Yes, Virginia, there is a game after character creation.

With such extensive customization available, it is quite likely that I would have spent the duration of Choose My Adventure without ever actually logging in to play City of Heroes. For all of the hours I spent in character creation with all the options (enough to completely blow a fuse in your mind), it was easy to lose sight of the fact that there was actually a game to go play once I finally made my character. Now I see the real appeal of the VIP pass with all of those character slots; it has even me thinking wistfully of all the alts that could be.

Luckily I have you folks directing me, forcing me past the costume creator and into my role as defender of truth and justice. If it hadn't been for you, I would have never embarked on my journey of flight and fricasseed evil doers in Atlas Park. Or participated in an impromptu street band performance. Yup, it is all your fault! And I'm looking forward to what we do next as we continue our City of Heroes adventures together.

But first, let's take a look at what mayhem I caused... er, put an end to this past week.
Continue reading Choose My Adventure: Patrolling the park

Choose My Adventure: Patrolling the park originally appeared on Massively on Wed, 09 May 2012 12:00:00 EST. The newest Ask Cryptic for Champions Online is out and you know what that means: more information! This time around, we start off with some news about weaponization of objects within the game world. The short answer is that players will be able to grab all sorts of stuff and chuck it into the faces of their enemies Next we've got confirmation that players will indeed be getting additional power sets after Champions Online launches. We're glad to hear it, because it's quite exciting when a new patch is about to hit with all sorts of new powers to play with inside.

Moving away from the more mechanical workings of the game, Cryptic lets us know that roleplaying will indeed be supported through social hot-spots in Champions Online. If you've ever played around with City of Heroes for very long, then you'll know that Atlas Park was -- aside from a newbie zone that featured a big dude carrying a globe -- a great place to hang out and chat with all sorts of people. As cool as these reveals are, the next one is probably the biggest and best news from this iteration of Ask Cryptic.
Continue reading Cryptic evolves their mission system

Cryptic evolves their mission system originally appeared on Massively on Thu, 14 Aug 2008 13:00:00 EST. When you've had a long day of fighting villains in City of Heroes and you just need to relax, there are a few places heroes like to hang out. For the dancing and partying types, you have Pocket D, conveniently located between dimensions. For the more relaxed type, you could hang out in your Supergroup's Base, but one would think that staring at the bins full of odds and ends might get boring after a little while if you didn't have some SG friends to talk to. For those who just like to people-watch, there's also Atlas Park -- home of many a costume contest. Today's One Shot comes from one such heroic reader, Matthew, who decided to get in some people-watching since it was "just another lazy Sunday night in Atlas Park."

Do you have a place you like to hang out and people-watch in your favorite game? Perhaps you know the hot spot that everyone likes to be social in? If so, why not send us a screenshot of what people are doing in your game! Just pop them in a mail to oneshots@massively.com with a quick note about what's going on, and you're done. Even though NCsoft's CoX Meet & Greet was fairly high-energy, she was kind enough to take some time out of her event coverage to give us an interview about PvR, its history, and what it's looking forward to in the future.

PvR is a cross-MMO station -- meaning that they don't limit themselves to the City of Heroes and City of Villains properties, but broadcast within a wide range of MMO titles such as Vanguard, World of Warcraft, and Second Life -- and their music rotation is based on player requests.
