<br />
A couple of weeks ago I penned a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-soapbox/">Soapbox</a> that, to put it mildly, elicited passionate responses. While a few people sided with me in my belief that MMO combat is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/13/the-soapbox-why-mmo-combat-sucks-and-how-bioware-couldve-made/">silly and sucky</a>, the cries of the masses drowned us out with variations on "you know nothing, Jon Snow" and "go back to consoles, you inexperienced newb!"<br />
<br />
Some of the responses got me to thinking about game design in general and about game designers and their <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/15/the-soapbox-game-developers-are-not-rock-stars/">cult celebrity status</a> in particular. When you cut through the anonymous insults and keyboard courage, most of my would-be critics were actually right about one thing: I'm not a game "developer." You know what's funny, though? That doesn't make a lick of difference when it comes to the ability to talk intelligently about games and game design.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/27/the-soapbox-on-armchair-development/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Soapbox: On armchair development</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/27/the-soapbox-on-armchair-development/">The Soapbox: On armchair development</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 27 Sep 2011 13:30:00 EST. If you're anywhere as excited as us for <a href="http://www.apb.com/"><em>All Points Bulletin</em></a> you'll be happy to know we had the chance to ask Lead Designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ej-moreland">EJ Moreland</a> and Community Manager <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/chris-collins/">Chris Collins</a> a bevy of questions, which they answered with supreme openness.<br />
<br />
We've got the scoop on all sorts of topics, from Realtime Worlds' stance on community interaction, whether or not the game will have official forums, content updates post-launch and plenty more. We hope you enjoy reading the interview as much as we did conducting it!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/26/massively-interviews-all-points-bulletins-chris-collins-and-ej/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively interviews All Points Bulletin's Chris Collins and EJ Moreland</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/26/massively-interviews-all-points-bulletins-chris-collins-and-ej/">Massively interviews All Points Bulletin's Chris Collins and EJ Moreland</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 26 Jan 2010 10:00:00 EST. Most look completely out of place playing or talking about games, and more often then not, they have a look of barely restrained condescension on their faces. That's why it's always refreshing to <a href="http://www.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=11178">see an interview</a> like the one Allakhazam posted recently with Curt Schilling, the veteran ace pitcher from the World Series champion Boston Red Sox.<br /><br />The interview is light-hearted and jovial, but it fairly well establishes Schilling's gamer cred. This is no fair-weather fan here, Schilling talks in some depth about days long past in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest"><em>EQ</em></a> doing late night corpse runs with guildmates, why he took so strongly to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest-ii"><em>EQ2</em></a>, and his approach to balancing games and real life. Perhaps most exciting of all is when he talks about <a href="http://www.38studios.com/">38 Studios</a>, the MMO development house that he started up with Todd McFarlane and R.A. Salvatore. He doesn't slip us any specifics about the game they have in the works, but he does go into detail about their development philosophy (it's done when it's done), and the advantages of being independently owned. Even if you're not a baseball fan (or if you are and hate the Red Sox), you'll probably find something to like in the interview. Definitely <a href="http://www.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=11178">check it out.</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/09/allakhazam-grills-curt-schilling-on-game-habits-new-mmo-studio/">Allakhazam grills Curt Schilling on game habits, new MMO studio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 09 Nov 2007 14:32:00 EST.
