Love it or hate it, <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> is the 900-pound gorilla of the MMO market at the moment. Nearly everyone who games online has at least tried it, and even those of us who play other games very possibly still play it as an old standby. So it's hard to miss the news about the newest expansion, <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/cataclysm/"><em>Cataclysm</em></a>, which is poised to remake the world in many ways. It's also home to an ambitious series of overhauls to classes and their talent structure, with far-reaching changes for every class in the game. <br />
<br />
Our sister site, <a href="http://www.wow.com">WoW.com</a>, has been keeping abreast of the development team's slow roll of new information about each class, with every class but Paladins having their upcoming changes previewed. (Paladins are due out on the 16th, due to being "deep in development.") They've also gone through an in-depth analysis of each different set of changes, from the good to the bad. So if you've played the game at all -- and the odds are you have -- take a look past the break for a quick version of everything coming when <a href="http://www.wow.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> brings down the end of the world.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/10/a-roundup-of-world-of-warcrafts-major-class-changes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>A roundup of World of Warcraft's major class changes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/10/a-roundup-of-world-of-warcrafts-major-class-changes/">A roundup of World of Warcraft's major class changes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 10 Apr 2010 13:00:00 EST. Rewards have, more often than not, been things that make your character better. You complete a quest and you get a new piece of equipment, or access to a new area, or even just a nice handful of experience toward the next level. But we've recently talked a bit about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/11/to-level-no-more-forever/">how leveling, and progression by extension, can get rather tedious</a>. <a href="http://spinksville.wordpress.com/">Spinksville</a> also talked about this, discussing <a href="http://spinksville.wordpress.com/2010/01/12/rewarding-the-character-vs-rewarding-the-player/">the differences between player rewards and character rewards</a>, with the former being general rewards that stick with the player and aren't contingent upon or related to power level.<br />
<br />
An excellent example is that of Klingons in <a href="http://startrekonline.com"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a>. The race has been a staple of the series ever since it began, and the Klingon Empire is one of the major political factions in the game... but it's not initially accessible to players. You have to complete a mission or reach Level 6 in order to unlock the option of playing a Klingon. Similarly, <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> gates its first hero class, the Death Knight, by requiring a level 55 character before one can be created.<br />
<br />
Player rewards contribue less to a sense of avatar progress, but they also help keep the power level slightly lower, as well as providing benefits that you can take with you, so to speak. On the other hand, they're vulnerable to feeling less like rewards because they're unrelated to the character who obtained them. We've all been well-versed in the endgame grind for gear acquisition, however, so <a href="http://spinksville.wordpress.com/2010/01/12/rewarding-the-character-vs-rewarding-the-player/">the post's call for more player rewards</a> might be a welcome change for many of us.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/player-rewards-versus-character-rewards/">Player rewards versus character rewards</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 13 Jan 2010 20:00:00 EST. When you've already made it to <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a>'s</em> endgame, run a character or two up, raided, gathered all manner of extra achievements and the like, what are you to do? Why, start over! This excellent screenshot comes to us from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Veng/">Veng</a> of the Lothar server, who tells us a bit more about it: <em>The brilliant colors of the sky matched the burning farm as the young Death Knight wings away having rained destruction down from above. A good day's work. The Lich King will be pleased.</em><br /> <br />Do you have screenshots from a bit of high-flying adventure? If so, you should send those in to us - after all, aerial shots like this are better when you share the experience! Just pop them in an email to us at <strong>oneshots AT massively DOT com</strong> along with your name, the name of the game and a brief description. We'll share it with our readers and give you the credit! <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/">One Shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2704109"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os864_eq2_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2700179"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os863_fe_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2695825"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os862_lotro_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2691569"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os861_co_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2687909"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os860_wow_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/12/one-shots-fiery-skies/">One Shots: Fiery skies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 12 Jul 2009 14:00:00 EST. This has been on the horizon for some time but <a href="http://www.jlmpacificepoch.com/newsstories?id=145864_0_5_0_M">JLM Pacific Epoch</a> are reporting that <a href="http://www.the9.com/en">The9</a>, the publisher of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> in China have lost their license to publish the game to rival <a href="http://corp.163.com/eng/home.shtml">NetEase</a>.<br /><br />According to the report, an internal letter was sent out to employees of The9 from company president Xiaowei Chen on earlier today suggesting that the license had been lost and that Blizzard have requested the servers, data and employees relating to the game be transfered to another local publisher. There have been <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/rumor-chinas-the9-may-lose-licensing-rights-to-world-of-warcraft/">some concerns</a> about the company's financial state given the fact that Chinese players are still playing <em>The Burning Crusade</em> six months after the EU/US launch of <em>Wrath of the Lich King</em>. There have also been <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/16/china-to-impose-more-restrictions-on-foreign-online-games/">reports of</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/wrath-of-the-lich-king-rejected-thus-far-by-chinese-government/">issues relating to <em>Wrath</em>'s content</a>, leading many to believe the game <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/wrath-of-the-lich-king-rejected-thus-far-by-chinese-government/">has been banned</a>, even though this is not the case. The9's license was due to expire on June 8th.<br /><br />The report also says that, according to an unnamed source, NetEase will formally announce the license later today.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/04/15/the9-reportedly-loses-wow-license-in-china-to-netease/">The9 reportedly loses WoW license in China to NetEase</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 15 Apr 2009 12:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Sometimes, there's just nothing as relaxing as taking a ride around the countryside in your favorite game. Unless, of course, you're a Shaman or Death Knight in <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>, in which case you're not limited to just countryside! Today's One Shots is of Massively's very own <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/bloggers/kyle-horner">Kyle Horner</a>, who just loves to run around on water. He thinks it's fun to taunt Shamans with the fact that they're not alone in being able to do this for themselves now. (He'd better hope his guild doesn't have mainly Resto Shaman healers in it or he's going to be hurting for heals on raids.) <br /><br />If you're in the mood to take silly screenshots, we're in the mood to show them off! Just email them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name and the game the image is from. We'll post it out here and give you credit for sending it in. (We also may make up something <em>completely</em> untrue about the image, just for the hell of it - there again, we may not.) <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/">One Shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2704109"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os864_eq2_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2700179"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os863_fe_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2695825"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os862_lotro_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2691569"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os861_co_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2687909"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os860_wow_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div>

It's been a while since <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a> was released and in that time we've seen a lot of crazy stuff happen. Namely, <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wotlk">Wrath of the Lich King</a> launched, became the fastest selling PC game of all time and rocketed <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a> into an even high number of subscriptions. And with everyone spending the last couple of months in Azeroth -- myself included, admittedly -- I felt it was about time to hang up my Death Knight armor, grab a halberd and run around as a crazed Dark Elf wearing way too many spikes and blades for his own good.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/17/the-digital-continuum-checking-in-with-warhammer-online/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Digital Continuum: Checking in with Warhammer Online</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/17/the-digital-continuum-checking-in-with-warhammer-online/">The Digital Continuum: Checking in with Warhammer Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 10:00:00 EST. Class balance is always a touchy subject, depending on the class a person plays. But <a href="http://wowriot.gameriot.com/blogs/World-of-Ming/State-of-the-Game-Class-Balance-Report-1">WoWRIOT has put together</a> an impressive look a class balance in a post-WotLK <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a></em>. After looking through much of the post, we're pretty impressed with its accuracy and overall take on current class balance, especially as it pertains to arena and PvP.<br /><br />Normally, those who actually play the game are much more interested in these kinds of balance overviews. However, the article contains <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/13/analyzing-the-upcoming-changes-to-death-knights-in-world-of-warc/">an extensive look at Death Knights</a> and everything about where their place in the game is right now. So for anybody who's been curious as to what's going on with the first new class in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/World-of-Warcraft/">World of Warcraft</a></em>, we'd say the article is definitely worth a look. For everyone who does play the game, it's probably a good idea to at least check out your class (or classes) if only to see why you should or shouldn't be upset with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/">Blizzard</a>.<hr />

There are times when you just <em>know</em> you've gotten in over your head. Of course, to the resourceful player, this just means a fun challenge! One such occasion is the subject of today's <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a> </em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/One-Shots/">One Shots</a>, sent in to us by Greeen, who has been playing a Gnome Death Knight. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Greeen/">Greeen</a> writes in:<em> This shot was taken in the Valgarde Catacombs. My first reaction was "Gulp!" ! The second one: "Attack!" The third: "Run Forrest, run!" Luckily this is from a quest where one receives a temporary immunity bubble - otherwise my little gnome Death Knight, Blues, would really have to show what she can do.</em>...<br /><br />Are you once again (or perhaps for the first time) turning to Azeroth for your adventure? If you've snapped a fun screenshot from your favorite game - no matter the MMO - we'd love to see it! Send it in to us here at <strong>oneshots AT massively DOT com</strong> along with your name and the game it is from. Descriptions are optional, but always welcome. It's been a good year for the second expansion to <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a></em>, but things just got even better. Edge Magazine has tossed up it's top 30 of 2008 and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wotlk">Wrath of the Lick King</a></em> <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/features/edges-top-30-2008?page=0%2C3">placed at number sixteen</a>. The expansion is the only MMO on the list, which is saying a lot in a year when <em><a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a></em> and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mines-of-moria/">Mines of Moria</a></em> came out, impressing many players.<br /><br />The placement is attributed to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard">Blizzard's</a> re-imagining of what's possible in Azeroth through new quests and zones, as well as the addition of the Death Knight class. We've got to agree with them there, which is why Massively <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/massivelys-best-of-favorite-expansion-of-2008/">awarded Wrath with the best expansion of 2008</a>.<hr />

The Death Knight is a pretty fun class, but anyone who's been playing one since launch knows it's a bit lacking in the tanking department at times. And for a class that wears only plate armor and has talent builds that focus on either giving damage or taking damage, it's kind of important to be able to take a few hits. So when the new Death Knight changes hit the public test realms, <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/12/11/patch-3-0-8-analysis-of-death-knight-changes/">WoW Insider was all over it</a>.<br /><br />Overall it looks like each of the three talent trees have been tweaked to fall in line with what they're supposed to offer a player. Blood gives good singular-target damage, while healing the Death Knight, Frost is all about tanking and taunting and Unholy is a blend of support and area of effect damage spells. So, in other words, it looks as though <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/">Blizzard</a> is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/one-shots-walking-the-chicken/">making mostly positive changes</a> here. We'll be curious to see if anything is changed <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/wow-insiders-new-writer-comes-in-from-the-blizzard/">as it's tested out by players</a>, because well, that is the point of testing out an upcoming patch after all.<hr />

<div align="left">While we've seen several views of the new Death Knight starting area that came in as part of <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em>'</a>s recent expansion, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/WrathoftheLichKing/">Wrath of the Lich King</a></em>, we're really quite fond of this one. It gives you something of an idea of just how small players feel in terms of size while standing next to the Lich King and his cursed sword, Frostmourne. Today's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/One-Shots/">One Shots</a> of Arthas and Frostmourne comes to us from Veng, who captured this image when she started her own Death Knight. Chilling!<br /><br />There's lots of new graphical hotness in several games that we haven't seen yet, so what are you waiting for! Grab some screenshots of those new areas and send them to us here at <strong>oneshots AT massively DOT com</strong> with your name and which game they're from. You're welcome to add a description, shout out to your guild, holiday wishes, or what have you. Please remember to turn your UI off (check your keybind options if you're not sure how in your favorite game) and sized at 1024px across or larger. We'll post them up here for everyone to enjoy and give you the credit for sending the image in.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/">One Shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2704109"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os864_eq2_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2700179"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os863_fe_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2695825"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os862_lotro_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2691569"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os861_co_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/one-shots/#2687909"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2010/02/os860_wow_1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div>

The Book of Grudges, a <em><a href="www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a></em> blog, is <a href="http://bookofgrudges.wordpress.com/2008/11/21/bringing-in-new-classes/">taking an interesting look</a> at <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.lordoftherings.com">Lord of the Rings Online</a></em> and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Warhammer-Online/">Warhammer Online</a></em> -- the big three, basically -- and the fact that each of them is currently adding classes to their game worlds. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/the-daily-grind-where-do-you-see-yourself-in-a-year-mmo-wise/">What's even more interesting</a> is that each of these three games is handling their new classes in very different fashions. Death Knights are a big epic instanced experiences; Runekeepers and Wardens are designed to be solo-able and compliment each other well and Knights of the Blazing Sun and Black Guards are being integrated into the game the game via a special in-game event.<br /><br />It's interesting that you could play each of the new class experiences in succession and none of them would operate in the same way. That's a surprisingly large amount of variety <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/15/the-digital-continuum-fantasys-upcoming-vacation/">between three very-fantasy titles</a> -- one of which is based in the origin of high-fantasy.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/21/a-look-at-the-new-classes-of-wow-lotro-and-war/">A look at the new classes of WoW, LotRO and WAR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 14:30:00 EST. With <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/WrathoftheLichKing/">Wrath of the Lich King</a> imminent, we thought it would be a good idea to take a short look at just what has made and continues to make <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a></em> so different than many other MMOs and whether or not it still retains that oh-so-different sheen. After four years of being pretty much the biggest dog in the yard, does <span style="font-style: italic;"><em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/World-of-Warcraft/">World of Warcraft</a></em></span> still bring new ideas to the table? Unless you took a few personal days for the launch, in which case you're surely lost to the ice wastes for now, and we'll see you in a few days when you return for pizza and other supplies.</div>

<div align="left">Last night was generally a time for merriment and revelry, as many <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> players talked in lines around the world about just what they were going to do when they first got into game. Would it be the frozen tundra of Northrend, with new races and achievements by the score? Or would they instead be starting a new character and heading for Arthas' floating Necropolis? Surprisingly, among two of the people discussing just what they'd be doing in the strange new lands that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/">Blizzard</a> built were two of Blizzard's very own co-founders; <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Morhaime">Mike Morhaime</a>, Blizzard's CEO, and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Pearce">Frank Pearce</a>, Blizzard's Executive VP of Product Development. <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/11/13/blizzard-execs-havent-started-lich-king-yet-need-naming-tips/">MTV's Multiplayer blog</a> had a launch-night chat with with both Morhaime and Pearce, and discovered neither one of them has really played through the <em>Wrath</em> content as yet. <br /><br />As if that weren't strange enough, it would appear that both men really haven't thought about rolling a Death Knight - or for that matter, what they'd name theirs if they do. We know people who <em>weren't in beta</em> that have planned talent trees, gear progression and more for their Death Knights, so drawing a blank on a good name seems a bit strange to us. Of course, Pearce's reasoning for not going Death Knight is one many <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft/"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> players can likely relate to; he doesn't want to get left behind on his main by his guild, as he was when <em>Burning Crusade</em> launched. But Morhaime, well, we'll have to cut him slack for being the CEO of a company making oodles of money and in heavy development and marketing cycles between <em>Wrath</em>, <a href="http://starcraft2.com/"><em>StarCraft II</em></a> and <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/"><em>Diablo III</em></a>. Our suggestion would be to take a few well-deserved days off and enjoy some gaming; we hear there's this <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wrath-of-the-lich-king/">really popular new MMO expansion just came out</a> that they might enjoy. <br /></div>

WoW Insider speculates that these lucky <em>WoW</em> players must have had copies of the game and upgraded accounts ready to go, in order to jump in so quickly. <br /><br />However, for the rest of us, there's been official word from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard</a> on when <em>Wrath</em> becomes playable. Syndri, a Blizzard Poster on the official World of Warcraft forums, <a href="http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=12645264703&amp;sid=1">states</a>: <em>"The Wrath of the Lich King will be revealed on all North American realms -- including Oceanic realms -- at 9pm PST."</em> So there you go. As for the rest of us, we're just hoping that the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/wows-11th-hour-server-issues-continue/">server issues are fully resolved</a> and that everything else goes smoothly with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/the-daily-grind-midnight-release-party-or-no/">what is likely the biggest midnight launch</a> in MMO history.<br /><hr />

<a href="http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/previews/34827/Hands_On_World_of_Warcraft_Wrath_of_the_Lich_King.html">X-Play</a> took a look at the upcoming <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wotlk">Wrath of the Lich King</a></em> expansion for <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com">World of Warcraft</a></em> and while no new ground was covered on the information front, they did get a look at one of the final battles in the Death Knight starting quest line. Of course, if you're trying to avoid any sort of spoilers concerning the Death Knight or <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/wotlk-launch-events-announced-meet-other-fans-get-your-copy/">generally anything WotLK-related</a>, you may not want to risk taking a look at the segment.<br /><br />Worry not though, because as we said there ain't much meat on them bones. One thing the segment does point out is that this expansion is yet again aimed solely on high-level content. The subject isn't new by any means, but it did serve to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/11/the-daily-grind-do-expansions-cheapen-all-that-hard-work/">remind us that old-world content</a> could really use some love from Blizzard once in a while. You can find the video after the break.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/x-play-delves-into-wrath-of-the-lich-king/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X-Play delves into Wrath of the Lich King</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/x-play-delves-into-wrath-of-the-lich-king/">X-Play delves into Wrath of the Lich King</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 12 Nov 2008 15:00:00 EST. When <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>Burning Crusade</em></a> first came out, people at endgame started out in (generally) a pretty decently matched set of raiding or quested gear. Within a few levels, most looked like they'd been hitting <a href="http://www.gucomics.com/comic/?cdate=20080827"><em>Bob's Discount Armor and Party Supplies</em></a> for gear. While it's not true of all quest armor that you pick up, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Deadend/">Deadend</a> sent in this screenshot to show that apparently <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/">Blizzard</a> decided to go more towards a more uniform look in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft/"><em>Wrath</em></a> quest armor. Beats looking like an overblown pinata again, eh?<br /><br />If you're in <em>Wrath</em>, if you're in regular <em>World of Warcraft</em>, or if you're playing another non-Blizzard MMO altogether, we'd love to see your screenshots. Just snag some and send them to us here at <strong>oneshots AT massively DOT com</strong> along with your name/server/group and a quick description of what we're seeing. It's short but sweet.<br /><br />It's so short, in fact, that we can give you most of the info right here. You'll be able to create a Death Knight on any realm on which you already have an level 55 or higher character. Eventually, you'll be able to create one on a different server, but for now the only way to get a Death Knight to a totally new realm is to create it on your current realm and then do a paid transfer.<br /><br />Don't worry -- there's good news too! If your level 55 is Horde, you'll be able to start up an Alliance Death Knight and vice versa, so long as you're not playing on a PvP realm. You're only allowed one Death Knight per realm though.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/10/06/blizz-posts-dk-creation-faq/">WoW Insider</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/death-knight-character-creation-faq-preps-players-for-wrath-of-t/">Death Knight character creation FAQ preps players for Wrath</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 07 Oct 2008 18:00:00 EST. The official <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>WoW</em></a> website's <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/talent-index/wrath.html">talent tree calculator</a> now represents the current <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wrath-of-the-lich-king"><em>WotLK</em></a> build's talent trees for all classes, including the new <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/death-knight">Death Knight</a> prestige class.<br /><br />You can try on all sorts of new specs taking into account the talent tree changes and new abilities coming in the expansion, which is due out later this year.<br /><br />The most interesting aspect to this is the ability to really explore in detail what kinds of abilities are available to the Death Knight. The information has been public for a while but if you haven't been following every single interview, it's cool to be able to go to one place and interact with what's there.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/31/try-a-wrath-of-the-lich-king-talent-spec-on-for-size/">Try a Wrath of the Lich King talent spec on for size</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 31 Aug 2008 18:00:00 EST. In a sea of <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath">Wrath of the Lich King</a></em> beta reviews, it's nice to occasionally get some that aren't aimed towards the hardest of the hardcore, consisting of flavor-of-the-week buzzwords and catchy acronyms. Over at the <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/08/25/massive-weekend-world-of-warcraft-wrath-of-the-lich-king">MTV Multiplayer blog</a>, we get treated to a casual review of the <em>Wrath</em> beta, focusing on the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/death-knight/">Death Knight</a> and the character carry-over experience.<br /><br />In this review, we're told of this player's thoughts on how <em>WotLK</em> is "more of the same - but better." They're particularly happy with how the Death Knight isn't just a new class thrown into the mix, but it has its own storyline and unique set of skills that combine elements of the other classes. The achievement system is also discussed (and praised) in detail, but just enough to interest people who may be looking at <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> for the first time. Yes, there are people like that out there somewhere.<hr />

If you're looking to get a head start on the new <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> expansion, <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath"><em>Wrath of the Lich King</em></a>, you might be a bit overwhelmed on where to start. Should you hoard mats, and if so, which ones? Since everyone and their grandmother will be making a <a href="http://www.wowwiki.com/Death_Knight">Death Knight</a>, should you be making some twink gear to sell and make mega gold before that bubble bursts?<br /><br />In <a href="http://tobolds.blogspot.com/2008/08/preparing-for-wrath.html">Tobold's most recent blog post</a>, he gives us some insight into his own pre-launch plans. Stocking up on mid-level herbs and Runecloth for the Death Knight, who will start their First Aid at 270 automatically, might be a good plan. This is certainly an exciting time for you MMO economic strategists out there, so we're wondering what your plans are for the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wotlk">WotLK</a></em> preparation. Let us know!<br /><hr />

WoW Insider has a <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/08/09/death-knights-gain-new-rune-set-new-cosmetic-changes/">wonderfully Death Knighty (it's a word, we swear!) gallery up</a> that features their recently upgraded look. Now your brand new Hero class will come with blue glowing eyes of despair that will haunt your foes for an enternity! Oh, plus <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/">Blizzard</a> added in some new rune graphics for the Death Knight's class mechanic. They're apparently much improved over the last set, so it's a good thing.<br /><br />After looking through the gallery, we were suddenly reminded of a particular blog post about Batman by a Mr. Warren Ellis. We've never been afraid of a Gnome (well, there was this one time on an RP server in Goldshire) but today, we have known fear and its name is Gnome Death Knights.

One of the biggest reasons to have any interest in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard's</a> upcoming <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath/">Wrath of the Lich King</a></em> expansion is the addition of Death Knights as a hero class. The promise of hero classes is that they'll feel incredibly epic in their own unique way. So do they? The folks over at WoW Insider have had <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/08/07/the-death-knight-starting-experience/">a chance to play through the Death Knight starting experience</a> (apparently it's actually called that) and have their impressions up for those of you that must know the answer.<br /><br />After reading through the write-up we have to admit that it sounds like Blizzard is keeping their word. Death Knights should be an epic experience for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft/">World of Warcraft</a></em> players. It also sounds like this is <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/07/18/deathknight-starting-cinematic-unveiled/">some of Blizzard's best MMO designing to date</a>. We know that's a mighty claim to make but it really does seem to be the truth. You can <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/category/wrath-of-the-lich-king/">check out the bevy of information about Wrath coming from WoW Insider</a> if you want to find other reasons to get excited for the second expansion. <hr />

This week we learn that his silence was due to a trip to Northrend. Now he's back, with a bunch of information you're going to want to read. His first big post since getting back from the frozen north is all about the <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/death-knight">Death Knight</a>. Lume has <a href="http://www.lumethemad.com/2008/07/22/wotlk-beta-review-the-death-knight-tutorial/">an extensive writeup of the Death Knight starting zone</a>, with several videos supporting his description.<br /><br />If you're not worried about spoilers, this is a must-see. He breaks down the three or four hour starting zone experience into quest chains, covering your actions as a newly-minted carrier of death and runic magic. The last two chains sound truly epic, and while we won't go into them here anyone who <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/07/18/death-knights-at-the-dawn/">enjoyed the DK lore post WoW Insider recently put up</a> will find their fondest wishes confirmed. He completely transcribes the text of the last quest, making it a must-read for lore junkies. Go check it out and see yet another reason to hope that travel to Northrend begins soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/lume-the-mad-reviews-the-death-knight-starting-zone/">Lume the Mad reviews the Death Knight starting zone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 22 Jul 2008 15:30:00 EST. <div align="left"> With the<em> <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath/">WotlK</a> </em>NDA crushed and thrown away there's an information upheaval. <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com">WoW Insider</a> <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/07/21/wrath-of-the-lich-king-beta-weekend-coverage-roundup/">is sorting through the overload</a> and what will set <em>WotlK</em> apart from <em>TBC</em> is the Death Knight. It's the first new class introduction since <em>World of Warcraft</em> launched in 2004. Sure, there is some cause for concern. The big question on many minds is will the class be over powered? If you aren't in the beta maybe the following three videos will help you decide. Each video showcases a different talent tree: Unholy, Frost, and Blood. The videos are courtesy of Leiah, <em>WotlK</em> beta tester and MMOG blogger at <a href="http://jadefury.blogspot.com/">World of Feedback</a>. <br /></div>
</center><br />The video above displays the Death Knight thrashing around in the <a href="http://www.wowwiki.com/Pools_of_Aggonar">Pools of Aggonar</a> and specialized in Unholy. What stands out is the <a href="http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=49938">Death and Decay,</a> a powerful AE ability, which leaves a wake of destruction in its path. When used in conjunction with <a href="http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=51328">Corpse Explosion</a> and two Blood tree talents: <a href="http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=49483">Butchery</a> and <a href="http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=50154">Vendetta</a>, a lethal combo ensues as each kill returns 6% health and 20 runic power. <a href="http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=49039">Lichborne</a>, <a href="http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=49222">Bone Armor</a>, and <a href="http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=50977">Death Gate</a> are also used. You can also see the sacrificial ghoul explode and deal 2,000 extra damage. The other two Death Knight build videos are after the break.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/wotlk-death-knight-in-action-in-three-videos-that-showcase-a-di/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>WotlK: Death Knight talent builds showcased in three action clips</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/wotlk-death-knight-in-action-in-three-videos-that-showcase-a-di/">WotlK: Death Knight talent builds showcased in three action clips</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 21 Jul 2008 11:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/">Blizzard</a>'s <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/wwi08">Worldwide Invitational</a> just wrapped up, and aside from the highly anticipated announcement about <em>Diablo III</em>, there were also a huge amount of changes announced for <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>. From Shamans getting the ability to have their totems cover the entire raid as opposed to just their party, to the confirmation that you will be able to make a <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/Death-Knight/">Death Knight</a> of every playable race. Many players are buzzing about the upcoming changes. <br /><br />This morning we thought we'd ask you what you thought the most interesting <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/World-of-Warcraft/">World of Warcraft</a></em> news was from the Paris Worldwide Invitational? This blogger thinks that her favorite thing (aside from <em>Diablo III</em>, which really isn't <em>WoW</em> news) is the unveiling of the Blizzard authenticator encryption keychain. It will be interesting to see if other MMOG companies follow this step or not.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/01/the-daily-grind-best-news-from-wwi/">The Daily Grind: Best news from WWI?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 01 Jul 2008 08:10:00 EST. As <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> slowly progresses to the release of <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath/index.xml"><em>Wrath of the Lich King</em></a>, the juicy tidbits keep hearthing our way. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard</a> recently took some time to release some more <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?GAMEID=15&amp;SETVIEW=news&amp;SHOWARTICLE=10785&amp;bhcp=1">information concerning Northrend</a> within <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wrath-of-the-lich-king"><em>Wrath of the Lich King</em></a>. There are a few glimpses at new dungeons, some notes on vehicle combat, and some new screens of snow and ice. The big feature is an entirely new site devoted to the new class, the Death Knight. <br /><br />Not surprisingly, the updates come rather close to the release of <em><a href="http://www.ageofconan.com">Age of Conan</a> </em>and are filled with content information and a nifty little Death Knight animation. The <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath/features/gameplay/index.xml">new <em>WotLK</em> gameplay features</a> talk about some rather major changes to quest mechanics and, most importantly, raid mechanics. For the hardcore raider in you, the instances now carry a 10 and 25 man raid that are the exact same instances, but offer different ways to advance. Players taking on the 25 man content will get better rewards, but the shift is meant to allow more folks to absorb the new content. <br /><br />If some extra power is needed, the <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath/features/deathknight/gameplay.xml">new Death Knight class</a> will be a welcome friend (oddly enough) in any raid or group with his all powerful skills. Unlocking this class of doom is an easy task. Simply have a level 55 character and the class is open to you. Then you create your Death Knight and start raising skeletons to do your bidding! The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/wows-wrath-of-the-lich-enters-alpha-testing/">expansion is still in alpha testing</a>, but make sure to check out some of these changes before you are left in the cold.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/24/wrath-of-the-lich-king-update-reveals-new-dungeons-and-more-chao/">Wrath of the Lich King update loaded with frozen treats</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 24 May 2008 15:30:00 EST. <p style="text-align: left;">Wow. Or more accurately, <em><a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/" mce_href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/" target="_blank">World of Warcraft</a>. </em>It's all over the internet today in a big way. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/" mce_href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/" target="_blank">Blizzard</a> released a ridiculous amount of information about their next expansion, <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath/" mce_href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath/" target="_blank"><em>Wrath of the Lich King</em></a>, and some of the changes they've announced are pretty major. I thought I would use today's article to go over some of the most exciting announcements, discuss what makes them so interesting, and talk about what it means for the game (and for you). I'll be pointing out the links as I go along, but if you just want to go check out the articles, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/blizzard-unleashes-a-storm-of-lich-king-information/" mce_href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/blizzard-unleashes-a-storm-of-lich-king-information/" target="_blank">this post</a> will send you everywhere you want to go and <a href="http://www.worldofwar.net/articles/413359/wrath-presentation-all-the-facts-none-of-the-fluff" mce_href="http://www.worldofwar.net/articles/413359/wrath-presentation-all-the-facts-none-of-the-fluff" target="_blank">this post</a> has a nice synopsis of all the available info in one easy place.</p>
<p>Before I start digging in, I just wanted to mention that I would never, ever, want to compete with Blizzard as a game company. Those <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/player-vs-everything-those-poor-poor-designers/" mce_href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/player-vs-everything-those-poor-poor-designers/" target="_blank">poor guys</a> at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/funcom" mce_href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/funcom" target="_blank">Funcom</a>... The <em><a href="http://www.ageofconan.com/" mce_href="http://www.ageofconan.com/" target="_blank">Age of Conan</a> </em>release date was set for a month after Blizzard's big Sunwell patch -- it looked like they were in the clear, and they could ride people's boredom all the way to September and maybe even hold them. And then, Blizzard drops a bomb like this (<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/05/player-vs-everything-age-of-conan-closed-beta-impressions/" mce_href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/05/player-vs-everything-age-of-conan-closed-beta-impressions/" target="_blank">ten days before <em>AoC's </em>release</a>, which I'd bet my shirt was no coincidence). People will be talking about this stuff for months, it's going to be hard to get a word in edge-wise over the buzz, and the promise of a mystery patch that will let us spend our gold on "<a href="http://www.worldofwar.net/articles/413359/wrath-presentation-all-the-facts-none-of-the-fluff" mce_href="http://www.worldofwar.net/articles/413359/wrath-presentation-all-the-facts-none-of-the-fluff" target="_blank">cool new items</a>" will keep people happily grinding dailies for a while. That's got to sting. Anyway, without further ado, lets take a look at these announced features.</p><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/player-vs-everything-analyzing-the-wrath-of-the-lich-king-news/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Player vs. Everything: Analyzing the Wrath of the Lich King news explosion</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/player-vs-everything-analyzing-the-wrath-of-the-lich-king-news/">Player vs. Everything: Analyzing the Wrath of the Lich King news explosion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 09 May 2008 16:30:00 EST. We hope you'll join us, then, in our open-mouthed <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/04/20/new-wotlk-screenshots-leaked/">appreciation of these leaked screenshots</a> for the next addition to <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/World-of-Warcraft/">World of Warcraft</a></em>'s Azeroth. Our sister site WoW Insider obtained them via various clandestine internet meetings, and ran them past the same source that let us know <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/wows-wrath-of-the-lich-enters-alpha-testing/">the expansion was already in Alpha testing</a>. <br /><br />According to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Deep-Murloc/">Deep Murloc</a> many of the screenshots currently out there are faked, but the images hosted on WoW Insider are verified (by the source) to be legit. They're essentially identical to what the friends-and-family Alpha testers are experiencing right now. We're told that eventually the site will offer up some of the faked shots for comparison, so make sure to check back later this week!<br /><br />The real images show several different scenes from life around the <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/tag/Utgard-Keep/">Utgarde Keep</a> area, including what appears to be a killshot for a boss named <a href="http://www.wowwiki.com/Ingvar_the_Plunderer">Ingvar the Plunderer</a>. For your <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/04/11/what-we-know-about-death-knights/">first glimpse of Death Knights</a> in action, dead expansion bosses, and what appears to be a very angry Ram, <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/photos/wotlk-leaks/762478/">click through to the gallery</a>.<br />

For example, when <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a>'s <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/city-of-heroes">City of Heroes</a></em> introduced Flight, it was competing with Super Speed, Teleportation and Leaping. How could they build it out to where it was neither overpowered nor useless? Through a series of trial-and-error efforts -- and thankfully providing an additional 10% bump in <a href="http://www.pvponline.com/2004/06/04/fri-jun-04/">hover speed</a> in Issue 8 -- they loaded a <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/gameinfo/powers.html">power set</a> into the game that gave heroes a new way of seeing the city without unbalancing other transportation powers currently in place.<br /><br />As to verbs that may be more common throughout MMOs, we've all had the opportunity to "run" -- either into battle or away from almost certain peril -- and I doubt there's many here who haven't wished for the ability to "turn invisible" in order to <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/09/05/encrypted-text-how-not-to-be-seen/">stealth</a> through a difficult mission, but what about some of the more exotic verbs out there? Oh, sure, in most games the alts can backslap one another, gesture angrily, and dance, but these are powerless emotes: they don't actually impact the game play. Take your favorite MMO, though, and think about what game-impacting verb or verbs you'd like to see added. Perhaps it might help to take a look at the thought process currently pushing <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft">World of Warcraft</a>'s new <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/09/29/breakfast-topic-design-your-own-death-knight/">Death Knight</a> and ask yourself this: if you were a developer, what would you add to the build, and how would you balance it?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.eldergame.com/index.php">Elder Game</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/26/verbing-a-noun-introducing-new-powers/">Verbing a noun: introducing new powers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 26 Nov 2007 18:00:00 EST.
