	<em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/city-of-heroes">City of Heroes</a></em> <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/freedom">Freedom</a></em> has been going strong for some time now, and <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/paragon-studios">Paragon Studios</a> seems understandably pleased with the game's F2P transition. In the latest producer's letter on the official City of Heroes site, executive producer <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/brian-clayton">Brian Clayton</a> states that "the <em>Freedom </em>initiative and <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/issue-21">Issue 21</a>: Convergence have significantly increased our active player base and our revenues, and have invigorated our game with amazing new content including monthly Signature Stories, weekly items in the Paragon Market, Paragon Rewards, a kickin' Halloween event, and plenty more!"<br />
	<br />
	Clayton also speaks about the Fall Player Summit the studio held on November 19th. During the gathering, the team took the time to listen to players about what they liked and disliked about <em>Freedom </em>so far. In addition, artist extraordinaire <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/david-nakayama">David Nakayama</a> hosted a Create a Costume Set panel, in which he worked collaboratively with players to create the Retro Sci-Fi costume set, which will be introduced to the game sometime next year. <div>
	<a href="http://www.paragonstudios.com/">Paragon Studios</a> has released a very special Intrepid Informer for <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> players today, giving them a look into the new-player tutorial that will arrive with the advent of <em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/city-of-heroes">City of Heroes Freedom</a>.</em> In true superhero fashion, the new tutorial will incorporate a hand-drawn comic book by <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/paragon-studios">Paragon</a>'s own <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/david-nakayama">David "Noble Savage" Nakayama</a>.<br />
	<br />
	The game will open by dropping new players smack in the middle of Galaxy City as it falls under siege by Shivan invaders. The villains of the Rogue Isles -- opportunists that they are -- aim to take advantage of the chaos to cause mayhem while the heroes work to thwart the threats to the city. The full post details the process that went into creating this exciting new tutorial and also includes a sneak-preview of Nakayama's stylish comic work, which players will see prior to the tutorial proper. To read up on all the fine details of the game's new introduction, head on over to <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/news_archive/the_intrepid_informer_special.html">the official <em>CoH</em> site</a>.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/29/city-of-heroes-intrepid-informer-introduces-new-freedom-tutoria/">City of Heroes' Intrepid Informer introduces new Freedom tutorial</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 29 Jun 2011 17:30:00 EST. If you're planning to attend the <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/comic-con">San Diego Comic-Con</a> next month, and if you happen to be a fan of <a href="http://www.guildwars.com"><em>Guild Wars</em></a> or <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a>, then <a href="http://us.ncsoft.com/en/">NCsoft</a> wants you to swing by its booth while you're in the neighborhood. Attendees will be able "<em>to meet artists and developers from </em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/city-of-heroes-freedom">City of Heroes Freedom</a><em> and </em><a href="http://www.massively.com/category/guild-wars-2">Guild Wars 2</a><em>.</em>" <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a> will be giving the latest news on <em>City of Heroes</em>' <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/21/a-new-experience-is-launching-for-city-of-heroes-freedom/">recently announced</a> free-to-play transition as well as giving fans the opportunity to take <em>Guild Wars 2</em>'s <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/19/guild-wars-2s-explosive-seventh-class-the-engineer/">Engineer class</a> for a spin. In addition to all of that, <em>City of Heroes'</em> <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/desdemona">Desdemona</a> will be making appearances at the booth while <em>City of Heroes</em> comic artist <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/david-nakayama">David "Noble Savage" Nakayama </a>whips up free illustrations of selected <em>CoH</em> players' characters. The artists of <em>Guild Wars 2</em> will also be present to sign limited-edition postcard art books.<br />
	<br />
	But of course the party doesn't stop at the convention; NCsoft's Fan Meet &amp; Greet takes place Friday the 22nd. Fans will have to check the <a href="http://us.ncsoft.com/en/events/comic-con-2011.html#schedule">NCsoft schedule</a> for details on how to acquire tickets as it is a ticketed event, but those fortunate enough to attend will have the privilege of rubbing elbows with <em>CoH</em> and <em>GW2</em> developers and artists. And of course, fans will be afforded the opportunity to go hands-on with <em>City of Heroes Freedom</em> and <em>Guild Wars 2</em>. For more information, check out <a href="http://us.ncsoft.com/en/events/comic-con-2011.html">the official announcement</a> and <a href="http://us.ncsoft.com/en/events/comic-con-2011.html#schedule">NCsoft's Comic-Con schedule</a>.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/24/ncsoft-announces-san-diego-comic-con-events-and-schedule/">NCsoft announces San Diego Comic-Con events and schedule</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 24 Jun 2011 10:00:00 EST. It's the end of the convention season, and <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> fans on the East Coast managed to get one last treat -- another chance with the development team that had long been anchored firmly on the other side of the country. The team's <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/28/pax-east-2010-city-of-heroes-panel-reveals-many-things/">panel in March</a> at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/PAX-East-2010/">PAX East</a> saw the revelation of several new facts about the game, including the first announcement of Kinetic Melee and Electric Control, and the panel that closes out the year at <a href="http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/">New York Comic Con</a> contained several interesting new facts as well.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Melissa-Bianco/">Melissa Bianco</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/David-Nakayama/">David Nakayama</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Jesse-Caceres/">Jesse Caceres</a> were all in attendance, with the panel overseen by community representative <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Tia-Parurahi/">Tia Parurahi</a>. With <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/goingrogue"><em>Going Rogue</em></a> having been out for nearly two months, this panel focused on the upcoming <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Issue-19/">Issue 19</a> and what the changes mean for the game, as well as how much the development team is ramping up production to improve the game all around.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/10/10/nycc-2010-the-city-of-heroes-issue-19-panel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NYCC 2010: The City of Heroes Issue 19 panel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/10/10/nycc-2010-the-city-of-heroes-issue-19-panel/">NYCC 2010: The City of Heroes Issue 19 panel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 10 Oct 2010 17:00:00 EST. In a day and age when brand-new MMOs can run into serious trouble <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/realtime-worlds-enters-administration/">within the first few months following launch</a>, it's remarkable to consider that <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/en.html"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> has endured the test of time, studio transitions and competition, and still be running strong in the grand old year of 2010. Recently, the folks at Paragon Studios <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/6031/city_of_heroes_secrets_to_six_.php">sat down with Gamasutra</a> to celebrate <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/city-of-heroes"><em>CoH's</em></a> six-year milestone, and pontificate on why the title succeeded when others failed.<br />
<br />
Senior producer Jesse Caceres and art lead David Nakayama shared particular pride in how <em>CoH </em>has grown and adapted over the years. One of the examples they cite is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/ultra-mode-new-powersets-and-new-issue-coming-to-city-of-heroe/">their recent "Ultra Mode" upgrade</a> to the graphics engine, which allows players to pump up the pretty visuals that would've been all but impossible in 2004. Another reason for their success, according to the pair, is that the team worked hard to provide gamers with play choices, such as the ability to roll a villain or to create their own adventures through the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/mission-architect/">Mission Architect system</a>.<br />
<br />
Caceres has an additional idea regarding the game's longevity: its community. <em>"I don't know if it's just the nature of our game or what, but our community is very mature... I think that kind of back-and-forth and that discourse that we have with our player base is one of the reasons why we have such a dedicated following."</em><br />

While dates have been thrown left and right for the upcoming expansion, <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> players will be happy to know that the much-awaited expansion, <em><a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/goingrogue">Going Rogue</a>,</em> will officially release on August 17th, 2010. That leaves a little under two months until all of the promised features, including two more powersets, a new starting experience, the ability to switch sides, and the start of the new Incarnate system. Although it's a bit later than the previously-rumored date of July, players can still look forward to the fact that it's not so very far in the future.<br />
<br />
Can't wait that long? If you're going to the inimitable <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/cci/">San Diego Comic Con</a> this year, you're in luck, as the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/City-of-Heroes/">City of Heroes</a></em> team will be granting lucky players a hands-on experience for the expansion. Not only that, but they'll be hosting a panel and the equally inimitable <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/David-Nakayama/">David Nakayama</a> will be sketching select heroes and villains. Keep your eyes peeled for more news regarding <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Going-Rogue/">Going Rogue</a></em> as we approach release, and take a look at <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/news_archive/city_of_heroes_at_san_diego_co_2.html">the official itinerary</a> for the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Paragon-Studios/">Paragon Studios</a> team at SDCC.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/22/city-of-heroes-announces-going-rogue-release-date-and-hands-on-a/">City of Heroes announces Going Rogue release date and hands-on at SDCC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 22 Jun 2010 13:00:00 EST. They've got an anniversary coming up, but no one can accuse the team over at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Paragon-Studios/">Paragon Studios</a> of resting on their laurels. The studio responsible for <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> is hard at work on the next major content update, several anniversary celebrations, and they're still stopping to reach out to their fans.<br />
<br />
In not very much time at all, it will be time for a live chat with the development team of <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/City-of-Heroes/">City of Heroes</a></em> via their <a href="http://www.forumspring.me">forumspring.me</a> page. A few fans submitted questions to us, and we passed along three of them to the development team -- but that doesn't mean that there's no chance of getting other questions to reach their ears.<br />
<br />
So hurry on over to the <a href="http://www.formspring.me/askcohteam"><em>City of Heroes</em> question submission page</a>, fire off the best question you can think of (after enabling JavaScript if you've got it turned off), and keep your eyes peeled for all of the answers. With <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Melissa-Bianco/">Melissa Bianco</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Matt-Miller/">Matt Miller</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Jesse-Caceres/">Jesse Caceres</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/David-Nakayama/">David Nakayama</a> all fielding the questions, there's sure to be some interesting information to be had.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/23/reminder-city-of-heroes-developer-chat-today/">Reminder: City of Heroes developer chat today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Fri, 23 Apr 2010 18:30:00 EST. If you missed out on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/PAX-East/">PAX East</a>, you missed the chance to twist the ear of the development team for <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a>. (And other things, probably.) Or, at least, you missed your chance for a little while. Because the team is giving the fans <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/news_archive/coh_developer_qa_friday_april.html">another shot at connecting with them live</a>, even if it's not in person. Using the <a href="http://www.formspring.me/">forumspring.me</a> tool, which has been steadily growing in popularity over the past several months, players will be able to ask questions of the development team and have them answered in more-or-less real time.<br />
<br />
The actual session will take place on April 23rd between 4 and 5 PM PST (7-8 PM EST). <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Melissa-Bianco/">Melissa Bianco</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Matt-Miller/">Matt Miller</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/David-Nakayama/">David Nakayama</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Jesse-Caceres/">Jesse Caceres</a> will all be in attendance, the same team from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/28/pax-east-2010-city-of-heroes-panel-reveals-many-things/">the PAX East panel</a> and the brain trust behind the newest content additions. If you can't or don't want to take part in the actual questioning, the highlights will be addressed on the game's official <a href="http://www.facebook.com">Facebook</a> fan page. It's an excellent chance for <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/City-of-Heroes/">City of Heroes</a></em> players to get answers to their most urgent questions, so <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/news_archive/coh_developer_qa_friday_april.html">mark the date on your calendar</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/04/18/city-of-heroes-hosting-a-live-qanda-with-developers/">City of Heroes hosting a live Q&amp;A with developers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 18 Apr 2010 20:00:00 EST. Unpacking the <a href="http://www.cityofheroes.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a> panel at <a href="http://www.paxsite.com/">PAX East</a> is a big deal: there were huge amounts of information being thrown around, and a lot of new pieces of information to process. For that matter, there was far more than anyone expected, with information about the full spread of new issues up to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Issue-19/">Issue 19</a> and the reveal of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Matt-Positron-Miller/">Matt "Positron" Miller</a>'s heretofore unrevealed new endgame system. The panel as a whole featured a huge breadth of information about the game from concept into the future, and was filled with people long before the official start time, with fans vocally professing their adoration for the team the whole way through.<br />
<br />
We had the good fortune to be front and center at the theatre, and once we started taking notes we didn't really stop until the event was over. At the panel were lead designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Melissa-Bianco/">Melissa Bianco</a>, former lead designer and current lead system designer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Matt-Miller/">Matt Miller</a>, art lead <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/David-Nakayama/">David Nakayama</a>, and development producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Jesse-Caceres/">Jesse Caceres</a>. They opened off with a discussion of the game's history from launch back in 2004 to the present. The changeover from Cryptic to Paragon Studios was discussed in brief, mentioning that four of the major launch employees (Miller, Bianco, CW Bennet, and Brian Clayton) were still with Paragon even after the change.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/28/pax-east-2010-city-of-heroes-panel-reveals-many-things/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PAX East 2010: City of Heroes panel reveals many things</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/28/pax-east-2010-city-of-heroes-panel-reveals-many-things/">PAX East 2010: City of Heroes panel reveals many things</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sun, 28 Mar 2010 20:00:00 EST. Comics artist <a href="http://www.davidnakayama.com/">David Nakayama</a>, who has done an immense amount of work for <a href="http://www.drawtheworldtogether.com/">Draw the World Together</a>, has joined the NCsoft NorCal team as a concept artist for <a href="http://www.coh.com"><em>City of Heroes</em></a>. The official announcement was made at HeroCon, where David was also making character sketches for the lucky contest winners.<br /><br />David's no stranger to the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/cox"><em>CoX</em></a> universe, having drawn several of the comics that came out as accompaniment to the MMO and worked on art for the trading card game. His recent work also includes projects for Marvel Comics, including an upcoming series written by Chris Claremont. The addition of a concept artist of David's calibre at this stage in the game's life is an exciting development and raises some questions.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/22/artist-david-nakayama-joins-city-of-heroes-team/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Artist David Nakayama joins City of Heroes team</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/22/artist-david-nakayama-joins-city-of-heroes-team/">Artist David Nakayama joins City of Heroes team</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 22 Oct 2008 10:00:00 EST. Whatever you celebrate this time of year, December seems to be when the majority of gifts are exchanged among friends and family. Everyone has their own idea of what is and isn't appropriate in a gift-giving manner, and it's difficult to decide what's best to give, and what we most want to receive. Well, that's where we come in.<br /><br />We have the good fortune of having two of the fae here -- one from the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/city-of-villains">Rogue Isles</a>, and one from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/city-of-heroes">Paragon City</a> -- to share with us their views of appropriate gifts for those of you who are playing in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a>'s realms this holiday season. Their selections range from cost-free, in-game offerings up to something you can tuck under the tree ... or the computer desk, as the case may be.
