As MMO players surely know by now, <a href="http://heartofthorns.guildwars2.com"><em>Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns</em></a> is the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2015/01/24/guild-wars-2s-heart-of-thorns-expansion/">first expansion ever</a> for the <a href="http://arena.net">ArenaNet</a> MMORPG. In fact, most everyone suspected the announcement thanks to the leaked trademark information. But that didn't stop fans from being excited about it, nor did that bit of information satisfy their hunger.<br />
<br />
The emcee for the reveal event was none other than voice actor <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jennifer-hale/">Jennifer Hale</a>, whose voice players might recognize as Queen Jennah's. President and CEO of ArenaNet <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mike-obrien/">Mike O'Brien</a> and game director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/colin-johanson/">Colin Johanson</a> teased the<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/pax-south-2015/"> PAX South</a> crowd of over 1,500 fans waiting in the main theater. But the anticipation for the new expansion started well before anyone even came to the stage.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2015/01/24/pax-south-2015-the-guild-wars-2-heart-of-thorns-experience/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PAX South 2015: The Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns experience</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2015/01/24/pax-south-2015-the-guild-wars-2-heart-of-thorns-experience/">PAX South 2015: The Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns experience</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 24 Jan 2015 21:00:00 EST. Today's edition of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/Flameseeker-Chronicles/">Flameseeker Chronicles</a> is a little bit special. We've got the teaser trailer for <a href="https://www.guildwars2.com/en/"><em>Guild Wars 2</em>'s</a> next <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/living-world/">living world</a> release, The Dragon's Reach: Part One. We've got some sweet screenshots provided by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arenanet/">ArenaNet</a> to feast your peepers on: aw, yeah. And if that's not enough, I got the chance to chat with Associate Game Director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Steven-Waller/">Steven Waller</a> about next week's episode. Check out the video, and then read on!<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/07/22/flameseeker-chronicles-introducing-guild-wars-2s-dragons-reac/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Flameseeker Chronicles: Introducing Guild Wars 2's Dragon's Reach</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/07/22/flameseeker-chronicles-introducing-guild-wars-2s-dragons-reac/">Flameseeker Chronicles: Introducing Guild Wars 2's Dragon's Reach</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 22 Jul 2014 09:00:00 EST. When I look back at a year of <a href="https://www.guildwars2.com/en/"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a><em> </em>releases, one thing stands out to me: I really like <a href="http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Kasmeer">Kasmeer</a>, <a href="http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Braham">Braham</a>, <a href="http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Marjory">Marjory</a> and <a href="http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rox">Rox</a>, and I'm not alone. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arenanet/">ArenaNet's</a> four newest iconic heroes have remained steadfastly popular in the midst of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/12/10/flameseeker-chronicles-the-trouble-with-scarlet-in-guild-wars-2/">other criticism</a> of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2/"><em>GW2</em>'s</a> living story. They're not <em>universally</em> popular -- no character is -- but you can usually count on their dialogue and characterization prompting appreciative threads and analysis. At the start of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/tower-of-nightmares/">Tower of Nightmares release</a>, a few of my friends even linked to a forum post that theorized that Kasmeer might die (she didn't), and were deeply concerned until <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Wintersday-2013/">Wintersday</a> came around. "ANet had better not," one of them said heatedly. "If Kas or Jory die, I'll quit."<br />
<br />
While the iconics of the personal story and dungeon story modes, <a href="http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Destiny%27s_Edge">Destiny's Edge</a>, have their fans, I've never heard anyone threaten to uninstall if one of them shuffles off to the Mists, even after a long history and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/12/24/discussing-guild-wars-2-iconic-characters-with-author-j-robert/">a novel</a> dedicated to their exploits. I think the main reason is that it's a lot easier to respect characters and want to be around them when you aren't left feeling like the only adult in the room.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/12/24/flameseeker-chronicles-why-guild-wars-2-shouldnt-replicate-des/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Flameseeker Chronicles: Why Guild Wars 2 shouldn't replicate Destiny's wedge</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/12/24/flameseeker-chronicles-why-guild-wars-2-shouldnt-replicate-des/">Flameseeker Chronicles: Why Guild Wars 2 shouldn't replicate Destiny's wedge</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 24 Dec 2013 12:00:00 EST. When <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2/"><em>Guild Wars 2's</em></a> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/04/10/guild-wars-2-is-now-available-for-pre-purchase/">pre-purchase program</a> started two days ago, scores of fans descended upon their local retailers looking to secure one of its few, highly desired collector's editions. For those fortunate enough to grab one, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arenanet">ArenaNet</a> <a href="http://www.arena.net/blog/inside-the-collectors-edition-rytlock-figurine">has posted an inside look</a> at the centerpiece of the CE: the Rytlock Brimstone statue.<br />
<br />
While the team considered statues of each of the races, it decided that the Charr was the most iconic and worthy of star treatment. ArenaNet partnered up with Canada's Happy Worker to fashion the detailed statue that shows Rytlock with his flaming blade, standing over a field of skulls. The heavy statue is 10 inches tall and painstakingly hand-painted.<br />
<br />
If you're still attempting to hunt down a collector's edition of <em>Guild Wars 2</em>, head over to <a href="https://buy.guildwars2.com/retailers">the pre-purchase page</a> on the official site for the list of retailers in your country.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/04/12/arenanet-shows-the-making-of-guild-wars-2s-collectors-edition/">ArenaNet shows the making of Guild Wars 2's collector's edition statue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 12 Apr 2012 10:00:00 EST. Things are just getting more and more exciting for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2"><em>Guild Wars 2</em></a> fans. Since <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arenanet/">ArenaNet</a>'s blog post <a href="http://www.arena.net/blog/dragon">confirming a 2012 launch</a>, things seem to be warming up: We've had a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/20/massivelys-guild-wars-2-closed-beta-impressions/">press beta</a>, an intensely busy <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/27/guild-wars-2-beta-signups-peaked-at-4-000-a-minute/">beta signup period</a>, the promise of another late March beta, and now an announcement about <em>Guild Wars 2</em> pre-purchase. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft/">NCsoft</a> sent out a press release today with some juicy details regarding the game's Collector's Edition and the benefits of <a href="https://buy.guildwars2.com/">purchasing early</a>.<br />
<br />
From April 10th onward, pre-purchasers of any of the editions (Collector's, Digital Deluxe, or Standard) will be guaranteed access into beta weekend events <em>and </em>a three-day head start for launch, which is awesome if you want to reserve a cool name so you're not stuck with being xLegolasXx. An additional benefit to any pre-purchase is the somewhat mysterious Hero's Band, which will apparently give characters a variety of power boosts to speed them on their way.<br />
<br />
The Collector's Edition is going to cost you $149.99, but ArenaNet certainly seems to be providing bang for your buck: a 10-inch statue of the iconic Rytlock Brimstone and his sword Sohothin, a custom frame with five <em>Guild Wars 2 </em>art prints, a book on the making of <em>Guild Wars 2</em>, a soundtrack CD, and five in-game items (including a mini Rytlock), all of which should make this a pretty tempting order for super fans of the game. The Digital Deluxe pre-purchase is only going to run you $79.99, and the Standard Edition will be $59.99 -- again, any three of those will secure you the Hero's Band, a place in beta events, and a three-day head start. Pre-ordering <em>Guild Wars 2 </em>from select retailers will reserve you a copy of the game at launch and entitle you to a one-day head start.<br />

Looking for a last-minute Christmas gift for that discerning <a href="http://guildwars.com"><em>Guild Wars</em></a> fan on your list? <a href="http://arena.net">ArenaNet</a> may have just the thing in the newly released <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Wars-Edge-Destiny-ebook/dp/B003VPWXLU/ref=dp_kinw_strp_1?ie=UTF8&amp;m=AG56TWVU5XWC2"><em>Edge of Destiny</em></a>, the second novel tie-in to the popular gaming franchise. Penned by J. Robert King, the book takes place prior to the events chronicled in the original <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars"><em>Guild Wars</em></a> novel, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/15/guild-wars-ghosts-of-ascalon-impressions-from-a-lore-nerd/"><em>Ghosts of Ascalon</em></a>, and approximately five years before <a href="http://www.guildwars2.com/"><em>Guild Wars 2's</em></a> time frame.<br />
<br />
The novel features the exploits of an adventuring company that you'll meet in the new game, including Rytlock Brimstone (a charr warrior), Snaff (an asura inventor), and Caithe (a mysterious sylvari). You can grab a copy of the novel on Amazon, or sample the first chapter at the official <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arenanet">ArenaNet</a> blog.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/12/23/arenanet-releases-edge-of-destiny-guild-wars-novel/">ArenaNet releases Edge of Destiny Guild Wars novel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 23 Dec 2010 11:00:00 EST.
