The next <em><a href="http://everquest.station.sony.com/">EverQuest</a>: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/underfoot">Underfoot</a></em> zone preview is up at the EverQuest Players community site, this time giving us <a href="http://eqplayers.station.sony.com/news_article.vm?id=51645">a sneak peek at an area called "The Underquarry"</a>. The Underquarry's main feature is two large sinkholes that were made by some intense waterflow. When the water stopped coming, the area's inhabitants (more servants of Brell) found that there was good mining to be had in the caverns. Similar to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/25/preview-the-pellucid-grotto-zone-from-everquest-underfoot/">the creatures of Pellucid Grotto</a>, the miners take the results of their work and seed them into Norrath, rather than hoarding them down in the Plane of Underfoot.<br /><br />As is expected from these expansion zones, there is some emerging conflict in the Underquarry to look into. Part of the problem is a group of stubborn Burynai (shown above) that are refusing to share parts of the mines, and there are also Cliknars that constantly invade and cause trouble. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/gallery/everquest-underfoot/2327482/">Our <em>Underfoot</em> gallery</a> is now updated with screenshots from the Underquarry, including a few more Massively exclusive pics -- check it out below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/">EverQuest: Underfoot</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/#2366508"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/10/foundation2_1680x1050_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The Foundation" title="The Foundation" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/#2366507"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/10/foundation6_1680x1050_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The Foundation" title="The Foundation" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/#2366506"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/10/foundation9_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" title="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/#2366504"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/10/foundation18_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" title="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/everquest-underfoot/#2366501"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/10/foundation21_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" title="The Foundation -- Massively Exclusive!" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/see-the-mines-of-eq-underfoot-zone-the-underquarry/">See the mines of EQ: Underfoot zone "The Underquarry"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 30 Sep 2009 12:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/features-announced-for-eqiis-game-update-52/">We heard last week</a> that there are going to be a few new zones in <em><a href="http://everquest2.station.sony.com/">EverQuest II</a>'s</em> Game Update 52, and now <a href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_content.vm?id=3097&amp;section=News&amp;locale=en_US">the EQ2 Players community site has a preview</a> of one of them for us to wrap our eyeballs around. The zone in question is Kurn's Tower: Breaching the Void. It's one of the two single-group instances from GU52 and not the x2 raid instance (although the raid instance is also part of Kurn's Tower). In terms of how difficult Breaching the Void will be, the preview tells us that <em>"<span class="newsContent">adventurers who can tackle Miragul's Phylactery: The Crucible should find that Kurn's Tower: Breaching the Void is a good test of their skill."</span></em><span class="newsContent"><br /><br />So what's actually inside? </span><em>"There are three levels that will need to be conquered and along the way, there will be puppet strings to be cut as well as some other pitfalls. Be sure to bring your parachutes! This is just the beginning of a monumental story, so expect a twist at the end of this dungeon that will lead you onwards and upwards."</em> It sounds like groups will need to work with the Burynai to progress through the dungeon too. There are a few screenshots of the instance available for viewing at the <a href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_content.vm?id=3097&amp;section=News&amp;locale=en_US">EQ2 Players preview page</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/22/new-eqii-zone-kurns-tower-breaching-the-void-preview/">New EQII zone Kurn's Tower: Breaching the Void preview</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 22 May 2009 15:00:00 EST. MMORPG.com has posted <a href="http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?LOADFEATURE=1515&amp;GAMEID=2&amp;SETVIEW=features&amp;PAGE=1&amp;bhcp=1">part one of their Creature Feature article</a>, in which they had a chance to chat with <em>Everquest II </em>senior producer Scott Hartsman about monsters being introduced for the game's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/10/23/everquest-ii-upcoming-expansion-details-set-sail-for-the-rise-o/">upcoming expansion</a>, and about bringing new monsters to an MMO in general. The feature will have two parts, and cover five new monsters from <em>Rise of Kunark</em>. <br /><br />The two nasties that we meet in this episode are the Burynai Casters and the Devourers. These races both debuted in the Kunark expansion of the first <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest/"><em>EverQuest</em></a>. Fans will recall that the Burynai are usually located deep underground -- if you see one walking above ground, you can be sure there's a cavernous tunnel nearby. Devourers seemed to show up all over the place, but I always wondered what the heck allowed them to float in mid-air. Regardless, a very cool-looking mob.<br /><br />Hartsman's contributions to the article are insightful as he discusses ideas, balancing and time frames when bringing new creatures to MMO's. He also reassures us that beyond the five monsters featured in the two-part series, there are plenty more to discover in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest-ii/">EverQuest II</a>'s</em> new expansion. Click through to the full article below, and we'll let you know when part two goes up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/10/26/new-monsters-revealed-for-everquest-ii-expansion-developer-scot/">New monsters revealed for EverQuest II expansion; producer Scott Hartsman weighs in</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 26 Oct 2007 11:00:00 EST.
