	Have you ever wondered what kind of dirt law enforcement officers would be able to dig up on you if they went to <a href="http://www.massively.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> developer <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/blizzard-entertainment">Blizzard</a> for information? Well, wonder no more. An 18-page document has been leaked to the internet thanks to the notorious organization known as AntiSec. The document is two years old, but it outlines what information Blizzard will disclose to law enforcement officers under given stipulations.<br />
	<br />
	And in completely and utterly unrelated news (well, Chuck Norris played a Texas ranger, so I guess there's some kind of connection), the game has revived its celebrity-laden advertisement series with a new commercial featuring none other than the hero of Barrens chat himself, mister Chuck Norris. As expected, the short clip is full of <em>WoW</em>-modified Chuck Norris jokes because apparently that horse hasn't been sufficiently flogged yet. To see the ad for yourself, just click on past the cut.</div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/world-of-warcraft-law-enforcement-guide-leaked-new-commercial/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>World of Warcraft 'law enforcement guide' leaked, new commercial released</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/world-of-warcraft-law-enforcement-guide-leaked-new-commercial/">World of Warcraft 'law enforcement guide' leaked, new commercial released</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 21 Nov 2011 18:00:00 EST. Whatever part of <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> you traverse, there is a constant -- the billboards. From Praetoria's official billboards extolling the virtues of working for the state to the civil and capitalistic advertisements dotting Paragon City, no part of the game is free of advertising, albeit for fictional products or services. And the newest contest for the game is asking players to help add to that storied tradition of fake advertisements via <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/news_archive/announcing_the_city_of_heroes_2.html">the creation of your own billboard</a>, advertising a new service or product within the game's setting.<br />
<br />
The contest is open for entries until Monday, January 24th, allowing players ample time to design and send off their best possible advertisements for the game's setting. Obviously, the contest comes with the usual restrictions that disallow players from making offensive, copyrighted, or libelous advertisements, but other than that the sky is the limit. And the prizes? Nothing less than <em>every single add-on for the game</em>, including exclusive convention costumes, for the first-prize winner. Read the full rules and restrictions <a href="http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=245325">here</a>, and if you want to make a mark on <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/City-of-Heroes/">City of Heroes</a></em>, <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/news_archive/announcing_the_city_of_heroes_2.html">get ready to start selling</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/11/29/make-a-billboard-for-city-of-heroes-win-fantastic-prizes/">Make a billboard for City of Heroes, win fantastic prizes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 29 Nov 2010 22:00:00 EST. The MMO industry is an ever-changing, totally unpredictable universe of online games, from hot, massive fully-realized worlds like <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> or <a href="http://eveonline.com"><em>EVE</em></a> to fun casual games like <a href="http://www.farmville.com/"><em>Farmville</em></a> or the <a href="http://www.playcovertops.com/"><em>Agency: Covert Ops</em></a>. <a href="http://gaiaonline.com"><em>Gaia</em> <em>Online</em></a> takes a bit of a different approach by mixing a casual gaming and social worlds. We caught up with Chris Davis, a marketer for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/gaia-online/"><em>Gaia</em></a> who handles sponsorship accounts, at <a href="http://e3expo.com">E3</a> to discuss his game. He has his own unique take on MMOs and brand marketing, and how companies should interact with their potential customers. Chris describes why he believes mixing marketing and gaming is good for both the user and the brand.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/chris-davis-of-gaia-online-talks-mmo-marketing/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chris Davis of Gaia Online talks MMO marketing</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/chris-davis-of-gaia-online-talks-mmo-marketing/">Chris Davis of Gaia Online talks MMO marketing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 16 Jun 2010 12:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.soe.com">Sony Online Entertainment</a> <a href="http://eqvault.ign.com/fullstory.php?id=42558">reportedly bought</a> a "three-page advertising spread" for <a href="http://everquest.station.sony.com/"><em>EverQuest</em></a> in this month's issue of <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/pc">PC Gamer</a> magazine. The massive ad promotes the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/soes-living-legacy-campaign-gives-you-2-free-months-in-eq-and-e/">Living Legacy</a> campaign -- an initiative that allows former <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest"><em>EQ</em></a> and <em><a href="http://everquest2.station.sony.com/">EverQuest II</a> </em>subscribers to play for free until the end of July.<br /><br />In <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/everquests-senior-producer-and-designer-on-the-living-legacy/">two</a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/everquest-iis-senior-producer-on-the-living-legacy/">interviews</a>, reps from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/soe">SOE</a> told us that the Living Legacy initiative is intended to show lapsed and potential <em>EQ</em> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest-ii"><em>EQ2</em></a> players that both games have evolved over the years, and that they deserve a fresh look. A print ad is a bold statement, although new marketing pushes for old games are not unprecedented. <a href="http://www.neardeathstudios.com">Near Death Studios</a> bought ad space for <a href="http://www.meridian59.com"><em>Meridian 59</em></a> on the<a href="http://rpgvault.ign.com"> Vault Network</a> when the game relaunched in 2001 after a two year absence. <a href="http://ea.com">Electronic Arts</a> plastered the web with <a href="http://www.uoherald.com"><em>Ultima Online: Kingdom Reborn</em></a> ads in the wake its 3D graphics engine upgrade.<br /><br />But will it work? Should more old MMOs do it? Are advertizing blitzes and a couple of free months of play what MMOs of yore need, or does this industry move too fast for that to be sufficient? Commence pondering.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/soe-runs-first-everquest-magazine-ad-in-years/">SOE runs first EverQuest magazine ad in years</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 15:30:00 EST. The dominant business model in PC gaming largely ignores the possibilities of in-game transactions and ad-sponsored gameplay. <span style="font-style: italic;"> </span>St. John spoke on the need to pursue new gaming revenue models at the recent <a href="http://www.iongameconference.com/">ION Game Conference</a> in Seattle and more recently, at the 6th annual Wedbush Morgan Securities Management Access Conference in New York City. <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com">Gamasutra</a> followed St. John at <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=18685">both</a> <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=18754">events,</a> where the WildTangent CEO raised some eyebrows when he asserted,<span style="font-style: italic;">"In a few years any business not making money from ads is leaving half their money on the table."<br /><br /></span>According to St. John, the industry fixation on boxed sales will be the downfall of a number of companies that fail to change their business models and embrace in-game or in-world revenue streams. <span style="font-style: italic;">"There's a wide open opportunity here. Anybody can get into this, and everything the traditional publishers and game companies know about doing business will ensure their failure,"</span> he stated at ION.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/buy-this-box-for-60-or-go-to-hell/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Buy this box for $60 or go to hell</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/buy-this-box-for-60-or-go-to-hell/">Buy this box for $60 or go to hell</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 29 May 2008 13:30:00 EST. It shows a series of regular people getting ready for a busy day -- but from how they are preparing, it would appear that their busy day could be comprised of things like slaying dragons, saving villagers and traversing Middle-earth. We don't get to <em>see</em> any of this taking place in the real world, but there is some in-game footage in the second half that shows what it's all about.<br /><br />The end of the video provides a link to a promotional website, <a href="http://www.movetomiddle-earth.com">www.movetomiddle-earth.com</a>, which looks to give some background on the game and show a little more to those whose interest is piqued by the ad.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamebunny.com/?p=3386">Gamebunny</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/new-tv-spot-for-lotro-shows-ordinary-people-getting-their-mmo-on/">New TV spot for LotRO shows Ordinary People getting their MMO on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2008 01:00:00 EST. <br />Nexon seems to have recently launched a new US advertising campaign to promote <a href="http://maplestory.nexon.net/">MapleStory</a>, their free to play MMO. The campaign we've seen so far includes three different commercials (one of which you'll see above) which are, well, a bit odd. I can't say quite what demographic these commercials are aiming at, but perhaps you can tell me -- do they make you want to go out and play MapleStory? Oh, and if one example wasn't enough, you can also check out the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfi_tazQbLo">pig commercial</a> and the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU6gN7IcXAo">snail commercial</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/10/07/new-maplestory-commercials/">New MapleStory commercials</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 07 Oct 2007 11:03:00 EST.
