Significant changes are coming to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/troy-online"><em>Troy Online</em></a> over the next few weeks, and a new press release from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/alt1games">ALT1Games</a> has the details. A "big scale update will include a balance optimization [...] and new content for higher level users on October 13th," according to the news blurb.<br />
<br />
Prior to that, a new battlefield will open up and bring with it a number of tweaks relative to the existing battlefields. First and foremost, any player of any level can participate. The victors will receive a reward buff that affects their entire faction; conquering the battlefield involves holding the capture point for five minutes if you're on the attacking team. The defenders, on the other hand, have to stand their ground for 20 minutes.<br />
<br />
ALT1 remains mum on the new October content for now, but the battlefield updates went live yesterday. We'll keep you updated with fresh information as it's released.<br />

So instead of waiting for a match, experienced players can hop right into a warzone for the glory and honor of their faction. In the warzones, players can capture respawn points to help out their faction and work on their secret society ranking while doing it. MMO shooters are a dime a dozen these days, and whether you're into <a href="http://planetside.station.sony.com/">sci-fi</a>, <a href="http://globalagendagame.com">spy-fi</a>, <a href="http://mag.com">modern warfare</a>, or <a href="http://fallenearth.com">post-apocalyptic</a> mayhem, massively multiplayer gun battles are pretty prevalent across the genre. Not to be outdone by the parade of young whippersnappers is <a href="http://battlegroundeurope.com"><em>World War II Online: Battleground Europe</em></a>, and the granddaddy of MMOFPS titles is still going strong after nearly a decade in service.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.battlegroundeurope.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=46">Cornered Rat's</a> 1.33 version update is nearing the end of its open beta phase, and the new patch is bringing a bevy of changes to the game including brand-new infantry models as well as memory leak fixes, performance tweaks, and an upgrade to the core audio engine, just to name a few.<br />

Due to the extensive work required to revamp the infantry models, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cornered-rat-software">Cornered Rat</a> has delayed a few of its planned features to a future patch (these include emotes, lean, and high command uniforms) but is nonetheless enthusiastic about the new models and anxious to get them in players' hands as soon as possible. I've been spending some time making a home for myself on Artemis. Yes, I've moved away from the PvP server, and I haven't regretted it. I've never really participated in open PvP, so it's not really a surprise. I've said before that I only started on a PvP server to have that extra option available to me and to have an added dose of excitement. Well, your unofficial ambassador to Taborea may be changing his tune.<br />
<br />
After I made the switch to PvE, I wasn't sure what to do. I already had a high-level character. I didn't feel ready to put my main to rest. It's been my dedicated character for over a year, and it does give me the advantage of accessing high-level content. With the limited time I have for<em> <a href="http://us.runesofmagic.com/us/index.html">Runes of Magic</a></em> right now, let alone other MMOs, I was tentative about making an alt. I took the plunge, made an alt, and haven't looked back. Oddly enough -- or maybe not -- I'm enjoying PvP more on a PvE server.<br />
<br />
I've found that I like alt life, and it has me thinking creatively about what to do with each character. I've spoken about <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/05/lost-pages-of-taborea-pvp-culture/">PvP culture</a>; I've mentioned my idea for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/09/lost-pages-of-taborea-its-the-little-thing/">improving battlefields</a>; and last week I spoke <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/06/lost-pages-of-taborea-badge-of-honor/">about siege badges</a> that can help you in battlefields. This week, I want to cover building a low-level PvP alt. There are a lot of things about <a href="http://www.tera-online.com"><em>TERA</em></a> that have helped push it to the forefront of people's minds without having seen much of the game, but <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/16/tera-gets-a-website-overhaul-and-new-lore-updates/">the lore</a> is certainly a big part of it. Aside from being a fine way to wave away fantasy inconsistencies, there's something infinitely unique about a world being dreamed into existence. But life in Northern Shara (with Shara being the eastern continent) is anything but a peaceful dream, as it's the site where the unnatural Argon first burst into the world. <a href="http://www.tera-online.com/about_tera/world/world_shara.php">A new lore entry on the official site</a> goes into detail about just what is happening in the besieged environment.<br />
<br />
Argon forces are both the core threat of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/TERA/"><em>TERA</em></a> and the biggest danger to the region, but they're not after simple conquest. They've imported vast machinery to help them terraform the world into a more fitting environment, crawling across the landscape and distorting it. Still, within the city of Kaiator, the Valkyon Federation (presumably including the player characters) works to stem the flow of invaders and disrupt their efforts. Tigers, PvP, corruption, and more are coming with <a href="http://www.ageofconan.com"><em>Age of Conan</em></a>'s next expansion, <a href="http://www.riseofthegodslayer.com"><em>Rise of the Godslayer</em></a>. Xfire has hosted a <a href="http://www.xfire.com/cms/xf_tnss/">sneak peek live broadcast</a> hosted by game director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/craig-morrison">Craig Morrison</a> and lead expansion designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/joel-bylos">Joel Bylos</a>, and the two have shown off some of the inner workings of the expansion, including some of the changes and additions players will find.<br />

<a href="http://www.square-enix.com/">Square-Enix</a> revealed today that the next update to <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml"><em>FInal Fantasy XI</em></a> will make <a href="http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics/ff11us/detail/3308/detail.html">several adjustments</a> to the <a href="http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics/ff11us/detail/1880/detail.html">Einherjar venue.</a><br /><br />Players have complained that the structure of the battlefield makes it inaccessible and unworthy of the trouble. One of the chief complaints was that new party members could not be introduced into the mix after the progression has begun, and that a player who missed one or more chambers would not be able to continue. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/final-fantasy-xi"><em>FFXI</em></a> team is making the following changes to remedy that.<br /><br />After the next patch, Therion Ichor will be given to players based on how many monsters they've killed, not on whether or not they completed a chamber. Also, only the "organizing player" will need to meet the old requirements for entry into Wings I, II, and III, or Valgrind. According to <a href="http://english.chosun.com/">Digital Chosunilbo,</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ea">Electronic Arts</a> -- the planet Jupiter of game development -- <a href="http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200801/200801110023.html">has plans to open a new studio</a> in Korea this year. EA intends to make three or four new titles for the Asian market. The studio will be a 20 million dollar investment, and its first projects will be online versions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nbastreet"><em>NBA Street</em></a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield_series"><em>Battlefield.</em></a><em> </em>All this will be helmed by Danny Isaac of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fifa"><em>FIFA Soccer</em></a> fame. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=16933">Gamasutra noted</a> that this is not EA's first foray into the Asian market.
