While some fledgling MMOs may act coy or hesitant about including user-created addons for their game, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/WildStar/"><em>WildStar</em></a> is going the opposite route <a href="http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/blog/wildstar_wednesday_yes_well_have_ui_addons.php">and embracing them full-on</a>. Lead Client Engineer <a href="http://www.carbinestudios.com/en/">Jon Wiesman</a> penned a dev blog explaining why <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/carbine">Carbine</a> is enthusiastically supporting addons for the game from launch.<br />
<br />
Wiesman previously worked at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest"><em>EverQuest's</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/verant/">Verant</a> and is currently the driving force behind <em>WildStar's </em>UI engine. He reports that not only will players be able to change the look and layout of the UI from the get-go, but <em>WildStar </em>will support Lua to allow for addons and mods.<br />
<br />
He assures potential players that creating such addons won't be a frustrating experience devoid of proper instruction and support: "If you can program at all, I promise you'll be able to make an addon for our game. Our commitment is to make sure the process is documented, clear, and accessible. Promise."<br />

So, I had planned to go back to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/14/the-mog-log-experiment-rhio/">my soloing experiment</a> from <a href="http://www.playonline.com"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a> this week, but two things got in the way. The first is named <a href="http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com"><em>Final Fantasy XIV</em></a>'s open beta, and I'm not going to start talking about that because I won't <em>stop</em>. The second, however, is the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/September-version-update/">September version update</a> and the fast-approaching end of that timeline we saw <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/event/vanafes2010/">back at VanaFest</a>. While I'm not wholly qualified to talk about everything in the version update at the moment, I can certainly talk about what comes after.<br />
<br />
And here's why: This is a significant update for the game. It's the last update before the release of <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XIV/">Final Fantasy XIV</a></em> later this month, it's the second stage in the level cap increase, and it's the second-to-last additional content that we know we're getting. And what it's doing for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XI/">Final Fantasy XI</a></em> says volumes about what's going to happen in the game in the coming months, as well as what we can hope for.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/11/the-mog-log-final-fantasy-xi-and-the-future/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Mog Log: Final Fantasy XI and the future</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/11/the-mog-log-final-fantasy-xi-and-the-future/">The Mog Log: Final Fantasy XI and the future</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 11 Sep 2010 12:00:00 EST. While there's quite a stir around <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/02/final-fantasy-xiv-open-beta-kicks-off/">the new open beta</a> for <a href="http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com"><em>Final Fantasy XIV</em></a>, there are some very big additions coming to <a href="http://www.playonline.com"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a> as well. <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/ex9/index.html"><em>Scars of Abyssea</em></a> is due to be released with the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/September-version-update/">September version update</a>, and lest players forget about it, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Square-Enix/">Square-Enix</a> has updated the teaser site. Not only does it include previews of the new Empyrean armor sets and a new trailer for the mini-expansion, it also offers us a predicted launch date for the update of September 8th.<br />
<br />
Although the chest pieces are not shown and it's a bit early to be sure, it does appear that most of the Empyrean Armor sets are the new Artifact pieces (an upgrade from the previous <a href="http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Relic_Armor">Relic Armor</a>). Combined with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/21/trial-of-the-magians-expands-in-final-fantasy-xi/">the coming upgrades to Trial of the Magians</a>, this armor set may become the norm for quite some time. Players can take a look at all of the coming attractions on <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/ex9/index.html">the official teaser site</a>, and the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XI/">Final Fantasy XI</a></em> update should be available early next week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/02/trailer-for-scars-of-abyssea-surfaces-for-final-fantasy-xi/">Trailer for Scars of Abyssea surfaces for Final Fantasy XI</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 02 Sep 2010 15:00:00 EST. It's safe to say that the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Abyssea/">Abyssea</a> add-ons got off to an excellent start in <a href="http://www.playonline.com"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a>. The first installment coupled excellent rewards with an excellent leveling format, with the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/June-version-update/">June version update's</a> level cap increase coinciding nicely. The second installment in the series of mini-expansions, <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/ex9/index.html"><em>Scars of Abyssea</em></a>, is scheduled to go live with the upcoming <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/September-version-update/">September version update</a> -- and as the first in what promises to be a string of previews, Square-Enix has <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/ex9/index.html">put together a teaser site</a> for the add-on.<br />
<br />
While it's hard to be certain from the screenshots, it looks as if the actual regions of Abyssea are going to continue on to other famous locales within Vana'diel on the Abyssean side of the coin. There are also some menacing new adversaries to face from the looks of it, and further expansion to the storyline of the mirror world. The <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/ex9/index.html">teaser site</a> also confirms that the add-on may be pre-purchased starting on August 23rd -- good news for the many <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XI/">Final Fantasy XI</a></em> players no doubt all ready to continue their dimension-hopping adventures.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/18/teaser-site-opens-for-final-fantasy-xis-scars-of-abyssea/">Teaser site opens for Final Fantasy XI's Scars of Abyssea</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 18 Aug 2010 23:00:00 EST. Mark the date: June 21st. If you're a <a href="http://www.playonline.com"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a> player, that's your currently planned patch day, and it promises to be quite a patch day at that. After all, it's the first time the level cap has been raised in almost forever, and the level raise brings with it more story, the uncapping of several <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Chains-of-Promathia/"><em>Chains of Promathia</em></a> areas, and more. It also brings with it the first of three add-on scenarios centering on Abyssea -- and to help whet your appetite, the trailer for <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/index.html">the first add-on</a> has just been released by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Square-Enix/">Square-Enix</a>.<br />
<br />
While there are no huge revelations regarding the storyline of the add-on, it would appear that there's a good reason why the pictures we've received for the scenario have so closely resembled existing zones. Could it be that, much like the recently added <a href="http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Category%3AVoidwalker_Notorious_Monsters">Voidwalker Notorious Monsters</a>, the first scenario will involve Abyssea coming to the adventurers rather than vice versa? We'll find out in a little under two weeks, with everything due to come together at that point. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Final-Fantasy-XI/"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a> players can also take the opportunity now to pre-purchase the scenario, with the content automatically unlocking during the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/June-version-update/">June version update</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/09/players-granted-a-vision-of-abyssea-for-final-fantasy-xi/">Players granted a vision of Abyssea for Final Fantasy XI</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 09 Jun 2010 09:00:00 EST. I love the ability to alter my gaming experience and change the way my user interface looks. They are great, free programs to change how you interact online whether to reduce annoyance, change how game features work or just to liven up your screen. Why wouldn't you want an MMO to have that ability?<br />
<br />
I've been hooked on addons since the <a href="http://us.runesofmagic.com/us/index.html"><em>Runes of Magic</em></a> community first started making them. I spend countless hours using them to tweak my user interface, on top of having ones that are actually functional. If you didn't know that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/runes-of-magic/"><em>RoM</em></a> supports addons or don't know which ones to try, then allow me to breakdown some of the more popular ones for you.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/12/lost-pages-of-taborea-runes-of-magic-addons/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lost Pages of Taborea: Runes of Magic addons</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/12/lost-pages-of-taborea-runes-of-magic-addons/">Lost Pages of Taborea: Runes of Magic addons</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 12 Apr 2010 16:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a>'s final new add-on adventure, <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/index.html#shantotto"><em>A Shantotto Ascension</em></a>, comes out the ninth of November. Should eight more days prove too long a delay, you might just be pleased at what we have to say. A new trailer, you see, has been <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/index.html#shantotto">put on the site</a>, with our dear professor in the center spotlight. And if you lacked apprehension regarding Shantotto, this new trailer may have you pull quite the reversal.<br />
<br />
The trailer makes mention of rituals demonic, a threat whose recurrence is horribly chronic -- but lest you assume that the danger's routine, you had best keep a watch on this unfolding scene. For Shantotto denies that she has lost her mind, and thinks herself flawless (or so she's opined). Yet all of the images that we see within leads us to believe something mad will begin -- and while we don't mean to drive players to terror, to not say the truth would be too much an error. For Shantotto seems poised upon something gigantic, and appears to enlarge to proportions titanic! If you've made <a href="http://www.playonline.com"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a> your home, be prepared to defend all the roots that you've sown. The release is still pending, but you may purchase today -- so <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/index.html#shantotto">go view the trailer</a>, no need to delay!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/11/01/final-fantasy-xis-a-shantotto-ascension-releases-new-trailer/">Final Fantasy XI's A Shantotto Ascension releases new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 01 Nov 2009 20:00:00 EST. Square-Enix has released the trailer for their next add-on pack for <a href="http://www.playonline.com"><span style="font-style: italic;">Final Fantasy XI</span></a>, <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/"><span style="font-style: italic;">A Moogle Kupo d'Etat</span></a>, and it's filled with moogle mayhem.<br /><br /><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/a-moogle-kupo-detat"><span style="font-style: italic;">A Moogle Kupo d'Etat</span></a> is focused on the story of a beat up old mog house, a moogle searching for love, and a curse. What these three things have in common we haven't the faintest, but our questions will be most certainly answered with the release of the add-on pack on July 20th, the same day as the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/july-version-update">July version update</a> for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/final-fantasy-xi"><em>FFXI</em></a>.<br /><br />Of note in the trailer, in addition to lots of moogles, is the appearance of <a href="http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Shantotto">Professor Shantotto</a>, the high standing Windurstian black mage. While this normally wouldn't mean anything special, her appearance in this add-on means that this story might somehow tie in with the next expansion pack, <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/addon/"><span style="font-style: italic;">A Shantotto Ascension</span></a>, which obviously focuses on her as a main character. Will the two packs be strung together? Decide for yourself, as we have the trailer available for your viewing after the break!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/10/final-fantasy-xi-add-on-pack-trailer-features-moogles-monsters/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Final Fantasy XI add-on pack trailer features moogles, monsters, and mayhem</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/07/10/final-fantasy-xi-add-on-pack-trailer-features-moogles-monsters/">Final Fantasy XI add-on pack trailer features moogles, monsters, and mayhem</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 10 Jul 2009 17:00:00 EST.
