Watch out America -- your soil is no longer safe from the rampaging treads of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-tanks"><em>World of Tanks</em></a>! <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/wargaming.net/">Wargaming.net</a> announced the forthcoming 7.2 update for the game which includes a US twist: an American map called Live Oaks, US tank destroyers, and updates to two of the top-tier American heavy tanks.<br />
<br />
Update 7.2 will be arriving in the first quarter of this year, and also contains an Italian map (Campania), an integrated tutorial to help newbies get a handle on the game, and 20 new crew skills.<br />
<br />
Lead Game Designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Mike-Zhivets/">Mike Zhivets</a> is all aglow over 7.2: "We are always happy to introduce new features and game content to our community. Many more new exciting features are on their way and will be introduced in the nearest updates."<br />
<br />
You can check out the diesel action in the trailer after the jump!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/02/world-of-tanks-invades-america-in-update-7-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>World of Tanks invades America in Update 7.2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/02/world-of-tanks-invades-america-in-update-7-2/">World of Tanks invades America in Update 7.2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 02 Feb 2012 10:00:00 EST. But there's even more good news -- the company has just announced VanaFest 2010, the official fan gathering for the game, on February 28th in Tokyo.<br />
<br />
The official announcement, <a href="http://petfoodalpha.com/2010/01/vanafest-2010-confirmed/">mirrored</a> on <a href="http://petfoodalpha.com/">Pet Food Alpha</a>, makes a strong point that there will be a great deal of information about upcoming job changes and game updates coming for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XI/">Final Fantasy XI</a></em>. It seems that even with its big brother on the horizon, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Square/">Square</a> is still committed to its older game, a welcome sight for many fans. There's also an undisclosed "special announcement" rumored to be coming at the convention.<br />
<br />
Pet Food Alpha also has <a href="http://petfoodalpha.com/2010/01/a-closer-look-at-vanafest/">a few additional pieces of information</a>. The tickets for the event will be free of charge, but will only be available to players with an active Japanese POL ID since December 2008. Attendees will be lucky enough to receive the pictured chocobo cap, while those unable to attend will have to be content with the new information coming out of the convention. With any luck, a similar event will be held for American and European players, but even just knowing that new facts are incoming for the game should be enough to get fans worked up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/16/square-enix-announces-vanafest-2010/">Square-Enix announces VanaFest 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 16 Jan 2010 18:00:00 EST. It's not very often that we get to announce that an American player won an international gaming championship! RobinSwan from the US server of <a href="http://atlantica.ndoorsgames.com"><em>Atlantica Online</em></a> went to capture the gold this year in the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/06/atlantica-online-selected-for-game-and-game-world-championship-2/">Game and Game World Championship</a> (GNGWC), a collection of events focusing on different MMOs and featuring the top gamers from around the world.<br />
<br />
Robin went to trump 16 competitors from Europe, Vietnam, North America, Korea, South America, China, Japan and Thailand to take the prize of $5,000 and the gold medal for the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/atlantica-online"><em>Atlantica Online</em></a> event. Robin's winning mercenary combos included a stun-lock/DoT combination of the Musician and Shaman to close the final match against Liu from China.<br />
<br />
We've got an exclusive Q&amp;A with RobinSwan about his winning techniques after the break, so come along and learn some PvP tactics for <em>Atlantica Online</em>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/12/18/usa-takes-the-gold-in-atlantica-online-during-the-game-and-game/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>USA takes the gold in Atlantica Online during the Game and Game World Championship</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/12/18/usa-takes-the-gold-in-atlantica-online-during-the-game-and-game/">USA takes the gold in Atlantica Online during the Game and Game World Championship</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 18 Dec 2009 13:00:00 EST. Powerhouse alliance Band of Brothers <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/29/the-new-york-times-reveals-new-band-of-brothers-strategy/">announced their plans</a> for New Eden in one story, while the <a href="http://www.eve-csm.com/">Council of Stellar Management's (CSM)</a> summit with <a href="http://www.ccpgames.com">CCP Games</a> also caught The New York Times' attention. A number of members of the press were in attendance at the CSM summit in Reykjavik, a first for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><em>EVE Online</em></a> and for the MMO industry itself. It's refreshing to see increased mainstream coverage of the niche title that avoids the <em>'gee golly'</em> tone so prevalent when MMOs are discussed in mass media. <br /><br />Seth Schiesel from The New York Times reports broadly on the 12 hours of meetings between the players who comprise the CSM and the developers and executives of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games">CCP Games.</a> As with any democratic process, differing viewpoints on how the CSM should operate led to some internal conflicts, Schiesel writes. It's interesting to note that the American CSM delegates favored "full and total disclosure" while their European counterparts on the Council preferred to deliberate privately before going public with recommendations and announcements. Given the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/eve-evolved-stellar-council-one-month-on/">controversy and forum outcries</a> surrounding the CSM in recent weeks, it's understandable that this divide in outlooks would persist. But whatever issues the CSM had with one another, they were put aside as the Council performed their elected duties, representing the interests of their constituents <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/eve-dev-blog-council-of-stellar-management-summit-recap/">face-to-face with CCP.</a> See The New York Times piece for <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/28/arts/television/28eve.html?_r=1&amp;ref=television&amp;oref=slogin">more details on the CSM meeting</a> in Reykjavik, and for a brief profile of some of the delegates next to their alter egos.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/eve-onlines-csm-summit-covered-in-the-new-york-times/">EVE Online's CSM summit covered in The New York Times</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 08:35:00 EST. After <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/is-single-player-content-hurting-mmorpgs/">this post</a>, I had it in mind to think through why I prefer to solo, and whether the reasons why are valid ones, given that I'm playing in a genre meant to provide a social experience. I'm going to try to list as many reasons as I can think of in favor of grouping and playing with buddies, and provide a counter-argument if I can. Bear in mind, this is <strong>not</strong> me telling you that <strong>you</strong> should go solo; this is just me trying to 1) explain why I do it, and 2) understand for myself whether my reasons hold water.<br /><br />Enough said; excelsior!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/the-soloist-why-i-do-it/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Soloist: Why I do it</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/the-soloist-why-i-do-it/">The Soloist: Why I do it</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 19 Nov 2007 09:30:00 EST.
