With the <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/"><em>EVE Online</em></a> expansion looming just a few short months away, fans of the game have a lot to look forward to. If you count yourself in that group, you'll be happy to hear that <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com/">Crazy Kinux</a> has something to make the wait even better. How about some free <a href="http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/30_days_Concord_Pilot_License_Extension">PLEX</a> and an interview with a CCP developer?<br />
<br />
CK has arranged both of those for the lucky winner of his <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com/2010/04/tyrannis-planetary-interaction-contest.html">current contest</a>. In his contest post, he asks that you <em>"Write a blog post on <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&amp;bid=733">Tyrannis</a> and its Industrial consequences to EVE, wherever you see them," </em>which is a familiar request to those who have been following his blog for a long time. He ran a similar contest <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com/2009/08/write-yourself-to-ccp-dev-podcast.html">a while back</a> and got a great response, so he's doing it again. The five best entries will win a PLEX, which is a great prize in itself, but they'll also be entered in a random drawing for a podcast interview with one of the developers working on <em>Tyrannis</em>!<br />
<br />
The contest is currently underway and the deadline is April 10th. All the details can be found <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com/2010/04/tyrannis-planetary-interaction-contest.html">here</a>, so best of luck!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/05/win-some-plex-and-an-interview-with-ccp-in-new/">Win some PLEX and an interview with CCP in new EVE Online contest</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 05 Apr 2010 09:00:00 EST. As a recap: the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/ccp-games-announces-quantum-rise-expansion-for-eve-online/"><em>Quantum Rise</em> expansion</a> was announced, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/certificates-and-medals-coming-to-eve-online/">new features</a> are on the way, the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/11/new-eve-online-video-advances-backstory/ ">backstory was advanced</a> through a new video, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/ccp-games-kills-ghost-training-on-inactive-eve-accounts/">controversy and even outright rage ensued</a> over disabling ghost training, a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/quarterly-economic-newsletter-for-eve-online-released/">Quarterly Economic Newsletter</a> was released, and there have been <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/real-world-economic-impact-on-mmos-and-virtual-worlds/">concerns over the future of <em>EVE</em></a> given Iceland's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/ceo-of-ccp-games-addresses-eves-continuity-through-turbulent-ti/">economic woes. </a><br /><br />While some of these news items are mentioned in the latest <a href="http://www.eve-online.com/community/newsletters/vol022.html"><em>EVE Online</em> newsletter</a> (aside from the ghost training fiasco), <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games</a> has also given some attention to the <em>EVE</em> community itself, something Massively has been been taking note of as well. It seems our friend and <em>EVE</em> community puppetmaster David Perry <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com ">(aka CrazyKinux)</a> has just gotten the nod from <a href="http://www.ccpgames.com">CCP</a> for his latest effort.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/ccp-games-highlights-community-efforts-of-eve-bloggers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CCP Games highlights community efforts of EVE bloggers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/ccp-games-highlights-community-efforts-of-eve-bloggers/">CCP Games highlights community efforts of EVE bloggers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 17:30:00 EST. Fighting for your empire of choice? Of course. Complexes full of militia fighters hacking away away at each other? That is there too. A few bugs that result in the beloved <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/26/rogue-signal-where-can-concord-hear-you-scream/">police, Concord</a>, blasting you for fighting the good fight in high-sec? Well, it just would not be a war without Concord and a test without flaws! The good, the bad, and the ugly parts of factional warfare in the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> expansion <a href="http://www.eve-online.com/empyreanage/"><em>Empyrean Age</em></a> are at every pilot's fingertips. The details are conveyed in a blog, hosted on <a href="http://nuyan.wordpress.com/2008/05/20/experiences-of-empyrean-age-on-sisi/">Nuyan's Hangout</a>, that presents an in depth look at the concepts currently floating around the test server.<br /><br /><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/the-empyrean-age-is-born-in-fire/">Factional warfare</a> is not going to be a big ship destroys little ship game of domination. Newer players are encouraged to participate since some zones restrict ship class and eliminate the chance for a Titan to destroy your little frigate. In these zones, players attack and defend systems in an attempt to control outposts for a certain amount of time. This <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/pvp"></a><a href="http://www.eveonline.com/empyreanage/features.html">factional warfare feature</a> sounds similar to the timed capture methods <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> employs. Nuyan is quick to point out that the design does have a slight hint of tauren and orc, but that <em>EVE</em> maintains a unique flavor that separates it from the open PvP zones in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>. We remain hopeful that <em>EVE </em>will retain it's unique style and eagerly await this long awaited expansion to go live.<br /><br />[<a href="http://www.crazykinux.com/">via Crazy Kinux</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/the-empyrean-age-blasts-onto-singularity/">The Empyrean Age blasts onto Singularity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 28 May 2008 10:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Dock those ships and prepare for a truly extraordinary event! The Council of Stellar Management election in the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE</em></a> universe is fast approaching, with voting being held on the 5th of May for those players with active accounts. The call for candidates has already ended and candidates are hitting the campaign trail in an ongoing effort to win a seat on the council. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/giving-players-the-control-stick-in-eve-online/">elected representatives</a>, selected from the player base, will have a great deal of influence in the design and daily operation of the <em>EVE</em> universe.<br /></div>
</div>
<br /> In case you were mining asteroids and were unable to follow the events as they unfolded, a <a href="http://eve-csm.com/">CSM information website</a> devoted to helping you choose the right candidates has been created for your viewing pleasure. Players or curious onlookers can find links to candidates websites, manifestos, and some background information provided by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp">CCP</a> on the history of the CSM. The official documents linked by the site describe CCPs outlook on governing MMOs and their communities. The website provides a very interesting glimpse into a concept that will give players a unique opportunity to shape the world they enjoy.<br /><br />[<a href="http://www.crazykinux.com">via Crazy Kinux</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/website-helps-get-eve-players-to-the-polls/">Website helps get EVE players to the polls</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 09 Apr 2008 16:00:00 EST. The editing is pretty tight, and speaking as somebody with only a minimum of <em>EVE</em> experience, the scale is also pretty impressive. While we stumbled upon the trailer by the chance fact that <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com/2008/04/eve-movie-trailer-cva-amarr-empire.html">one of our favorite <em>EVE</em> bloggers</a> mentioned it in a blog post recently, we were impressed by the sheer <a href="http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=channel&amp;channelID=29045">volume and variety of videos</a> to be found one of the bigger <em>EVE</em> forums.<br /><br />Given the amount of talented movie makers in the <em>EVE</em> community, we're extremely excited about the future of <em>EVE</em> machinima. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/gdc08-eve-onlines-space-stations/">long-anticipated space station gameplay</a>, where players are allowed to actually occupy their humanoid avatars and engage in face to face interactions, should blow this community wide open. It'd allow for the creation of all sorts of epic stories and (forgive the Star Wars reference in a post about <em>EVE</em>) Mos Eisley cantina moments. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><span style="font-style: italic;"> EVE</span></a> is peculiar compared to many MMOs in that the only real attachment players have to their in-game <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/avatar">avatars</a> (at least until the <a href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/index.php?q=node/620">Ambulation feature</a> comes out, that is) are the simple character portraits that they choose when first rolling a new toon. As you might expect, most people grow rather attached to their portrait over those longs hours spent mining and ratting, and as logically follows, there's a pretty high crossover in the use of these portraits as forum avatars.<br /><br />So when we stumbled on <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com/2008/03/eve-avatars-get-your-eve-character.html">a recent blog post</a> highlighting the creation of enhanced, animated EVE avatars, we couldn't look away. Evidently, a player going by the name of Copter Pilot is <a href="http://www.eveavatars.com/">creating these bite-sized animated recreations</a>, complete with the player's choice of creepy emotes. All you need to do is give him your character name and email address and he'll send you along an animated avatar in four different sizes. You don't even have to pay him in cash -- he's charging 20 million isk for the service.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/24/eve-avatars-come-alive-for-a-price/">EVE Avatars come alive, for a price</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 24 Mar 2008 13:00:00 EST. All of the participants were supposed to be blogging the task of creating a character from scratch and raising as much money as they could, but save for a few day one and <a href="http://www.crazykinux.com/2007/12/from-rags-to-riches-challenge.html">day two blogs</a>, there's naught to be found.<br /><br />However, even though we don't know exactly who won, Wiseones has posted a very informative and interesting blog about <a href="http://evefromdayone.wordpress.com/2007/12/16/end/">how his character ended up</a> after the 14-day trial ended. The grand total: 8.5 million ISK. Pretty impressive! And while he did a lot of things (piracy, mining, trading, missions) it sounds like he got the biggest haul from going to war-- he ducked into a space battle, looted a couple of nice <a href="http://eve.wikia.com/wiki/Tech_2">T2</a> items from a wreckage, and got the heck out of Dodge. So if you want some quick cash in low sec, join up with an alliance, go to war, and scavenge from the shadows.<br /><br />Other tips? Do all the tutorial missions (duh-- you should have already done that), buy as little as you possibly can (which means looting everything from rats), and seriously, pick the bones of wartorn ships clean, even if you have to make a deal with an alliance to do it. Wiseones says a guide to newbie money-making is forthcoming to the forums (send us a link!), but there are some nice tips if you want to make money fast in the inky void of space.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/01/08/get-from-rags-to-riches-in-eve-online/">Get from Rags to Riches in EVE Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 08 Jan 2008 11:00:00 EST.
