MMORPG.com's got <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/404/feature/5702/NYCC-11-Panel-Recap.htm%20l/page/1">the details</a> on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/funcom">Funcom's</a> appearance at last weekend's New York City Comic Con. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ragnar-tornquist">Ragnar Tornquist</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/dag-scheve">Dag Scheve</a> were on hand to hype <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-secret-world"><em>The Secret World</em></a>, and the duo was the main attraction on a panel that fielded fan questions and showed off some new gameplay footage.<br />
<br />
Several of the questions from the audience related to <em>The Secret World's</em> progression mechanics, and Tornquist stated that despite the fact that the game has no levels, there will be plenty of activities for grind aficionados. The term horizontal progression was mentioned, as were various skills and gear (the latter of which serves as a gate between different bits of the game's content). Check out the rest of the recap, along with a video embed, at MMORPG.com.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/17/funcom-talks-the-secret-world-at-nycc/">Funcom talks The Secret World at NYCC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 17 Oct 2011 12:00:00 EST. Mark October 13th through the 16th on your calendars, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> faithful, especially if you'll be anywhere in the vicinity of New York City.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware">BioWare's</a> Hutt-sized Star Wars MMO will be hogging the spotlight at this year's New York Comic Con, and you'll have a couple of opportunities to get some hands-on time with the highly anticipated sci-fi title. The Alderaan and Huttball warzones will be playable at <em>SWTOR's</em> booth, while a few of the developers will be featured on three separate panels over the course of the event.<br />
<br />
If you like a little alcohol with your Star Wars, you'll also want to make note of a dev-hosted meet-and-greet at District 36 on Wednesday, October 12th. All the details are available at the official site, so what are you waiting for?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/07/the-old-republic-playable-at-new-york-comic-con/">The Old Republic playable at New York Comic Con</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 07 Oct 2011 19:30:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Trion-Worlds/">Trion Worlds</a> has <em>three</em> gaming worlds up its sleeve right now, and it aims to talk about all of them at this year's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/New-York-Comic-Con/">New York Comic Con</a>. In fact, the company has announced that several of its developers will participate in a panel "to discuss the future of [its] online gaming portfolio."<br />
<br />
<em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/RIFT/">RIFT</a></em> junkies can look forward to a chat with Design Producer Hal Hanlin and Lore Lead Morgan Lockhart about the studio's upcoming plans for the fantasy MMO, while MMORTS fans will get their PvE and PvP on with Senior Producer Chris Lena from <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/End-of-Nations/">End of Nations</a></em>. And attendees looking for their shooter fix won't be left out: Rob Hill, Senior Producer for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Defiance/">Defiance</a></em>, will be on hand to cover the MMOFPS and its integration with the Syfy show.<br />
<br />
The panel takes places on Friday, October 14th, from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. EDT in room 1A24. Tickets for the con are still available on the <a href="http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/">official NYCC website</a>.<br />

<em>Captain's Log, Stardate 65075.4...</em><br />
<br />
Hello, computer (and players)! Ahhh, the good 'ol developers! You follow them on twitter, you read every one of their forum posts, and you even stalk them in-game. But you know what? Developers are just like us, a fellow human being, right? Wrong! Developers are the key to the future, the hands that create our dreams, the molders that shape our gameplay. Okay, okay -- I'm going a bit overboard, but you have to admit, they are pretty dang cool!<br />
<br />
Luckily for us <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online/" target="_blank"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> players, the devs that are working on the game, as well as all of the other projects in development at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cryptic" target="_blank">Cryptic</a>, are very transparent. More often that not, they let us know what they are working on and look to the community to see what we think about particular ideas -- we truly get to help influence what makes it into the game. Aside from posting in the forums, many of them also participate with the community by guest starring on podcasts and meeting up with players when they can.<br />
<br />
As I broke <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/star-trek-onlines-dine-with-the-devs-event-details/" target="_blank">the news</a> to you all last week, I was privileged to host a Dine with the Devs event that coincided with a visit of some of the <em>STO</em> devs to this year's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/comic-con-2011/" target="_blank">San Diego Comic-Con</a>. While this was not associated with Massively, I figured all of you would like to know what happened and what was said. So, without further ado, it's time to recap the event and fill you all in on the super-secret meeting minutes!<br />
<br />

Those of you worried about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>The Old Republic's</em></a> longevity (all three of you) can rest easy according to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware">BioWare</a>. Game director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/james-ohlen">James Ohlen</a> told Comic-Con attendees that the company hopes the game will stand the test of time.<br />
<br />
"<em>And our goal -- this being an online game that we're hoping is going to last for decades -- we're going to be, obviously, adding more to the galaxy map as the game progresses</em>," he said. Ohlen went on to say that BioWare plans to add lots of content over the game's lifespan. "<em>In 2025, we'll hopefully have 500 worlds</em>," he remarked.<br />

With <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/" target="_blank">San Diego Comic-Con</a> right around the corner, attendees are making their final plans on what events and attractions they are going to visit in the historic city by the bay. While there is always a decent turn out of Star Trek fans, many <em><a href="http://startrekonline.com/" target="_blank">Star Trek Online</a></em> players have always hoped for a stronger presence from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cryptic" target="_blank">Cryptic</a>. Whether it be a panel interview, a booth, or even just a casual meet-up, Captains want to connect with their developers. Well, dreams are about to come true!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.thequantumcafe.com/priorityone" target="_blank">Priority One</a>, the <a href="http://www.massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online" target="_blank"><em>STO</em></a> podcast for which I am Executive Producer, will be hosting the first ever <a href="http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?p=3646348#post3646348" target="_blank">Dine with the Devs</a> event this Friday evening, July 22nd. While not affiliated with Massively, this casual meet-up will take place off-site at a local restaurant in the San Diego area. As we dine on the patio, the devs in attendance will be answering players' questions about the game and explaining their roles on the project. It is important to note that each attendees' expenses are their own responsibility. Several weeks ago we told you about <a href="http://bioware.com">BioWare's</a> plans to stage a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/bioware-setting-up-public-tor-demo-outside-san-diego-comic-con">public demo</a> of its <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>Star Wars The Old Republic</em></a> MMORPG across the street from this month's <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">San Diego Comic Con</a>. Today, <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/loadNews/21181">MMORPG.com</a> has picked up on the news from the official forums, pointing out that the demos will feature the game's first two flashpoints.<br />
<br />
Interested players will get to work their way through the Black Talon and Esseles instances beginning Thursday, July 21st at 7:00 p.m. Pacific and running through Saturday, July 23rd. The sessions will last approximately one hour and are <strike>open to the general public</strike>. You'll want to get there early, though, as spots are limited and interest in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware">BioWare's</a> sci-fi opus is ramping up in anticipation of a possible 2011 release.<br />
<br />
<strong>[Update: Apparently, this isn't open to the public. There's <a href="http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=374342">a lottery to get in</a>. Good luck with that!]</strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/12/swtor-flashpoints-playable-at-comic-con/">SWTOR flashpoints playable at Comic-Con [Updated]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 12 Jul 2011 14:00:00 EST. If you're planning to attend the <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/comic-con">San Diego Comic-Con</a> next month, and if you happen to be a fan of <a href="http://www.guildwars.com"><em>Guild Wars</em></a> or <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a>, then <a href="http://us.ncsoft.com/en/">NCsoft</a> wants you to swing by its booth while you're in the neighborhood. Attendees will be able "<em>to meet artists and developers from </em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/city-of-heroes-freedom">City of Heroes Freedom</a><em> and </em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/guild-wars-2">Guild Wars 2</a><em>.</em>" <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a> will be giving the latest news on <em>City of Heroes</em>' <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/21/a-new-experience-is-launching-for-city-of-heroes-freedom/">recently announced</a> free-to-play transition as well as giving fans the opportunity to take <em>Guild Wars 2</em>'s <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/19/guild-wars-2s-explosive-seventh-class-the-engineer/">Engineer class</a> for a spin. In addition to all of that, <em>City of Heroes'</em> <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/desdemona">Desdemona</a> will be making appearances at the booth while <em>City of Heroes</em> comic artist <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/david-nakayama">David "Noble Savage" Nakayama </a>whips up free illustrations of selected <em>CoH</em> players' characters. The artists of <em>Guild Wars 2</em> will also be present to sign limited-edition postcard art books.<br />
	<br />
	But of course the party doesn't stop at the convention; NCsoft's Fan Meet &amp; Greet takes place Friday the 22nd. Fans will have to check the <a href="http://us.ncsoft.com/en/events/comic-con-2011.html#schedule">NCsoft schedule</a> for details on how to acquire tickets as it is a ticketed event, but those fortunate enough to attend will have the privilege of rubbing elbows with <em>CoH</em> and <em>GW2</em> developers and artists. And of course, fans will be afforded the opportunity to go hands-on with <em>City of Heroes Freedom</em> and <em>Guild Wars 2</em>. For more information, check out <a href="http://us.ncsoft.com/en/events/comic-con-2011.html">the official announcement</a> and <a href="http://us.ncsoft.com/en/events/comic-con-2011.html#schedule">NCsoft's Comic-Con schedule</a>.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/24/ncsoft-announces-san-diego-comic-con-events-and-schedule/">NCsoft announces San Diego Comic-Con events and schedule</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 24 Jun 2011 10:00:00 EST. <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> community coordinator <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/david-bass">David Bass</a> unleashed a pleasant surprise on unsuspecting <a href="http://bioware.com">BioWare</a> fans earlier today. In a post on the official <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>TOR</em></a> forums, Bass told of a <a href="http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=345810&amp;page=9">playable demo</a> at the upcoming <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">San Diego Comic-Con</a>.<br />
<br />
Big deal, I don't have a Comic-Con badge, we hear a few of you saying. Well, take heart. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bioware">BioWare</a> also <a href="http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/324/index/7691264">recently announced</a> that <em>Mass Effect 3</em> (as well as downloadable content from <em>Dragon Age II</em>) would be playable at a hotel across the street from the con, and Bass says that <em>The Old Republic</em> will be there as well.<br />
<br />
"<em>Anyone (yes even you!) can come to the Hilton and wait in line to play any of the BioWare games</em>," Bass wrote. You'd better get there early, though, and plan on packing your patience as well as a slew of your favorite portable Star Wars games to pass the time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/bioware-setting-up-public-tor-demo-outside-san-diego-comic-con/">BioWare setting up public TOR demo outside San Diego Comic-Con</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 22 Jun 2011 15:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">Comic-Con</a> may be over, but the news keeps rolling in. The <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/video/sdcc-10-guild-wars-2/702463">newest video over at GameTrailers</a> is of a chat with <a href="http://www.arena.net">ArenaNet</a>'s Design Director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/james-phinney">James Phinney</a>.<br />
<br />
James gave a brief rundown of what we know about <a href="http://www.guildwars2.com"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a> so far, explaining the combat roles of the classes we know: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/28/down-you-go-arenanet-unveils-the-guild-wars-2-elementalist-and/">elementalist</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/09/arenanet-reveals-traits-and-warrior-class-for-guild-wars-2/">warrior</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/14/you-can-have-a-shark-as-a-pet-arenanet-unveils-the-guild-wars-2/">ranger</a>. He also covered the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/12/guild-wars-2-lead-designer-reveals-new-information-about-questin/">dynamic event system</a> that we've <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/19/guild-wars-2-lead-content-designer-expands-on-dynamic-events-sys/">heard</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/05/20/guild-wars-2-lead-designer-answers-more-questions-about-dynamic/">so much about</a>, as well as the reasoning behind it.<br />

Finally, he addressed the burning question of "When?" Unfortunately, it looks like we'll have to wait for that coveted date a bit longer: "<em>When it's ready.</em>"<br />
<br />
For now, you can look after the jump to see the video for yourself.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/03/james-phinney-discusses-guild-wars-2-classes-events-and-combat/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>James Phinney discusses Guild Wars 2 classes, events, and combat at Comic-Con</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/03/james-phinney-discusses-guild-wars-2-classes-events-and-combat/">James Phinney discusses Guild Wars 2 classes, events, and combat at Comic-Con</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 03 Aug 2010 12:00:00 EST. It must be said that <a href="http://www.nexon.net/">Nexon</a> is having a good year. A very, very good year indeed.<br />
<br />
As free-to-play titles are on the rise in the MMORPG genre, Nexon is reaping the benefits of this trend as more people flock to its titles like <a href="http://mabinogi.nexon.net/"><em>Mabinogi</em></a>. As a result, the company has seen a 26% jump in revenue for the second quarter this year, and its profits are trending up compared to the same time last year.<br />
<br />
Even for F2P MMOs, Nexon's games boast impressive numbers: <a href="http://maplestory.nexon.net/"><em>MapleStory</em></a> has crossed the seven million registered user line, <a href="http://combatarms.nexon.net/"><em>Combat Arms</em></a> four million and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/mabinogi/"><em>Mabinogi</em></a> one million. <em> "Our player base and revenues continue to expand, which tells us that gamers find that our free-to-play business model fits their play needs,"</em> said Nexon America CEO Daniel Kim.<br />
<br />
Nexon is also looking forward to releasing <a href="http://vindictus.nexon.net/"><em>Vindictus</em></a>, a promising title that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/01/sdcc-2010-massively-interview-with-vindictus-producer-chris-gys/">we most recently previewed</a> at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sdcc-2010/">San Diego Comic-Con</a> last month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/03/nexon-grows-as-maplestory-hits-7-million-registered-users/">Nexon grows as MapleStory hits 7 million registered users</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 03 Aug 2010 09:00:00 EST. "<em>Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future</em>," were Yoda's words from The Empire Strikes Back, but contrary to the Jedi Master's belief, most of the time there are clues to what our future holds. Like the smell right before a rain storm, or little ticks of involuntary action that give away when someone is bluffing in poker, or that face your mother used to give you which said you were in trouble, clues to what the future holds are everywhere. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> is no exception. Clues to what the game holds are hidden all over its website.<br />
<br />
Alyssa Gobelle is the web designer for <em>SWTOR</em>. She has done a beautiful job of constructing a site that is entertaining as well as interesting to look at. Although the busy lettering, Aurebesh, entices the eyes, it also gives away secrets to the game. In April, Gobelle was <a href="http://www.holonetproject.net/2010/04/holonet-project-alyssa-gobelle.html">interviewed by the Holonet Project</a> fan site, where she revealed that the messages are totally intentional: "<em>When they first brought me on, our first major task was to design the HoloNet. We wanted the HoloNet's voice to be as much 'within the lore of the game' as possible so we planned to add some generic Aurebesh to start. But we also wanted to add some hidden teases and notes for you guys to devour and ponder upon and play with. Give some more fuel to the speculation festivities.</em>"<br />
<br />
Continue after the break to find out what some of these "hidden teases" are. Perhaps you can help me figure out what the rest of them mean.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/02/hyperspace-beacon-swtors-hidden-messages/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyperspace Beacon: SWTOR's hidden messages</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/02/hyperspace-beacon-swtors-hidden-messages/">Hyperspace Beacon: SWTOR's hidden messages</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 02 Aug 2010 13:00:00 EST. Today we have more from the question-and-answer portion of the <a href="http://www.dcuniverseonline.com/"><em>DC Universe Online</em></a> panel at the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sdcc-2010/">San Diego Comic-Con</a> last week. (<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/27/sdcc-2010-up-up-and-away-at-the-dcuo-panel/">Part one</a> of the panel was posted earlier this week.) Panelists included Creative Director Jens Andersen, Game Director Chris Cao, legendary comic book writer Marv Wolfman, Jim Lee, and the voice of the Joker, Mark Hamill.<br />
<br />
<strong>Will there be a mechanic for switching from hero to villain or vice versa?<br />
</strong><br />
No. You make the choice of hero or villain at character creation, and it can't be changed after that. This is so it is clear to other players in PvP who is on what team.<br />
<br />
<strong>Will current storylines in the DC comic universe affect the MMO?<br />
</strong><br />
The game will launch "pristine"; that is, the DC Universe in the game will be the popular, well-known one. Wonder Woman will be in her classic costume; Bruce Wayne will be Batman; etc. From there, storylines from the comics may start altering the MMO universe, but at least from the get-go, the game will start with a clean slate. <br />
<br />
<em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online/">DCUO</a></em> will be getting its own bi-weekly comic as well.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/01/sdcc-2010-dcuo-panel-part-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SDCC 2010: Part two of our DCUO panel report</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/01/sdcc-2010-dcuo-panel-part-2/">SDCC 2010: Part two of our DCUO panel report</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 01 Aug 2010 16:00:00 EST. If you're looking for a superhero MMO, you have a lot of options these days, which is part of the reason that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Gazillion-Entertainment/">Gazillion Entertainment</a> has gone in a very different direction with <a href="http://www.shsonline.com/"><em>Super Hero Squad Online</em></a>. Rather than being a more adult-oriented game, it features colorful characters in a cartoonish setting, with an emphasis on family playability. Some players are going to immediately turn up their noses and sneer at the idea, of course, but after viewing the latest trailer, it sure does look like fun.<br />
<br />
The trailer, straight from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/SDCC-2010/">SDCC 2010</a>, features a variety of standbys within the Marvel universe that most viewers will have no problem recognizing. It's evident from the footage that the game is placing a high emphasis on retaining the feel of each signature hero's skills and powers, even if the stylized graphics might throw some players for a bit of a loop. Take a look at the trailer just past the cut, and keep your eyes peeled for more information on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/super-hero-squad-online/"><em>Super Hero Squad Online</em></a> as we approach the release date in 2011.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/27/sdcc-2010-a-new-super-hero-squad-online-trailer-in-the-mighty-m/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SDCC 2010: A new Super Hero Squad Online trailer in the Mighty Marvel tradition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/27/sdcc-2010-a-new-super-hero-squad-online-trailer-in-the-mighty-m/">SDCC 2010: A new Super Hero Squad Online trailer in the Mighty Marvel tradition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 27 Jul 2010 16:00:00 EST. If looks were everything, then <a href="http://www.tera-online.com/"><em>TERA</em></a> would certainly place as a finalist in the Miss Upcoming MMO Universe pageant. Yet as visually sumptuous as it may be, we're more interested in its personality. Can the brains match the beauty? So far, it looks promising. We've been locked on to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/TERA/"><em>TERA's</em></a> unique brand of fantasy play <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/e3-2010-massivelys-hands-on-with-tera/">since this year's E3</a> (and before), and as such, it's great to check back in with the title, take it out for a quiet romantic dinner, and see how it's shaping up.<br />

We caught up with En Masse Entertainment at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con and spent a half hour putting the game through its paces and chatting up with <em>TERA's</em> devs. While <em>TERA's</em> dev team is working with a more recent build of the game, our hands-on demo was the same build as the one we saw at E3. Even so, it's always worth spending a few more minutes with an upcoming MMO to see what new facts and impressions can be gleaned. Hit the jump to read more about classes, races and an idea about not getting hit that's so crazy, <em>it just might work!</em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/26/sdcc-2010-tera-by-the-numbers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SDCC 2010: TERA by the numbers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/26/sdcc-2010-tera-by-the-numbers/">SDCC 2010: TERA by the numbers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 26 Jul 2010 17:00:00 EST. We talked quite a bit about the ability to play as Batman via a preorder bonus, and one of the questions we asked was "<em>Will there be more opportunities in the future to play as familiar DC Universe villains or heroes?</em>"<br />
<br />
John replied that they were thinking about it, but it sounds like the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online"><em>DCUO</em></a> team has been doing a lot more than just thinking about it. We caught up with <em>DCUO</em> Studio Art Director Mike Daubert at <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">Comic-Con</a> this weekend, and he had some pretty exciting news for us.<br />

The hype for <a href="http://www.guildwars2.com"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a> seems to get bigger every week, so it was a natural choice for the Massively staff at Comic-Con to seek out some time with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a> designer and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ghosts-of-ascalon">Ghosts of Ascalon</a> author <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jeff-grubb">Jeff Grubb</a>.<br />
<br />
If you're relatively new to the <a href="http://www.guildwars.com"><em>Guild Wars</em></a> world, Jeff provides a nicely detailed overview of what's been happening with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars"><em>Guild Wars</em></a>, <em>Guild Wars 2</em>, and the first tie-in novel. If you're a firmly established citizen of Tyria, you'll enjoy the look back, and you'll certainly enjoy the hints he drops here and there for upcoming events and reveals.<br />

San Diego has been the place to be for the past few days, with developers bringing out all the latest and greatest to show off at <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">Comic-Con 2010</a>. We at Massively have been pretty busy, in part with <a href="http://na.aiononline.com/"><em>Aion</em></a>'s web producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/lani-blazier">Lani Blazier</a>. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/aion"><em>Aion</em></a>'s free expansion <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/assault-on-balaurea">Assault on Balaurea</a> is just over a month away, so Lani had plenty to talk about. She gave us a look at what we can expect with 2.0, and spent a bit of time answering our questions afterward. While at <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">Comic-Con</a>, the fan site <a href="http://moseisleyradio.com">Mos Eisley Radio</a> <a href="http://twitter.com/moseisleyradio/status/19365631503">tweeted a rumor</a> that there will be space combat in <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>SWTOR</em></a>. Space combat has been strongly suspected since the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/bioware-discuss-swtor-player-ships-group-gameplay-and-pvp-at-e3/">announcement of player ships at E3</a>, but there was nothing to confirm our suspicions. According to the folks at Mos Eisley Radio, James Ohlen said that each ship will be customizable, and, of course, that the player will be able to use this ship in space combat.<br />
<br />
Not moments later, this rumor was <a href="http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=173964">completely confirmed</a> by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>SWTOR</em></a>'s community manager, Sean Dahlberg, on the official forum. He confesses in his announcement, "<em>While we didn't quite make the numbers [of Facebook and Twitter followers], we definitely saw how excited the community is about this and how everyone came together. After all of that, there's no way we could hold back with our special reveal at Comic-Con!</em>" So it seems the devs did not <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/23/cats-invade-star-wars-the-old-republic-in-this-weeks-fan-frida/">punish the fans</a> for not reaching the social media goal after all. He reveals that further details will be available in the October edition of <a href="http://www.pcgamer.com/category/magazine/">PC Gamer</a>.<br />
<br />

If you didn't make it to this year's <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">Comic-Con</a>, you're missing out on a brick-ton of new information on the forthcoming <a href="http://universe.lego.com/en-us/splash/default.aspx"><em>LEGO Universe</em></a> MMORPG. Luckily <a href="http://www.mmocrunch.com/2010/07/23/lego-universe-hits-comic-con-with-new-videos/">MMOCrunch</a> has you covered in a piece that mentions the game's four playable factions (Assembly, Sentinels, Paradox, and Venture League). Each faction is built to cater to a different type of player, and though you're probably smart enough to figure them out on your own (you played with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/lego-universe"><em>LEGO</em></a> bricks after all), they correspond to builders, warriors, ninjas, and explorers.<br />
<br />
While it's not quite in line with the famous achiever, explorer, socializer, and killer metric made famous by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartle_Test">Bartle</a>, it's nice to see the <em>LEGO</em> team designing the title with a wide audience in mind. Also debuting at Comic-Con this week are three new videos featuring the factions, Pet Cove and taming footage, and a piece highlighting various <em>LEGO Universe</em> development partners.<br />
<br />
Check them out after the cut or at MMOCrunch.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/23/lego-universe-unleashes-comic-con-videos/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LEGO Universe unleashes Comic-Con videos</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/23/lego-universe-unleashes-comic-con-videos/">LEGO Universe unleashes Comic-Con videos</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 23 Jul 2010 12:00:00 EST. Yesterday brought the news that <a href="http://www.heroup.com/"><em>Super Hero Squad Online</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/20/marvel-super-hero-squad-online-playable-at-comic-con/">will be playable at Comic-Con this week</a>, but what if you can't attend, or simply can't wait to get a good look at the game?<br />
<br />
Well, the fine folks at <a href="http://www.amazingsociety.com/">The Amazing Society</a> have you covered with their new walkthrough video of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/super-hero-squad-online"><em>SHSO</em></a>, which takes a look at character creation, character progression, and some of the more lighthearted aspects of <em>Super Hero Squad Online</em>.<br />
<br />
Characters will play in the familiar <a href="http://marvel.com/">Marvel</a> world; if you want to have a dance party on top of the Daily Bugle or fly around Oscorp, you can. And speaking of dancing, the character emotes are something that the team obviously had a lot of fun creating. From dances to "snow angels" in the concrete, each character has his or her own unique emotes to enjoy.<br />
<br />
Finally, the game is all about accessibility. You're a superhero, and the developers want you to feel like one from character creation on. There will be character progression, but you'll have some powers to reckon with right away.<br />
<br />
Check out the video after the jump for the full tour!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/21/super-hero-squad-online-video-highlights-fun-and-accessibility/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Super Hero Squad Online video highlights fun and accessibility</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/21/super-hero-squad-online-video-highlights-fun-and-accessibility/">Super Hero Squad Online video highlights fun and accessibility</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 21 Jul 2010 16:30:00 EST. If you're attending <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">Comic-Con</a> later this week, make sure you leave some time in your schedule to visit the <a href="http://marvel.com/">Marvel Entertainment</a> booth.<br />
<br />
Marvel and <a href="http://www.gazillion.com/">Gazillion Entertainment</a> will be fully unveiling <a href="http://www.heroup.com/"><em>Super Hero Squad Online</em></a> for the first time, allowing attendees to play the game. Super heroes, combat missions, and social spaces will be available for play, and the game's headquarters system will be revealed as well. Players can customize their headquarters based on the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helicarrier">S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier</a>, adding trophy collections to dress it up even more.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.amazingsociety.com/">Amazing Society</a> Vice President and Studio Manager Jason Robar thinks attendees will like what they see:<em> "Combining hundreds of items, realistic physics and the unique personalities of the Super Hero Squad members makes an unforgettable experience. We're looking forward to sharing it with all Comic-Con attendees."</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/20/marvel-super-hero-squad-online-playable-at-comic-con/">Marvel Super Hero Squad Online playable at Comic-Con</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 20 Jul 2010 19:00:00 EST. They'll be going behind the scenes of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online"><em>DCUO</em></a>, discussing the backstory and giving fans a first look at the game's intro cinematic. Those attending the panel will receive a <em>DCUO</em> VIP beta key.<br />
<br />
Saturday evening there is a fan event for attendees to meet Jim Lee and Marv Wolfman, have another chance at a <em>DCUO</em> beta key, and participate in a Q &amp; A with the development team.<br />
<br />
Finally, the SOE block party is a free event on Saturday that welcomes fans into the SOE studios for music, food, tours, previews, prizes, and kids events. Shuttle buses will provide transportation to Comic-Con as part of the event. <br />

While dates have been thrown left and right for the upcoming expansion, <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> players will be happy to know that the much-awaited expansion, <em><a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/goingrogue">Going Rogue</a>,</em> will officially release on August 17th, 2010. That leaves a little under two months until all of the promised features, including two more powersets, a new starting experience, the ability to switch sides, and the start of the new Incarnate system. Although it's a bit later than the previously-rumored date of July, players can still look forward to the fact that it's not so very far in the future.<br />
<br />
Can't wait that long? If you're going to the inimitable <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/cci/">San Diego Comic Con</a> this year, you're in luck, as the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/City-of-Heroes/">City of Heroes</a></em> team will be granting lucky players a hands-on experience for the expansion. Not only that, but they'll be hosting a panel and the equally inimitable <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/David-Nakayama/">David Nakayama</a> will be sketching select heroes and villains. <div align="left">One of the last things coming out of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sdcc-09">Comic Con '09</a> is some of the tasty new artwork and the brand new trailer we've gotten from the <a href="http://dungeonfighter.nexon.net/"><em>Dungeon Fighter Online</em></a> team during our visit to their booth at the convention. The art is done in complete comic book style, setting up a bit more of the personalities behind <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/e3-2009-dungeon-fighter-online-impressions/">the main five characters</a> -- gunner, fighter, mage, priest, and slayer.<br /><br />We've also received word that this week will mark the start of the closed technical beta for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/dungeon-fighter-online"><em>DFO</em></a>. Server load, network tests, and things of that sort will be the focus of this initial beta. Later will be another closed beta phase which will focus on game balancing and design, as well as player feedback.<br /><br />Also, Neople, the original developers of <em>Dungeon Fighter Online</em>, will be on hand to aid Nexon with the localization of the game to North American audiences. This will allow the game to come out to our shores just like the developers intended for it to be played.<br /><br />Interested in seeing our new trailer for the game? When you think about it, comic conventions are as big for superhero games as other <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2009">events like E3</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax">PAX</a>. Massively was on the ground at SDCC this year and among the games we took a look at was, not surprisingly, <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a>. <br /><br />We caught up with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/city-of-heroes"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> game designers <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/joe-morrissey">Joe Morrissey</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/matt-miller">Matt "Positron" Miller</a> who shared with us a bit about how things have changed in the game in recent months, and gave us some info about the content and features on the way in <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/game_updates/issue_16/issue_16_overview.html"><em>Issue 16: Power Spectrum</em></a>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/sdcc09-city-of-heroes/">SDCC09: City of Heroes</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/sdcc09-city-of-heroes/#2163315"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/07/img_5196_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/sdcc09-city-of-heroes/#2163287"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/07/img_5193_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/sdcc09-city-of-heroes/#2163314"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/07/img_5197_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/sdcc09-city-of-heroes/#2163304"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/07/img_5195_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/sdcc09-city-of-heroes/#2163316"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/07/img_5198_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/26/sdcc-09-city-of-heroes-devs-on-the-future-of-player-created-con/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SDCC 09: City of Heroes devs on the future of player-created content</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/26/sdcc-09-city-of-heroes-devs-on-the-future-of-player-created-con/">SDCC 09: City of Heroes devs on the future of player-created content</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 26 Jul 2009 16:00:00 EST. Our very own Editor in Chief, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/bloggers/elizabeth-harper/">Elizabeth Harper</a> attended <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">San Diego Comic Con</a> this week and had <a href="http://massively.com/tag/sdcc-09">a number of interesting interviews</a>. One in particular was with the NC West <a href="http://aiononline.com"><em>Aion</em></a> community team. Many things were covered, some of which you probably already know. Here's the stuff you may not have been aware of.<br /><br /><a href="http://massively.com/category/aion"><em>Aion</em></a> will be launching with a maximum level of 50 -- and there was a bit of vocal inflection on the word "launching." Does this mean <a href="http://ncsoft.com">NCsoft</a> plans on increasing the level cap at some point in the future? Speaking of launching, the North American and European community feedback has been extremely positive about <em>Aion</em> launching at <a href="http://www.aionsource.com/forum/news-announcements/20119-ncsoft-reveals-version-western-aion-will-launching.html">version 1.5</a> -- the same version Korea is currently at.<br /><br />As for Korea, they may be leading the development of <em>Aion</em>, but NA/EU feedback will affect the game's direction. NCsoft feels it is important for players all over the world to enjoy <em>Aion</em>. One example of western influence on the game is that it will be launching with many more instances than originally intended because apparently we're big fans of dungeons in this neck of the woods.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/24/sdcc-09-aion-demo-and-interview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SDCC 09: Aion demo and interview</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/24/sdcc-09-aion-demo-and-interview/">SDCC 09: Aion demo and interview</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 24 Jul 2009 17:00:00 EST. The latest info about <a href="http://dcuo.station.sony.com/"><em>DC Universe Online</em></a> comes from a <a href="http://www.wired.com/gamelife/">Wired</a> article by <a href="http://www.deepmediaonline.com/">Frank Rose</a> which focuses on S.T.A.R. Labs, the futuristic glass and steel location familiar to anyone who grew up reading DC comic books or watched the Superman animated TV series. <br /><br />S.T.A.R. Labs, short for <a href="http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/S.T.A.R._Labs">Scientific and Technical Advanced Research Laboratories</a>, will be a hub of storyline activity in the MMO. It's fitting, as this is a place where great scientific advances are made, but also a place where things can go horribly wrong. This means it's perfect neutral ground to be incorporated into <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/dc-universe-online"><em>DC Universe Online</em></a>, and the location will tie in with the respective storylines of the game's heroes and villains. <br /><em></em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/dc-universe-online-creators-talk-about-s-t-a-r-labs-and-game-st/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DC Universe Online creators talk about S.T.A.R. That's not going to be the situation with <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">Comic-Con International</a> which is happening this week in San Diego. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online"><em>DC Universe Online</em></a> team will be on hand and will hopefully reveal more about the game. <br /><br />While you won't get to play as Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman, you will begin the game as a hero who fights alongside such comic book icons. In fact, once you roll a character you'll choose a specialty from among super powers, tech powers, or magic powers. That choice will determine the storyline you begin with, according to info revealed in a <a href="http://www.variety.com">Variety</a> article. Sony Online Entertainment gave Chris Morris from Variety's '<a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/">The Cut Scene</a>' an exclusive on how players will begin the game.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/22/an-early-peek-at-the-dc-universe-online-storyline/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>An early peek at the DC Universe Online storyline</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/22/an-early-peek-at-the-dc-universe-online-storyline/">An early peek at the DC Universe Online storyline</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 22 Jul 2009 17:30:00 EST. <a href="http://dcuo.station.sony.com/"><em>DC Universe Online</em></a> and SOE want to know <a href="http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&amp;friendId=170495422&amp;blogId=500665186">who you would choose as your <em>DCUO </em>"BFF"</a>. BFF in this particular case can refer to either Best Friend Forever <em>or</em> Best Foe Forever, so there's room for those characters you love to hate too: <em>The DCUO BFF Promotion lets eligible participants submit a video of up to 30 seconds to explain why they would like to virtually meet, fight and become BFFs with their chosen character in-game.</em> There's a short movie on the front page of the <a href="http://dcuo.station.sony.com/"><em>DCUO</em> official site</a> encouraging folks to get into character for their entries, though it also warns that tight spandex might be taking things a step too far. Our take? If you can pull it off, go for it!<br /><br />Entries can be made <a href="http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&amp;friendId=170495422&amp;blogId=500665186">through MySpace</a>, or in person at the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/dc-universe-teases-their-comic-con-exclusive-poster/">SOE booth at San Diego Comic-Con</a>, with judging duty to be performed by the <em>DCUO</em> MySpace Friends. The two winners will score a "Lex Luthor in Power Armor" poster, signed by the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online"><em>DCUO</em> </a>dev team and Jim Lee. If this news has you getting ready to dust off your favorite superhero outfit and enter, make sure the submission is in before the competition closes on the 15th of August at 1:59AM PT.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/18/dcuos-bff-competition-is-underway/">DCUO's BFF competition is underway</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 18 Jul 2009 18:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Nexon/">Nexon</a> is taking <em><a href="http://dungeonfighter.nexon.net/">Dungeon Fighter Online</a></em> to <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">Comic-Con</a> next week with a preview of the game, plus contests and -- surprise -- girls dressed in game-related costumes. We <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/e3-2009-dungeon-fighter-online-impressions/">had a pleasant experience with the game</a> at E3, so if you're attending and wondering whether or not you should go, we'd recommend stopping by to play a little.<br /><br />Oh yeah, those girls dressed in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Dungeon-Fighter-Online/">Dungeon Fighter Online</a></em> costumes? They'll be handing out discs with five bucks of Nexon cash. Additionally, Nexon will be making daily presentations at 1pm <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/13/koreas-dungeon-fighter-online-sets-sights-on-the-west/">where fans can learn more</a> about <em>DFO</em> and it's arcade-y, hacking, slashing and looting ways. So drop on by, grab some loot (we heard game posters will be at the booth) and enjoy yourselves. We'll just be sitting here letting our envy slowly overtake us until we destroy an inanimate object in a fit of jealousy.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2009-dungeon-fighter-online/">E3 2009: Dungeon Fighter Online</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2009-dungeon-fighter-online/#2058131"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/dfo4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2009-dungeon-fighter-online/#2058130"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/dfo19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2009-dungeon-fighter-online/#2058129"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/dfo11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2009-dungeon-fighter-online/#2058128"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/dfo8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/e3-2009-dungeon-fighter-online/#2058127"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/06/dfo7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/16/dungeon-fighter-online-heading-to-land-of-comics-and-cosplay-nex/">Dungeon Fighter Online heading to land of comics and cosplay next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 16 Jul 2009 20:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Who does this lovely face belong to? That's for you to decide as <em><a href="http://dcuo.station.sony.com/">DC Universe Online</a></em> teases their exclusive <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">San Diego Comic-Con</a> poster on their Myspace blog.<br /><br />The full poster, which will be given out to anyone who visits the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online"><em>DCUO</em></a> booth at Comic-Con, hasn't been revealed just yet. However, according to <a href="http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&amp;friendId=170495422&amp;blogId=499254146">bad puns placed on official blogs</a>, we will be "clawing" to get our hands on one. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catwoman">Catwoman</a>? <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huntress_(comics)">Huntress</a>? (We're voting for Catwoman, personally.) Either way, it looks like another iconic hero will be revealed and confirmed as appearing in the final game. <br /><br />Now all we have to do is barge our way into Comic-Con, use our ingenious grapple guns to swing over across the convention floor, and then steal all of the posters so no one will ever know who the new hero is. Then that will lead into our plans for world domination... oh, wait, we probably shouldn't have blogged that out loud.<br /><br />Um, er... Who do you guys think it is?</div>

Cryptic Studios will be showing off <em><a href="http://www.champions-online.com">Champions Online</a> </em>at <a href="http://www.nycomiccon.com/App/homepage.cfm?moduleid=2577&amp;appname=100453">New York Comic Con</a> (which takes place in February from the 6th to the 8th) and <a href="http://www.champions-online.com/node/3137">they want you to know</a> that you will be handsomely rewarded if you are able to pay them a visit. Not only will there be new playable demos to explore, but fans will also be treated to swag, and the possibility of beta keys. The beta keys will be awarded to contest winners, but we've got no idea what the contests might be, so you'd best brush up on your feats of strength, eye-laser marksmanship, and flight dexterity, just to be safe. And polished it is. <a href="http://legendsofnorrath.station.sony.com/"><em>Legends of Norrath</em></a> might have been a fair crowd-pleaser, but it had its share of flaws, and SOE-Denver have taken time to tune things up and streamline the play. Plus, it's <em>Star Wars</em> -- come on. You know you want it.</p>
<p>Search your feelings, you know it to be true.</p>
<p>You will be able to get your groove on, either via the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-galaxies/">SWG</a></em> client or through a special standalone client, against other players or against an NPC opponent. Four classic Star Wars archetypes are available for play: Rebel and Jedi, and (of course) those bad boys, the Imperials and Sith. Aside from the basic one-on-one matches, there's word of at least one storyline game (and perhaps more later) set somewhere between Star Wars epsiodes four and five.</p><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/champions-of-the-force-exposed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Champions of the Force, exposed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/champions-of-the-force-exposed/">Champions of the Force, exposed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 06 Aug 2008 16:00:00 EST. Along the way, he notes that <em>Free Realms</em> characters are not locked onto a given server, and can easily move to other servers to meet up with friends. <br /><br />Strzalkowski also touches upon the system of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/e308-membership-and-microtransactions-in-free-realms/">point accrual and redemption</a> for premium content in the game. Also, true to its name, <em>Free Realms</em> allows for a free-to-play experience, with an optional possibility of earning points through short ad views. He shows viewers a simple user interface, with an <a href="http://www.tuaw.com">OS X-like</a> dock at the bottom of the screen and an animated map.The video presentation focuses mostly on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/20/e308-social-networking-and-web-games-in-free-realms/">minigames and quests,</a> with bite-sized play times linked to rewards. The idea is that it provides a sense of accomplishment without having to rack up hours of gameplay.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/free-realms-video-preview-shows-quests-in-action/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Free Realms video preview shows quests in action</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/free-realms-video-preview-shows-quests-in-action/">Free Realms video preview shows quests in action</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 04 Aug 2008 21:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/39381">The folks at Ten Ton Hammer met with Funcom Product Manager Erling Ellingsen</a> at <a href="http://www.comic-con.com">Comic Con</a> over the weekend. Ellingsen described many of the planned updates to <a href="http://www.ageofconan.com"><em>Age of Conan</em>.</a> We'd already heard about most of them, but this video interview is a good place to go for a round-up of what's to come.<br /><br />Ellingsen did reveal a tantalizing new detail about the Kingship system, though. If you're not familiar with Kingship, that's not surprising; it was only <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/holiday-edition-of-aoc-box-in-the-works-360-version-on-track/">mentioned in one interview</a> before now. It allows guilds to form alliances. Those alliances can build and fight over "legendary battle keeps." The new info: alliances can build "wonders of the world" in those keeps. We're intrigued by that idea; it sounds like something from Sid Meier's <a href="http://www.civilization.com"><em>Civilization</em>.</a><br /><br />Ellingsen also talked about plans to add more NPCs walking around guild cities, and to greatly expand visual customization options for the cities.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/age-of-conan-rep-talks-kingship-new-zones-and-more/">Age of Conan rep talks Kingship, new zones, and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 19:00:00 EST.
