For a game that has yet to release, the number of people who closely follow <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> astounds me still. If you follow <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/swtor">the Twitter feed</a>, you will practically see a new fan site pop up daily. Granted, a good chunk of these sites fizzle away as quickly they are built -- it's kind of the nature of the beast. Running a fansite takes a lot of work, and most people who set out to make a fan site are not ready to make that kind of commitment. Having run fan sites in the past, I can tell you that even when you think you're ready, you're not ready.<br />
<br />
Although it's not unique for a game to have a podcast revolving around it, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> is gifted with a very large audience, and with that an exorbitant number of fans willing to devote time to making a podcast. We have already mentioned the podcasts of <a href="http://darthhater.com/podcast">Darth Hater,</a> <a href="http://www.torocast.com/index.php/the-podcasts">TOROcast</a>, and <a href="http://moseisleyradio.com/category/podcast/">Mos Eisley Radio</a> in the past, but since then there has been slue of new podcast that are giving these other guys a run for their money.<br />
<br />
After the break, I will introduce you to some of the newer shows that I enjoy or maybe one of those those who I believe has really stepped up the game since the last time I've talked about them. Start up the holoprojector and follow me!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/hyperspace-beacon-podcast-race/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyperspace Beacon: Podcast race</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/hyperspace-beacon-podcast-race/">Hyperspace Beacon: Podcast race</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 15:00:00 EST. Everyone has been anticipating the next trailer from <a href="http://www.blur.com/">Blur Studio</a> to finish out the <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic's</em></a> video trilogy. Thanks to <a href="http://ea.com">Electronic Arts'</a> new online store, <a href="http://origin.com">Origin</a>, we have a sneak peek into the content of the trailer!<br />
<br />
In the first few seconds of the teaser, you see Jedi Satele Shan and an another unnamed Jedi onboard a starship, then a battalion of Sith Star Destoryers (which we assume has Darth Malgus aboard). Then the battle for Korriban begins. Darth Malgus attempts to take back the Sith homeworld as Satele Shan (with the help of a Smuggler) flees the war-torn planet.<br />
<br />
Catch this full trailer after the break, and stay tuned for more <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/e3-2011">E3</a> MMO news right here!<br />
<br />
[Thanks to BJ Brains for the tip!]<br />

<a href="http://www.soe.com">Sony Online Entertainment</a> has just released a lengthy story trailer for its forthcoming <a href="http://www.dcuniverseonline.com"><em>DC Universe Online</em></a> superhero MMORPG. Debuting early Saturday morning on GameTrailers, the massive video clocks in at over six minutes in length and features nearly all of the <a href="http://www.dccomics.com">DC Comics</a> notables, including Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Wonder Woman, the Joker, and others.<br />
<br />
The hyper-violent cinematic is the latest creation of <a href="http://www.blur.com/">Blur Studio</a>, also known for its <a href="http://www.swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/behind-the-scenes-with-that-swtor-cinematic-trailer/">teaser</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/alderaan-stands-up-to-darth-malgus-in-new-e3-trailer-for-swtor/">work</a>. The cinematic sets up <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/dc-universe-online">DCUO's</a></em> overarching story, in which the heroes team up with Lex Luthor to stop Brainiac and his latest threat to humanity.<br />
<br />

<em>The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/hyperspace-beacon/">Hyperspace Beacon</a> is a weekly guide and discussion by Larry Everett about the yet-to-be-released game </em><a href="http://www.swtor.com/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a>.<br />
<br />
We have been teased, taunted, and tantalized this week before the <a href="http://www.e3expo.com/">Electronic Entertainment Expo</a>, so much so <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>SWTOR</em></a> fans don't know topsy from turvy. In this Hyperspace Beacon, released just hours before <a href="http://www.ea.com/">Electronic Arts</a>' <a href="http://www.ea.com/1/e3">press conference</a> at the Expo, I will hopefully give you the lowdown on the latest news and perhaps help you appreciate the magnitude of the startling reveals. On the surface they may seem like hyped-up teases with very little to latch on to, but I believe they have exposed quite a bit.<br />
<br />
As Massively reporters packed their bags to head to Los Angeles, <a href="http://www.bioware.com">Bioware</a> did not stop tossing tidbits at its diligent disciples. First, we were treated with a <a href="http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6265070/star-wars-the-old-republic-exclusive-hands-on-bounty-hunter-trooper-imperial-agent-smuggler-sith-inquisitor-and-sith-warrior">hands-on walkthrough from Gamespot</a> detailing the beginning quest for most of the starting classes. Twi'leks and chiss were cited as playable species in this revealing report. Also, <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/gametrailers-tv/95?ch=1&amp;sd=1">Gametrailers.com</a> probed the path behind producing an exciting E3 trailer. Besides touring <a href="http://www.blur.com/">Blur</a> studios, the interview taunted us with a brief look into this year's animated short story.<br />
<br />
Continue on after the break to find more insight into the extravagant extraterrestrial exhibition that is this year's E3.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/hyperspace-beacon-e3-extravagant-extraterrestrial-exhibition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyperspace Beacon: E3 -- extravagant extraterrestrial exhibition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/hyperspace-beacon-e3-extravagant-extraterrestrial-exhibition/">Hyperspace Beacon: E3 -- extravagant extraterrestrial exhibition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 14 Jun 2010 12:00:00 EST. The people that made that possible are from <a href="http://www.blur.com/">Blur Studio</a>, specialists in CG animation for games, films, and commercials. The IGN video above features an interview with Derron Ross, an animation supervisor for the company. He explains that although you might not realize it in the final products, a ton of the highest quality game videos are from Blur -- as an example, one of the <a href="http://www.blur.com/warhammer_2.html#">early <em>Warhammer Online</em> trailers</a> that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/28/the-making-of-the-warhammer-online-cinematic/">a lot of you will have seen</a> is from them. Ross goes on to describe what it takes to create something with such dangerously high levels of awesomeness.<br /><br />If this little behind-the-scenes look at the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>SWTOR</em></a> trailer has you craving more CG goodness, <a href="http://www.blur.com/">Blur's website</a> has links to a ton of their other works for your viewing pleasure.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/behind-the-scenes-with-that-swtor-cinematic-trailer/">Behind the scenes with "that SWTOR cinematic trailer"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 09:00:00 EST.
