Last week's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/GDC-2012/">GDC</a> came at a perfect time for <a href="http://trionworld.com">Trion</a>. The conference overlaps perfectly with <a href="http://riftgame.com"><em>RIFT's</em></a> one-year anniversary, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/adam-gershowitz/">Producer Adam Gershowitz</a> took us through some highlights of the past year as well as the current Carnival of the Ascended content. But he also gave a peek at what's planned for the future, not only showing off the new raid zone Infernal Dawn but also talking about the team's plans for some fan-favorites like the leaderboards, mentoring, and housing.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/rift-update-1-8/">Rift Update 1.8</a></strong></p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/rift-update-1-8/#4894837"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/riftid1-1331676677_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/rift-update-1-8/#4894839"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/riftid2-1331676678_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/rift-update-1-8/#4894840"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/riftid3-1331676680_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/rift-update-1-8/#4894841"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/riftid4-1331676681_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/photos/rift-update-1-8/#4894842"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/riftid5-1331676681_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/13/gdc-2012-rifts-adam-gershowitz-talks-raiding-mentoring-and-h/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GDC 2012: RIFT's Adam Gershowitz talks raiding, mentoring, and housing</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/13/gdc-2012-rifts-adam-gershowitz-talks-raiding-mentoring-and-h/">GDC 2012: RIFT's Adam Gershowitz talks raiding, mentoring, and housing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 13 Mar 2012 19:00:00 EST. This week on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/The-MMO-Report/">The MMO Report</a>, Casey caps off his <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Trion-Worlds/">Trion Worlds</a> tour by chatting up <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/RIFT/">RIFT's</a></em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Adam-Gershowitz/">Adam Gershowitz</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Adam-Hetenyi/">Adam Hetenyi</a>. Backed by enormous screens showing off the game's flashiest scenes, the two Adams discuss <em>RIFT's</em> upcoming 1.8 patch, giving previews of the goodies that will tempt hardcore endgamers in the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/trek-through-fire-and-flame-in-rifts-infernal-dawn-raid/">Infernal Dawn</a> raid (pro tip: Do not invite Maelforge to your birthday party). The pair also discuss the game's new skills -- fishing, trapping, and survival -- before teasing what players can look forward to after 1.8 has come and gone.<br />

	<div>
		<a href="http://www.massively.com/category/rift"><em>RIFT</em>'s</a> Carnival of the Ascended is in full-swing in Telara, but there's something dastardly dwelling under the veil of the festivities. While the Ascended feast, imbibe, and debauch, the less-than-phlegmatic cults of the Golden Maw and the Wanton scheme to free their dragon overlords from imprisonment in the upcoming raid, <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/infernal-dawn">Infernal Dawn</a>. But no Ascended should go up against the dragons unprepared, so <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/trion-worlds">Trion Worlds'</a> <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/adam-gershowitz">Adam Gershowitz</a> has volunteered to take players on a short tour of the Earth Wing of Infernal Dawn, where they will be tasked with destroying the Golden Maw, the Wanton, and ultimately their leaders: the earth dragon Laethys and the infernal Maelforge.<br />
		<br />
		Infernal Dawn isn't the only new feature in the works. Gershowitz also reveals that the studio is working on new Instant Adventures set on the Ember Isle. Less pugilistic players will be receiving some new treats as well in the form of new tradeskills. While Gershowitz doesn't reveal any specifics on what these new tradeskills will be, he does hint that they "may or may not involve bodies of water." We've been fishing for ideas all day, but we're just not getting any bites. Oh well, we'll find out soon enough! In the meantime, check out the full video tour and prepare yourselves; Infernal Dawn is planned to go live in "just a month or two." Oh, and remember: Former <em>RIFT</em> subscribers can play free starting today until March 14th, so if you wanna get back into the world of Telara, now's the time.<br />
		<br />
		And finally, be sure to keep an eye out for our own Karen Bryan's <em>RIFT</em> coverage straight from <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/gdc-2012">GDC 2012</a>, which will surely shed more light on these upcoming additions.</div>

<em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift/">RIFT</a></em> Live Producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Hal-Hanlin/">Hal Hanlin</a> and Systems Producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/adam-gershowitz/">Adam Gershowitz</a> were flagged down by fansite <a href="http://rift.magelo.com/en/news/38248/Trion-Devs-Talk-to-Magelo-about-Rift-in-Russia-and-More">Magelo</a> to tackle a grab bag of various questions about the game, including the process of injecting this title into the hearts of the Russian populace. According to Hanlin, the Russian release of <em>RIFT </em>was "very smooth," and he credits <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Trion-Worlds/">Trion Worlds'</a> partner in the region, GFI, with assisting in that.<br />
<br />
Even as itemization improvements continue to roll into <em>RIFT</em>, the devs state that they're constantly monitoring damage output. For the next patch, Warriors will see a buff to their DPS as attack power will be tweaked to boost the pain.<br />
<br />
Hanlin promises that "soloable content is very important to us" and pointed at the success of Instant Adventures and the Chronicles of Telara as proof that Trion has responded to the desire for such content in the game.<br />
<br />
The devs touch on small details from the recent patch and their vision for expert dungeons as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/06/rift-devs-on-russian-revolution-improved-itemization-and-solo/">RIFT devs on Russian revolution, improved itemization, and solo success</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 06 Feb 2012 16:00:00 EST. An unashamedly beardless <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Casey-Schreiner/">Casey Schreiner</a>* bookends a special (albeit late) edition of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/The-MMO-Report/">The MMO Report</a> this week, and it's all about <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/RIFT/">RIFT's</a></em> colossal 1.6 update. The Report features <em>RIFT</em> Producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Adam-Gershowitz/">Adam Gershowitz</a>, who declares that <em>RIFT</em> is now well-known for being "the MMO that updates the most" while discussing November's impending <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/From-the-Embers/">From the Embers</a> patch, <em>RIFT's</em> sixth major update and its largest to date. Gershowitz explains that the update inserts a massive new zone-playground for endgamers, the Ember Isle, complete with the new Rise of the Phoenix raid instance, the Caduceus Rise dungeon, the instant adventure "looking for quests" tool, and <em>RIFT's</em> first recurring holiday event, Fae Yule.<br />
<br />

<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trion">Trion</a> is one of many MMO companies gearing up for a big showing at this month's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamescom-2011">Gamescom</a>, and a new interview with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/adam-gershowitz">Adam Gershowitz</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/david-luehmann">David Luehmann</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/rob-hill">Rob Hill</a> lets fans in on what they can expect regarding the world of Telara.<br />
<br />
For starters, there will be a lot of lip service given to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift"><em>RIFT's</em></a> "Endgame for All" initiative, specifically the new Chronicle instances coming with the 1.5 patch. Gershowitz also mentions the Hammerknell weekend warfront and says its a way for Trion to "spice up the normal warfront grind" via new gameplay and additional rewards. Said new gameplay takes the form of a new mode called escalation, which is essentially the Telaran equivalent of capture-the-flag.<br />
<br />
The interview also touches on Trion's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/end-of-nations"><em>End of Nations</em></a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/defiance"><em>Defiance</em></a> titles, both of which will also be featured at Gamescom (though it's worth noting that <em>Defiance</em> will be restricted to industry previewers as Trion says the title "isn't quite ready for its player debut").<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/10/trion-details-rift-end-of-nations-and-defiance-plans-for-games/">Trion details RIFT, End of Nations, and Defiance plans for Gamescom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 10 Aug 2011 19:00:00 EST. Episode 23 of the <a href="http://www.riftgame.com/en/"><em>RIFT</em></a> Podcast is up for your listening pleasure, and its hosts, Arithion and Desikis, have a lot to talk about <a href="http://www.riftpodcast.com/podcast/2010/12/13/podcast-23-adam-gershowitz-on-beta-souls-combat-and-game-progress.html">this week</a>. Joining them are <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/trion-worlds/">Trion Worlds</a> senior community manager Cindy "Abigale" Bowens and producer Adam Gershowitz. Gershowitz has plenty to say over the course of the podcast, including info on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift"><em>RIFT's</em></a> soul system, global cooldowns, a brief recap of the first beta weekend (as well as objectives for the second), and tweaks to the title's invasion system.<br />
<br />
"<em>We're kind of going back, not to the drawing board per se, but we're kind of going back and refining our numbers. Really what our goal is with the invasions is to look at various areas of the game and various areas of the zone [...] and send the appropriate amount of content to that area when we launch an invasion</em>," Gershowitz explains.<br />

Featuring gameplay footage and interview snippets with producer Adam Gershowitz, the segment fills viewers in on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/rift"><em>Rift's</em></a> unique backstory as well as various dynamic gameplay features including, of course, the titular planar rifts.<br />
<br />
Gershowitz also goes into detail regarding the game's classes, including the ability to "<em>take a variety of different classes and mix them together [using] the ascended soul system</em>."<br />

Min/maxers in <a href="http://warhammeronline.com"><em>Warhammer Online</em></a> rejoice! <a href="http://massively.com/tag/adam-gershowitz">Adam Gershowitz</a>, producer of character systems stopped by the official forums <a href="http://forums.warhammeronline.com/warhammer/board/message?board.id=1-3_CCFD&amp;message.id=114#M">to clear up a bit of confusion about how stats work</a> in the current live game (1.21) and how they will work after the new patch (1.3) lands sometime in June.<br /><br />Specifically, he detailed the basic functions of offensive stats (strength, intelligence, and ballistics) versus the main defensive stat (toughness). There are three main reasons why <a href="http://mythicentertainment.com">Mythic</a> is making these adjustments. First, quicker and weaker attacks with special debuffs were doing more damage than intended. Second, AoE attacks were also doing more damage than intended. Third, boosting the effectiveness of toughness will encourage gear diversity, which goes hand in hand with <a href="http://www.keenandgraev.com/?p=2348">the new sigil system</a>.<br /><br />To see the nitty-gritty breakdown of how these stats will play against each other <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/warhammers-1-3-land-of-the-dead-public-test-has-begun/">in the new patch</a>, head on over to <a href="http://forums.warhammeronline.com/warhammer/board/message?board.id=1-3_CCFD&amp;message.id=114#M">the official forum discussion</a>. Make sure you read through all the pages as Adam responds several times with additional information. He hints that there may be upcoming changes to how weaponskill affects parry, block, and dodge as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/05/24/developer-reveals-how-stats-work-in-war/">Developer reveals how stats work in WAR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 24 May 2009 13:00:00 EST. While the patch number suggests this won't be a major patch, the highlights suggest otherwise.<br /><br />Most people agree the biggest issue on <a href="http://mythicentertainment.com/">Mythic</a>'s plate right now is combat responsiveness. Currently, players experience a sigificant "stretch" or "pause" when executing longer duration abilities (animation glitches don't help matters either). Mark says this issue will be fixed in under "normal" gameplay conditions, but may still exist to a degree under high server load.<br /><br />Other items of note are improvements to the keep siege system that will allow guilds who claim keeps to upgrade their defenses, a <a href="http://massively.com/tag/land-of-the-dead">Beyond the Sands</a> live event, more bug fixes, and special versions of the Gates of Ekrund and Nordenwatch scenarios.<br /><br />The balance issue with stacked ground target area of effect damage spells introduced in the previous patch is not touched upon in Mark's highlights, but <a href="http://massively.com/tag/adam-gershowitz">Adam Gershowitz</a> made a post on the <a href="http://forums.warhammeronline.com/warhammer/board/message?board.id=archetype_ranged&amp;thread.id=416">Ranged Damage Dealers forum detailing the changes</a> coming in 1.21. Darryl Gangloff of <a href="http://allakhazam.com">Allakhazam</a> made the trip to <a href="http://nycomiccon.com">New York Comic Con</a> last weekend and <a href="http://www.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=16875">got the inside scoop</a> on what <a href="http://mythicentertainment.com">Mythic</a> has planned for <em><a href="http://warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a></em> in the near future. He caught up with Associate Art Director, <a href="http://massively.com/tag/adam-gershowitz/">Adam Gershowitz</a>, who walked him through new features such as the <a href="http://massively.com/tag/slayer/">Slayer</a> and <a href="http://massively.com/choppa/">Choppa</a>, <a href="http://massively.com/tag/bitter-rivals/">Bitter Rivals</a> live event, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2009/01/29/the-dwarf-slayer-and-orc-choppa-coming-to-warhammer-online-with/">Twisting Tower</a> RvR scenario, new guild reward mounts, and much more.<br /><br /><a href="http://massively.com/tag/nycc-2009/">NYCC</a> attendees were given the opportunity to try out in-development alpha Slayers and Choppas, which seemed to have the desired effect of whipping them up into a frenzy. The three Choppa masteries will be Path of Da Savage (straightforward mixed path), Path of Da Hitta (focusing on single target spike damage), and Path of Da Wrecka (focusing on high level beserk and AoE attacks). The Slayer will share similar mechanics to the Choppa and will boast many customization options including at least seven different mohawk styles and a number of body tattoos. Both careers are intended to have a more simple playstyle than some of <a href="http://massively.com/category/warhammer-online/"><em>WAR</em></a>'s other careers. Yesterday, just a day before <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/warhammer-online-patch-1-1a-goes-live/">this morning's announcement of the 1.1a patch</a> to <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.warhammeronline.com">Warhammer Online</a>, we had the chance to speak with some of the leading lights in the Warhammer development process. Adam Gershowitz, Associate Producer Josh Drescher, and Designer Brian Wheeler laid out the ins and outs of Realm vs. Realm changes in our discussion. <br /><br />Said Josh Drescher,<span style="font-style: italic;"> "The core philosophy for 1.1 as regards RvR is to guarantee you a rewarding time in open field combat. It should be just as rewarding as spending an hour anywhere else in the game. We want to address the problem where players would want to participate in open RvR, but had limited time and felt they would be better rewarded in a Scenario. We were specifically addressing that in this update this time around."</span><br /><br />Read on below the cut for our full discussion.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/warhammer-developers-weigh-in-on-1-1a-rvr-changes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Warhammer developers weigh in on 1.1a RvR changes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/warhammer-developers-weigh-in-on-1-1a-rvr-changes/">Warhammer developers weigh in on 1.1a RvR changes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 11 Dec 2008 07:30:00 EST. Our lengthy discussion with the two <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com" style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</a> designers resulted in our in-depth analysis of (at that point) <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/massively-goes-to-war-the-classes-of-warhammer-in-a-nutshell/">every class slated for the game</a>. Last week at E3 our discussion with the two gentlemen turned to the removal of four of those classes, as well as four of the slated <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/massively-goes-to-war-exploring-warhammers-capital-cities/">endgame capital cities</a>.<br /><br />The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/mark-jacobs-announces-major-features-cut-from-warhammer-online/">announcement of that content removal</a> has been a sore point for some members of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online" style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer</a> community, but Drescher and Gershowitz were adamant that it was the best decision for the game. We talk in-depth with the two about why the content was removed, how the decision was made, and what the designers are going to do with the time they've freed up for themselves. Oh, and they're firm: EA had nothing to do with it. <span style="font-style: italic;">"EA has supported us this entire time, and it's really not EA pressure that led to this decision. What you've got to realize is that we're making a giant game. It's very expansive and it has a lot of features. We could easily fall into the trap of 'forever making the game'."</span><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/e308-warhammers-designers-explain-the-career-city-removal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E308: Warhammer's designers explain the career/city removal</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/e308-warhammers-designers-explain-the-career-city-removal/">E308: Warhammer's designers explain the career/city removal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 21 Jul 2008 14:15:00 EST. During our huge <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/massively-goes-to-war-wrap-up/">Massively goes to WAR feature spread</a> earlier this year, we had the chance to tour the Chaos home base, and came away impressed. Last week we got the chance to see an updated version of the capital, and learned about what the extra time <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/mark-jacobs-announces-major-features-cut-from-warhammer-online/">removing the other capitals</a> has netted the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mythic-entertainment">Mythic Entertainment</a> development team. Read on to hear Adam Gershowitz talk about city improvements, the endgame reward cycle, and how the two-cities structure has focused the player experience.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Adam Gershowitz:</span> Inevitable City is one of the two capital cities we're going to launch with. It has gotten bigger and better than it was previously. That's part of the reason why we're down to two capital cities - we keep throwing more and more stuff into the existing ones. It got to the point where we were like, "Well crud, just Altdorf and Inevitable City have as much content as we originally planned for all three city pairings. So we kind of wanted to finish the job, to make sure it's really really top-notch so we're focusing down a little bit more. What that does is it actually changes the campaign up a little bit.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/e308-exploring-an-improved-inevitable-city-in-warhammer-online/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E308: Exploring an improved Inevitable City in Warhammer Online</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/e308-exploring-an-improved-inevitable-city-in-warhammer-online/">E308: Exploring an improved Inevitable City in Warhammer Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 21 Jul 2008 11:15:00 EST. Even just two months after our huge <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/massively-goes-to-war">Massively goes to WAR</a> series, there were new elements to view and discuss. We'll get you that information as soon as we can, but we wanted to share what might have been the biggest surprise of our chat: essentially everything that will be in the game at launch is now in the game. <br /><br />Said Mr. Gershowitz, <em>"Basically where we're at right now is the guild Beta. There for a tour of <em><a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/">Warhammer Online</a> </em>in its entirety, we'd already covered the innovative <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/massively-goes-to-war-spotlight-on-the-dwarven-engineer/">Engineer</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/massively-goes-to-war-spotlight-on-the-goblin-shaman/">Shaman</a> classes. The morning was quickly running out, and to compensate for the sheer amount of information we needed to pile through our demonstrators went into overdrive. For roughly an hour we moved quickly from class to class, visiting the highpoints of several different types of gameplay. Much of our discussion explored the karmic doppelgangers across classes; different races entirely that share similar roles or playstyles.<br /><br />As our weeklong series - <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/massively-goes-to-war">Massively goes to WAR</a> - rolls on, read below for crunchy game details on every single class in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online">Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning</a></em>. At the end of the piece, check out the designers' take on why the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/wars-must-have-expansion-races-skaven/">Skaven</a> (among other races) aren't in the game. And, if you're a fan of the recently announced White Lion class, make doubly sure to look below, because we have a few great details that should make you very, very well pleased ...<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/massively-goes-to-war-the-classes-of-warhammer-in-a-nutshell/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively goes to WAR: Every Warhammer class explained</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/massively-goes-to-war-the-classes-of-warhammer-in-a-nutshell/">Massively goes to WAR: Every Warhammer class explained</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 04 Jun 2008 14:30:00 EST. After giving us a high level overview of all the classes (which you'll see here on the site later today), there was a few moments left over for personal favorites. At Josh's urging, Adam logged into a Chaos Marauder to show off the mutational fury of that faction's front line. This melee warrior's capabilities are predicated on the internal darkness that boils into his skin, malforms his limbs, and gives him the capability to cause massive amounts of damage.<br /><br />His karmic doppelganger, the High Elf Shadow Warrior, is likely to get played more just by virtue of elven popularity. Still, the Marauder's place in the <em><a href="http://www.massivley.com/category/warhammer-online">Warhammer</a></em> world has its own horrific charm. Read on for details on their meat clubs, axe hands, and the aptly-named 'Wave of Horror.'<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/massively-goes-to-war-spotlight-on-the-marauder/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively goes to WAR: Spotlight on the Chaos Marauder</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/massively-goes-to-war-spotlight-on-the-marauder/">Massively goes to WAR: Spotlight on the Chaos Marauder</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 04 Jun 2008 11:30:00 EST. For example, did you know that the user interface for every class in the game has been given a complete makeover? Not only will every class receive a neat widgety component (ala the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/massively-goes-to-war-spotlight-on-the-goblin-shaman/">Goblin Shaman's Mork n' Gork heads</a>), but the bar itself is themed to the class's role.<br /><br />The action bar for the Dwarven Engineer, as you might imagine, is a sight to see. This defensive ranged specialist is a unique addition to the MMO landscape. And yet, we couldn't help but feel the stunty's gameplay was incredibly familiar somehow. In fact, the experience of playing an Engineer in <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online">Warhammer Online</a></em> bears a lot of resemblance to that of the <a href="http://www.weblogsinc.com/tag/team-fortress-2" style="font-style: italic;">Team Fortress 2</a> Engineer. If the little dwarf had complained <em>"Spies sappin' ma sentry!"</em> it would hardly have been surprising. Read on below for more on this highly skilled specialist ... and a few words about the Chaos Magus all the way at the end.<br /><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/massively-goes-to-war-spotlight-on-the-dwarven-engineer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Massively goes to WAR: Spotlight on the Dwarven Engineer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/massively-goes-to-war-spotlight-on-the-dwarven-engineer/">Massively goes to WAR: Spotlight on the Dwarven Engineer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 03 Jun 2008 15:30:00 EST. Sitting down with Josh Drescher and Adam Gershowitz to discuss the classes in <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com" style="font-style: italic;">Warhammer Online</a> is somewhat like getting to sit next to the director during a feature film. They're so intimately tied to the game that every race, class, and locale in the game has an associated story. We had the chance to get the director's commentary straight from the source, and the result is a wealth of knowledge about the 24 different in-game classes.<br />
<br />
The first class we took for a tour was the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/search/?q=Goblin%20Shaman">Goblin Shaman</a>, the healer/DoT specialist for the greenskin race. Though nothing was said beforehand, the tiny gobbos with the big sticks are this blogger's favorite class. It was therefore especially enjoyable to check out the numerous tweaks to the concept, look, and UI of the little healer. It's not hard to see, or hear, and yesterday we had the opportunity to listen in as <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/warhammer-online/">Warhammer</a></em>'s leading lights chatted about their favorite subject. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ea-mythic/">EA Mythic</a> participated in a conference call aiming to update fans and press alike with the latest news of their much-anticipated title. The team went through a slew of general questions, fleshing out our understanding of the features coming with the game's fall release.
