I've covered the Second Life Cable Network before, but there's so much programming that I wanted to highlight one specific segment. Every week, residents join Paisley Beebe to watch her talk show, Tonight Live. Her previous guests have included sean Voss, Celebrity Trollop, Cylindrian Rutabaga, Filthy Fluno, TheDiva Rockin, and Torley Linden!

Last week, Paisley interviewed Beyers Sellers, otherwise known as Robert Bloomfield, who also has a weekly show on SLCN called Metanomics. Mayor Gavin Newsom's not completely a stranger to Second Life, having been interviewed by Reuters' Adam Pasick in Second Life at the WEF media event in Davos, twelve months ago.

Well, Newsom's back at the New Globe Theater in Second Life for an discussion with Philip Rosedale over the parallels, opportunities and challenges of managing two famously diverse, tech-savvy and dynamic communities with global profiles: the City of San Francisco, and Second Life. Newsom will also be discussing his priorities for his next term, and both Rosedale and Newsom will be taking questions.

Several days ago, Celebrity Trollop announced that Second Style would be taking signups for their Secret Santa game. You can pick up her lovingly hand-scripted Secret Santa kiosk vendor at the Second Style HQ. Please note that signups close on December 19th at 12pm PST, so hurry!

On the 19th, you'll be randomly assigned to another participant. You will have until December 25th to buy them a gift of at least 100L in value, but not more than 500L. Orange Island, previously reported upon here, will be holding a day-long summit this Friday, November 16, on the nature of identity and how it relates to one's avatar in Second Life. It's a packed event, with a host of SL luminaries presenting, including Ordinal Malaprop, Torley Linden, Celebrity Trollop, Michi Lumin, and Forseti Svarog.

The day's line-up looks like this:
  • 9am - 10am - Avatar as a Personal Brand
    Speakers: Torley Linden, Celebrity Trollop, and Saeya Nyanda
    Moderator: Haver Cole
  • 10am - 11am - Open Discussion on Avatar and Brand Identity
  • 11am - 12pm - Persona and Identity Transparency in Business
    Speakers: Ordinal Malaprop, Forseti Svarog
  • 12pm - 1pm - Open Discussion and Gallery Showing of Avatar Showcase Winners
  • 1pm - 2pm - Non-Human Avatars
    Speakers: NeoBokrug Elytis, Kumi Kuhr, Michi Lumin
    Moderator: Adri Saarinen
  • 2pm - 3pm - Open Discussion and Gallery Showing of You and Your Avatar photos
  • 3pm - 5pm - Wind Down Mixer and Discussions

Finally, leading up to the event, the preceding Thursday will witness the Avatar Showcase, where "Residents are invited to present their most unique and interesting avatar in this two hour event. The top three avatars will have their portraits made and displayed during one of the gallery exhibitions during the following day's discussions." Full information on Orange Island's website. We've all encountered obnoxious bling in Second Life. There's the girl who blinks from head to toe, or the guy whose dollar sign neck chain lights up the entire room. Then there's the girl on the right, whose entire face has been obscured by her Rudolph nose.

Celebrity Trollop, of Second Style Fashionista, recently polled her readers to find out their stance on bling. At this time, 153 residents have participated, with 64% totally hating bling, 27% merely disliking it, 7% liking it, and 2% totally loving it. Comments on the post include expressed frustration at attempting to remove bling scripts and complaints about the Linden Lab-endorsed jewelry line, First Bling.

In order to combat this epidemic, Celebrity has taken a freebie bling script, originally written by Lyra Walcott, and modified it to be more tolerable. By default, her script has bling set to off, and it is menu driven. She's offering it full permission on OnRez.
