Summertime is usually a quiet period when it comes to MMO festivals; however, Guild Wars likes to use these slower days as an excuse to throw its annual Dragon Festival. The event, which started today in the game, features a number of special quests in Guild Wars' Asian-themed zones.

Of course, the biggest attraction of the Dragon Festival is the limited-edition mask that players can earn at the end of the event. Each year features a different mask model, which is highly desirable by Guild Warsians -- and it can only be attained during this weekend. Just follow the sound of players shouting "WHERE IS HAT?"

If you haven't sent your characters to the party zone in Factions' Cantha yet, you shouldn't fret as it's a fairly painless process. Those looking for a quick-and-dirty guide to the Dragon Festival would do well to check out our suggestions from last year!

I'm excited about the Dragon Festival. Not even for the loot -- my clicky titles are maxed and my guild mates will be benefiting from any sugar, booze, and party items I happen across -- but just for the sake of the event. I love the festivities, the anticipation of the finale, the laughs given by the Canthan actors in their Grasp costumes, and I love that the enjoyment is shared by so many other players. It's great fun, and only being able to access the events a few days a year makes them even better. The only thing that would make it better would be a minipet. I do love me some minipets. Ah well.

If you're new to Guild Wars, it can be a little confusing. What's going on here? Why are we partying? Where do I find the event? Why is everyone talking about a mask? Why did that Grawl just drop a Victory Token? (I don't get that last thing either. Do Grawl take pleasure cruises to other continents now? Was it a souvenir that he picked up while visiting?)

It's that time of year again. The Guild Wars Dragon Festival is nearly upon us, bringing quests and special missions, re-opening the Monastery Boardwalk, and putting a huge amount of sweets, alcohol, party supplies, and presents into circulation.

The festival, which celebrates the survival of the Empire of the Dragon, is an old favorite with the Guild Wars community. The party begins this year on July 1st, and the official Guild Wars site offers a nicely-done schedule of events, dates and times for players.

Another time-honored Dragon Festival tradition is the ritual chanting of "How do I get a hat?" in local chat. The answer to this question is "Have 250 Victory Tokens in your inventory and be here when the Emperor comes on Sunday." It's a good thing to know, because this year's hat (mask) hints at something special: "This year's mask design is inspired by the great dragons of legend."

Shades of Guild Wars 2? We'll know in just over a week.

Last weekend was not only a time for partying in the real world; it was the Dragon Festival in Guild Wars as well. Players got to compete in mini-games for fun prizes that not only gave permanent costume pieces, but cool temporary effects like the one above. This fantastic Guild Wars One Shots comes to us from Ken Z. who writes in: I thought you might enjoy seeing Shing Jea Monastery from the Boardwalk. This is what happens when you drink a Mysterious Tonic and get lucky. I had my mini kuny out too, it gave it a nice effect. You are looking east from the boardwalk to see the special decorations in a side area of the monastery itself.

From little details to big landscapes, we love to see what you're doing in your favorite MMO! If you're one of the many Guild Wars players out there, you're probably well aware of the festival that occurs right around this time each year. If, like some others, you have Guild Wars - probably even installed on your machine, but haven't logged in for a little while - then now is the time to head back in-game! Why? Because it's time for the Shing Jea Boardwalk to reappear, heralding the opening of the annual Dragon Festival.

Compared to the demon mask being offered as a turn-in for 250 Victory Tokens last year, the team at Arenanet have really outdone themselves with this year's wicked-looking Imperial Dragon Mask, seen above. Players who want one of these shiny, limited-time holiday masks will have to bring their best skills to the mini-games on the boardwalk like Dragon Arena and the Rollerbeetle Races. The event runs through Sunday, July 5th for those wanting to get in on the party and score some wicked limited-time Guild Wars goodies.

Happy Fourth of July! Yes, here in America it's the day to celebrate our nation's birthday with fireworks and BBQ, and lots of different games are going to be shooting off their own fireworks and otherwise holding celebrations this afternoon and evening to enjoy. Our Tip of the Day has a nicely comprehensive list of what's going on around the virtual realms already -- from free food and beer in Warcraft to a Void Storm in Everquest and the Dragon Festival of Guild Wars, there's tons of stuff to do ingame, no matter where you are.

The 2008 edition of the annual Guild Wars Dragon Festival is set to kick off starting next Thursday, July 3rd. The events, prizes, and loot drops are set to run through the evening of Sunday, July 6th PST. Every year the Canthans (the culture from Guild Wars: Factions) celebrates a festival of fireworks, mini-games, and fantastic prizes. Every year the Canthans hand out a terrifying Demon mask, and this is your chance to win the 2008 variety. You can catch it on the right, on a fearsome warrior's visage.

How do you get that mask? Glad you asked! Victory tokens are available for successfully completing the aforementioned mini-games, and you'll need 250 of those bad boys in order to claim the mask. Head over to the Shing Jea Boardwalk to play the games, try out the new missions (new ones every day), and be sure to be there on the final day of the Festival for Emperor Kisu's proclamation and mask distribution. Happy Dragon Fest!
