheon/">Petroglyph discusses design and microtransactions for Mytheon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 10 Jan 2009 11:00:00 EST. Lockpick Entertainment announced today that they have signed an exclusive agreement to distribute their MMORTS game <a href="http://www.dreamlords.com/"><em>Dreamlords -- the Reawakening</em></a> in North America. <a href="http://www.aeriagames.com/">Aeria Games</a>, publishers of <a href="http://stoneage2.aeriagames.com/"><em>Stone Age 2</em></a>, <a href="http://domo.aeriagames.com/"><em>Dream of Mirror Online</em></a> and many, many more free-to-play MMOs, will have <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dreamlords"><em>Dreamlords</em></a> in beta in July, looking forward to an August release.<br /><br />Spencer Chi, producer at <a href="http://massively.com/tag/aeria-games/">Aeria Games</a>, called <em>Dreamlords</em> an answer to gamers' demand for a fun MMORTS (massively-multiplayer online real-time strategy) game. <em>Dreamlords</em> players will be able to buy in-game items and equipment with the Aeria Points currency common to all Aeria's games. Despite the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/planetside">best efforts</a> of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-agency">various MMOFPS</a> titles, MMORPGs continue to be the genre du jour within the massively multiplayer sphere. Whether it's because other variants are less viable or simply because the conventional designs make for an easier pitch when searching for seed funding or publishing deals remains to be seen.<br /><br />One auspiciously under-explored genre so far has been the MMORTS, the fusion of old-school real-time strategy and the massively multiplayer. Part of the reason this genre hasn't seen more action, we think, is because the technical and design challenges inherent are somewhat daunting. In a recent post, <a href="http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=1929">Rock Paper Shotgun's Jim Rossignol takes a look at some upcoming MMORTS titles</a>, including <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/14/dreamlords-the-reawakening-launches-on-june-18th/">the ambitious <em>Dreamlords</em> releasing this week</a>, and reports on what he finds. This blogger still doesn't totally buy the concept, but the proof will likely be in the pudding.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/real-time-strategy-getting-more-massive/">Real-time strategy getting more massive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 17 Jun 2008 11:00:00 EST. At the time of this writing, the official website has not been updated with any information relating to this update. Do we dare assume that "public beta" means "open beta"? <br /><br />While at the site, however, notice the latest news regarding the server move on the 9th of June to "prepare for launch". So, we might be in open beta right now, and we might be seeing a full launch of the game fairly soon. We can't take this tension! When we know anything for sure, we'll let you know.<br /><br />[Thanks, Marcus!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/dreamlords-the-reawakening-now-in-public-beta/">Dreamlords: The Reawakening now in public beta</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 05 Jun 2008 13:00:00 EST. <em><a href="http://www.dreamlords.com">Dreamlord</a></em>'s highly anticipated sequel <em>The Reawakening</em> has now entered the closed beta stage. What does this mean for us? It means the game is closer to release, of course! Initially the beta test will be open exclusively to the registered users of <a href="http://www.fileplanet.com">FilePlanet</a>, but will be made public later next week.<br /><br />If you're not familiar with <em>Dreamlords: The Reawakening</em>, you may be pleasantly surprised by a few of it's features. The game will not only be free to play, but will also offer upgrades, items and gear that will boost your Dreamlord (for money). The best feature of all? There will be a simplified rule system! Yay! It just wouldn't be a current MMO if it didn't have simplified rules. Sigh.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dreamlords-the-reawakening-gallery/">Dreamlords: The Reawakening Gallery</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dreamlords-the-reawakening-gallery/#739525"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/04/15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dreamlords-the-reawakening-gallery/#739524"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/04/14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dreamlords-the-reawakening-gallery/#739521"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/04/12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dreamlords-the-reawakening-gallery/#739511"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/04/11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/dreamlords-the-reawakening-gallery/#739510"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/04/10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/dreamlords-sequel-enters-closed-beta/">Dreamlords sequel enters closed beta</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 07 Apr 2008 19:00:00 EST.
