	Ladies and gentlemen, this match is scheduled for one fall! In the blue corner, weighing in at 200 pounds of pure Force, we have the Jedi Consular. In the red corner, we have the conniving Imperial Agent. Who will come out on top? Well, that's for you to decide, but the folks at <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/bioware">BioWare </a>want to make sure everyone is making informed decisions.<br />
	<br />
	In light of that, the studio has released a new <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> video in which a number of devs (verbally) duke it out in hopes of proving that their class is the best class. So jump past the cut and check it out, then decide for yourself who comes out on top (protip: it's the Agent). Oh, and while you're at it, don't forget that you can now preorder <em>The Old Republic </em>peripherals, so if you're in the market for a new mouse, keyboard, or headset, you can declare your allegiance for the Empire or Republic with a new gadget. For the full details, hit the <em>SWTOR </em>official site.</div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/02/star-wars-the-old-republic-pits-the-jedi-consular-against-the-i/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Wars: The Old Republic pits the Jedi Consular against the Imperial Agent</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/02/star-wars-the-old-republic-pits-the-jedi-consular-against-the-i/">Star Wars: The Old Republic pits the Jedi Consular against the Imperial Agent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 02 Dec 2011 17:00:00 EST. It's been a day for news about <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars--The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> as we move still closer to release. The latest character progression video has been unveiled for the Agent, showing both the differences in equipment and abilities players can expect as they level up as one of the subtle hands of the Sith Empire's will. As players grow in power, they can either take the route of the stealthy and aggressive Operative or the resourceful ranged Sniper.<br />
<br />
On the Operative route, armors tend toward hooded attire as the character employs a variety of blades, bombs, and short-range blaster attacks to keep enemies pinned. Snipers, meanwhile, are sleekly armored ranged dispensers of death, with their abilities culminating in a large-scale orbital strike to take out inconvenient enemies. If you're itching to play an Agent, you'd be well-served to take a look at the full trailer to see all that the class is capable of doing in the name of the Empire.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/agent-progression-revealed-for-star-wars-the-old-republic/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Agent progression revealed for Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/agent-progression-revealed-for-star-wars-the-old-republic/">Agent progression revealed for Star Wars: The Old Republic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 04 Nov 2011 18:45:00 EST. "Peace between Republic and Empire is crumbling. Every world, signs of war."<br />
<br />
Thus begins a two-minute journey through <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic's</em></a> setting, as the narrator takes us to a half-dozen worlds where conflict is brewing, people are being stabbed in the back, Bantha raiders are waving sticks above their heads, and players' mouths are salivating.<br />
<br />
This new trailer, <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20111014">Signs of War</a>, is being shown this weekend at the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/New-York-Comic-Con/">New York Comic Con</a>. While it might not be packed with new information, it's certainly a pulse-pounding buildup to this December's launch. From Jedi to Agents, every class gets its little moment to shine in it, packaged between explosions and large-scale conflict.<br />
<br />
You can watch the full trailer after the jump!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/swtor-trailer-revels-in-the-signs-of-war/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SWTOR trailer revels in the signs of war</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/swtor-trailer-revels-in-the-signs-of-war/">SWTOR trailer revels in the signs of war</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 14 Oct 2011 17:00:00 EST. What can you trust when your memories are merely the by-product of intelligent machines tinkering with your brain? When you come right down to it, who's to say that our alleged recollections of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-matrix-online/"><em>The Matrix Online</em></a> weren't just computer viruses uploaded into our cerebral cortexes -- and that the game never existed at all?<br />
<br />
Real or not, <em>The Matrix Online</em> is in no danger of being forgotten. Whether it's because of the meta setting, the too-hip-to-stay-on-cows fashion, or the interactive stories, <em>MxO </em>never fails to evoke passionate testimonies. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/17/the-game-archaeologist-jacks-into-the-matrix-online-jamming-wit/">After speaking with developer Ben Chamberlain last week</a>, today we're going to turn the tables on the players themselves to see what they have to say.<br />
<br />
Was <em>The Matrix Online</em> really all that <em>and</em> a bag of computer chips? Was it merely a good-looking graphical chat room or something more? And how will it be remembered many years from now when we sit our grandchildren on our laps and tell them about how we took the blue pill? Or was it red... I can never remember!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/24/the-game-archaeologist-jacks-into-the-matrix-online-your-memori/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Game Archaeologist jacks into The Matrix Online: Your memories</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/24/the-game-archaeologist-jacks-into-the-matrix-online-your-memori/">The Game Archaeologist jacks into The Matrix Online: Your memories</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 24 May 2011 17:00:00 EST. At the end of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/11/21/eve-evolved-preparing-for-incursion/">last week's article</a> on preparing for <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a>'s <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/incursion/"><em>Incursion</em></a> expansion, I mentioned that part of our expansion preparation here at Massively would involve opening a Massively corporation in the game. This is something I've always wanted to do but haven't had the time to properly launch. I've been running the Pillowsoft corporation in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-evolved"><em>EVE</em></a> for the past six years or so, during which time the corp has been involved in almost every major game expansion. In two and a half years of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-evolved">EVE Evolved column</a>, I've had countless readers ask to join my corporation and have had to turn them all down.<br />
<br />
With <em>Incursion</em> rapidly approaching and Pillowsoft's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/26/eve-evolved-just-another-week-in-the-sleepers-den/">latest wormhole expedition</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/11/20/wrup-the-magical-world-inside-a-hong-kong-refrigerator-edition/">coming to an end</a>, we now have the perfect opportunity to start a proper Massively corporation. In addition to providing financial help and some solid guidance to newer <em>EVE</em> players, the corp will be running frequent contests and event nights for any readers who want to participate. If you don't want to leave your current corporation but still want to hang out with other Massively readers and take part in our contests and events, don't worry. We also have an option just for you!<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">When <a href="http://BioWare.com">BioWare</a> gives out so much information about one class, where do you start? We now have confirmation of the Sniper DPS sub-class and the support/healing Operative class for the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/imperial-agent">Imperial Agent</a>. Also, we know more about the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/inhabitants/chiss">Chiss' origins</a>, the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/starships/x-70b-phantom">Agent's starship</a>, and the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/imperial-agent">Agent class' combat role</a> in <a href="http://swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>.<br />
<br />
The Chiss hail from the the unknown regions of galactic space, and their advanced <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Chiss_Ascendancy">Ascendancy</a> evolved independently from the Republic and the Sith Empire. Despite having a grand army these blue-skinned humanoids prefer to handle war through negotiation and espionage. So when the Sith Empire brought its fleet to conquer Chiss Space, instead of being met by brute force as in other systems, the Empire was met by diplomatic messages. These negotiations allowed for the Chiss to become the only true ally of the Sith Empire.<br />
<br />
As with any spy for the Empire, the Agent needs the most advanced starship one can find. In this case, we are talking about the X70B-Phantom-class Prototype. The superior technology of this starship prevents it from being mass-produced, so it is only given to the best operatives. The shape and haul keep the craft off most radars, and the navigation system will not be seen on any other ship for the next couple of decades.<br />
<br />
Generally, the training for an Imperial Agent will go one of two ways. Secrecy and stealth are the weapons of the Agent, and much like its Republic counterpart, the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/smuggler">Smuggler</a> Scoundrel, the Operative can specialize in medical technology as well. However, unlike the Smuggler Gunslinger DPS class, the Sniper's advantage is the distance and precision of rifles instead of the Gunslinger's rapid-fire dual short-ranged pistols.<br />

As some of you may know, I love roleplaying in MMOs. Most of the MMOs I've played have had RPG tagged at the end. Even though it's not required to roleplay to enjoy an MMORPG, immersion is compounded when you do, therefore fun is compounded, too. In the Star Wars universe, I could not help but wrap myself in lore when I played a soldier or agent of the Galactic Empire. From line and formation to order and procedure -- all of this was in service to His Majesty, the Emperor. Of all the characters I made over my seven years of <a href="http://www.starwarsgalaxies.com"><em>Star Wars Galaxies</em></a>, my Imperial characters were the most purpose-driven.<br />
<br />
When <a href="http://www.bioware.com">Bioware</a> announced the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/trooper">trooper class</a> for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a>, many players asked who would want to play a clone. There's no personality there, no motivation or character development, right? I disagree very strongly. In fact, I will go so far as to say I believe there is only one binding factor between soldier types: loyalty. Even then there are different types of loyalties and different motivations behind an individual character's loyalties.<br />
<br />
Step past the break and watch as I contrast the loyalty of famous factions of existing Star Wars soldiers and compare them to the trooper and agent classes of <em>SWTOR</em>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/12/hyperspace-beacon-loyal-to-their-cause/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyperspace Beacon: Loyal to their cause</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/12/hyperspace-beacon-loyal-to-their-cause/">Hyperspace Beacon: Loyal to their cause</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 12 Jul 2010 15:00:00 EST. One of the frequently-voiced concerns about <a href="http://www.swtor.com"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> is the possibility that the non-Force classes will wind up becoming almost irrelevant. Who's going to pay attention to being a spy when you can wield an energy sword and fling lightning, right? As a matter of fact, the <a href="http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/imperial-agent">Imperial Agent</a> would like very much if no one ever notices they exist. They're quite happy to stand in the background and never be observed, because as <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/blog/20100101_001">the latest developer's entry explains</a>, that's precisely what the Agent does best. They exist in the shadow, the man of many faces and a hundred names, a presence whose influence is strongest when it isn't evident at all.<br />
<br />
<em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic/">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> faces the difficult task of making the <a href="http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sith">Sith</a> -- traditionally the villains of the franchise -- into a playable and likable faction rather than monolithic evil. As the developer entry points out, the Imperial Agent is a major part of that, of giving the chance to look at someone who is quite possibly a proud citizen of the Empire and happy to serve in keeping the peace and bring down the Republic. It's also a look at the parts between the lines of the films, the spies and intel operators whose role was important but whose faces were rarely seen. But you might decide not to look at <a href="http://www.swtor.com/news/blog/20100101_001">the full discussion of the class</a> anyway -- and as we've mentioned, really, that's what the agent would want.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/star-wars-the-old-republic-releases-more-intel-on-the-imperial/">Star Wars: The Old Republic releases more intel on the Imperial Agent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 02 Jan 2010 11:00:00 EST. Or we could say, <em>"It's an MMO that's gene spliced with a first person shooter."</em> That's pretty accurate as well. But whichever way you look at it, <em>Global Agenda</em> is a game that's hard to define with any single, existing label. You'll play as an "agent" in one of four classes -- Assault (heavy weapons), Recon (stealth and melee), Robotic (gadgets galore), or Medic -- in a game that's as much about fast-paced combat as it is about controlling territory and tapping resources on an alliance (guild) level. <br /><br />The title is in development at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/hi-rez-studios">Hi-Rez Studios</a>, and <a href="http://www.i4u.com">I4U News</a> recently spoke with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/global-agenda"><em>Global Agenda</em></a> executive producer Todd Harris about what makes this game unique. Harris discusses <em>Global Agenda</em>'s elements of world control and says, <em>"When a player alliance successfully claims an entire zone, anticipated to take approximately 45 days, that group will be rewarded with prestige items, public display of their alliance banner, and permanent notation within the lore of the world." </em><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/global-agenda-producer-interview-explains-players-vs-playable-e/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Global Agenda producer interview explains Players vs. Playable Environments</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/global-agenda-producer-interview-explains-players-vs-playable-e/">Global Agenda producer interview explains Players vs. Playable Environments</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 09 Jul 2009 09:00:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://eve.grismar.net/wikka.php?wakka=AgentMissions">Agent missions</a> are one of <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><span style="font-style: italic;">EVE Online</span></a>'s most popular pastimes. While <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online"><span style="font-style: italic;">EVE</span></a> is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/03/08/eve-evolved-the-secret-of-eve-onlines-success/">most often lauded for its open-ended gameplay, player-determined markets and PvP action</a>, a significant portion of the game's players use missions as their primary income source. There is something comforting about missions that seems to draw players in. For many, running missions and upgrading their ship with the ISK becomes the focus of their achievements and their primary measure of progress. The ability of mission-running to provide a direct translation of effort into a stable ISK income offers us a reassuringly linear work-to-reward scheme in a relatively risk-free environment. Missions and exploration are <span style="font-style: italic;">EVE</span>'s primary PvE experiences and new missions are released with each major expansion to help keep the game fresh for casual players. There are even several epic mission arcs planned for the future, long sequences of storyboarded missions much like the quest chains you might find in other MMOs.<br />
<br />
In this multi-part guide, I will thoroughly examine <a href="http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Missions_guide">the profession of mission-running</a>, from the basics to ship fittings and finally some tips and tricks for maximising your performance. In this first part of the guide, I look at the basics of mission-running from mission types and rewards to agent standings and how to find the best agent for you.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/28/eve-evolved-mission-running-the-basics/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Evolved: Mission-running - the basics</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/06/28/eve-evolved-mission-running-the-basics/">EVE Evolved: Mission-running - the basics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 28 Jun 2009 20:00:00 EST. One of the big lures to <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a> is the fact that its PvP isn't just shoehorned into consensual duels and battlegrounds. Instead, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><em>EVE</em></a> PvP can occur anywhere whether you like it or not and punishments are levied after-the-fact for engaging in unsanctioned combat in designated safe areas. In <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/19/eve-evolved-pvp-masterclass-introduction/">the previous three parts</a> of this exhaustive guide on where you can take your PvP career, I described the different types of PvP <em>EVE</em> has to offer from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/26/eve-evolved-pvp-masterclass-gang-warfare/">small gang warfare</a> to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/02/eve-evolved-pvp-masterclass-fleet-warfare/">massive territorial fleets</a>. In this final part, I explore <em>EVE</em>'s evil side as I talk about piracy and corporate infiltration.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Griefing?:</span><br />In most MMOs, stealing from other players or indiscriminately killing them for fun or profit can be considered griefing and may be against the rules <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/21/dutch-court-convicts-2-minors-of-stealing-virtual-items/">or worse</a>. In the cold, harsh universe of New Eden, however, piracy and theft are just another facet of the complex player-based gameplay. From <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/surviving-gatecamps-in-eve-online/">the common gatecamping pirate</a> to the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/7-deadly-sins-of-eve-online/978792/">criminal masterminds</a> behind the Guiding Hand Social Club heist, players of all kinds are drawn into the criminal underworld of <em>EVE Online</em>.<br /><br />If piracy, theft and corporate infiltration sounds like your cup of tea, continue reading as I delve into the dark side of <em>EVE Online</em>.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/09/eve-evolved-pvp-masterclass-the-dark-side/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVE Evolved: PvP masterclass - The dark side</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/09/eve-evolved-pvp-masterclass-the-dark-side/">EVE Evolved: PvP masterclass - The dark side</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 09 Nov 2008 20:00:00 EST. While attending the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/SOE/">SOE</a> open house event last night after all the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ion08">ION 08</a> panels were finished, we got the chance to sit down with <a href="http://theagency.station.sony.com/" style="font-style: italic;">The Agency's</a> lead designer Hal Milton. He talked about the game at length, which of course meant our ears and eyes were firmly directed in his direction. <br /><br />The first thing we feel is important to mention before getting into some new juicy details, is the recent news about downloadable content for the spy-fueled action MMO. You see there's been some confusion and in speaking to Hal he expressed his desire to clear things up. Players will in fact be able to purchase things with their hard earned money in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/the-agency/" style="font-style: italic;">The Agency</a>, however, these items will not be weapons or equipment. To be clear: From what Hal told us, <span style="font-style: italic;">nothing that gives one player an instant leg-up over another</span> will be for sale. <br /><br />With that out of the way, lets get on to the new information.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ion-08-soe-seattle-studio-open-house/">ION 08: SOE Seattle studio open house</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ion-08-soe-seattle-studio-open-house/#807176"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/05/ion08-soe-tour-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ion-08-soe-seattle-studio-open-house/#807177"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/05/ion08-soe-tour-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ion-08-soe-seattle-studio-open-house/#807178"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/05/ion08-soe-tour-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ion-08-soe-seattle-studio-open-house/#807179"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/05/ion08-soe-tour-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/ion-08-soe-seattle-studio-open-house/#807180"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/05/ion08-soe-tour-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/ion-08-the-agency-update-and-rmt-confusion/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>ION 08: The Agency update and RMT confusion</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/ion-08-the-agency-update-and-rmt-confusion/">ION 08: The Agency update and RMT confusion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 15 May 2008 11:30:00 EST.
