<em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XIV/">Final Fantasy XIV</a></em> players have been waiting for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ffxiv-patch-1.18/">patch 1.18</a> to drop for quite some time, but the wait is finally over. Players can finally access <a href="http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/17007?p=241517&amp;#post241517">the variety of updates and improvements that the newest patch has promised</a>, including a large overhaul to the combat system that ushers in auto-attack functionality and the addition of the new Grand Companies. While the former is just the first step toward making a more thorough overhaul of the game's combat engine, the latter will give players rank 22 and up new missions to participate in while attempting to safeguard Eorzea.<br />
<br />
Other improvements include a streamlining of the enmity system complete with in-game warnings, improvements to repair functionality, and a general streamlining and adjustment of the guildleve system. All told, it's quite a large change to the existing elements of the game, something that <em>Final Fantasy XIV</em> players will no doubt want to devote a fair chunk of time to exploring.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/21/final-fantasy-xiv-launches-patch-1-18/">Final Fantasy XIV launches patch 1.18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 21 Jul 2011 21:00:00 EST. <em>Welcome to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/not-so-massively/">Not So Massively</a>, our weekly roundup of the top news from popular multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBAs) and other multiplayer online games that aren't quite MMOs. Published every Saturday, the column covers games such as </em><a href="http://www.leagueoflegends.com/">League of Legends</a><em>, </em><a href="http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/">Heroes of Newerth</a><em>, </em><a href="http://www.riseofimmortals.com/">Rise of Immortals</a><em>, </em><a href="http://www.bloodlinechampions.com">Bloodline Champions</a>,<em> and more.</em><br />
<br />
Last week was massive for gaming, with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2011/">a ton of exciting news pouring out of E3</a>. We shared news of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/11/not-so-massively-extra-league-of-legends-reveals-three-new-cham/">the next three champions</a> coming to <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/league-of-legends"><em>League of Legends</em></a> and got talking to developers at <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/riot-games">Riot Games</a> to find out what's on the game's horizon. We <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/11/not-so-massively-e3-was-full-of-interweb-games/">also got an in-depth look</a> at <em><a href="http://vorp.endgames.net/">Vorp!</a></em>, the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/14/not-so-massively-extra-an-interview-with-vorp-developer-end-ga/">Asteroids-esque shooter by END Games</a>. We heard about plans to add a new DotA mode to <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Vorp">Vorp!</a></em> and found out that the game could feasibly be ported to smartphones and other platforms in the future. We also looked at <a href="http://realmofthetitans.aeriagames.com/"><em>Realm of the Titans</em></a>' crystal upgrade system and showed a MOBA Champions interview with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Rise-of-Immortals"><em>Rise of Immortals</em></a>' community manager <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/matthew-anderson">Matthew Anderson</a>.<br />
<br />
Following last week's deluge of news, this week's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/not-so-massively/">Not So Massively</a> offerings are a little more muted as most of the current MOBAs prepare for competitive tournaments at <a href="http://www.dreamhack.se">Dreamhack 2011 in Sweden</a>. Competitive online gaming as a profession is an old idea, but it's one that has seen growing support in the West over the past few years. Dreamhack is the world's largest LAN party and possibly the biggest event in the competitive gaming calendar, with dozens of companies sponsoring tournaments with massive cash prizes. We also get a look at <em><a href="http://aida.gamerkraft.com/">Aida Arenas</a></em>' Arena Hustle gameplay mode and new online World War II RTS <em><a href="http://www.operationgamma41.com/">Operation Gamma 41</a></em>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/18/not-so-massively-dreamhack-tournament-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Not So Massively: Dreamhack tournament edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/18/not-so-massively-dreamhack-tournament-edition/">Not So Massively: Dreamhack tournament edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 18 Jun 2011 20:00:00 EST. Listen up, soldiers! We're going to post this once and only once, so I want all eyes and ears on this blog post! Do you get me!?<br /><br />*Waits to hear the chorus of "We get you, sir!" coming from the computer monitor.*<br /><br />We have gotten word from AFS High Command that the Bane are <a href="http://www.playtr.com/news/latest_news/tabula_rasa_shutdown_events.html">preparing for an all out attack</a> against the Allied Free Sentients in <a href="http://www.rgtr.com"><em>Tabula Rasa</em></a>. This will be the single largest troop movement that the battlefields have seen to date. This is why all soldiers are being asked to fortify all AFS bases in preparation of an attack on Saturday at 8 PM GMT for the Centarus (EU) server and again at 8 PM CST for the Hydra server.<br /><br />These attacks will be lead by the <a href="http://ubermonster.blogspot.com/2007/10/neph-enslaver-tabula-rasa.html">infamous Neph</a>, cousin race to the benevolent Eloh. Neph are the most intelligent commanders that the Bane has to throw against us, but we will fight them back!<br /><br />The attacks are expected to last until midnight GMT and midnight CST. If we are unsuccessful with our defense, and should we be overrun, then we will make sure that their victory will cost them everything! The Penumbra Division has been ordered to <a href="http://www.playtr.com/news/latest_news/feedback_friday_022709.html">ready the last resort weapon</a> and only fire it should we still be under attack at midnight. <strong>If we're going down, we're taking them, and the server, with us!<br /></strong><strong><br /></strong>Hoo-rah, soldiers!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/02/27/tabula-rasas-shutdown-salute-schedule/">Tabula Rasa's shutdown salute schedule</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 27 Feb 2009 13:00:00 EST.
