According to respected Korean news source <a href="http://en.thisisgame.com">ThisIsGame</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Bluehole-Studio/">Bluehole Studio</a> is looking to <a href="http://en.thisisgame.com/2013/05/14/next-tera-is-recruiting-developers">add more people to its team</a> for either a sequel to <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/TERA/">TERA</a></em> or a whole new MMO entirely.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.mmoculture.com/2013/05/bluehole-studio-recruitment-drive-begins-for-tera-sequel/">Some are saying</a> that this will, indeed, be a sequel to <em>TERA</em>, but this has yet to be confirmed by Bluehole, hence the rumor tag. The studio is currently hiring for several positions, including server programmers, UI designers, artists, and more.<br />

	<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/04/02/rumor-titan-a-time-traveling-earthbound-mmo/"><img alt="Rumor Titan a timetraveling, earthbound MMO" data-src-height="294" data-src-width="530" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/blizzardlogo.jpg" /></a></div>
The folks over at <a href="http://titanfocus.info/_/news/project-titan-info-leak-esports-jay-wilson-blizzcon-2013-and-more-r65">Project <em>Titan</em></a> claim to have a huge leak on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard's</a> upcoming<em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/titan/">Titan</a> </em>project from a reliable (and unnamed) source. While we are certainly wary of rumors, particularly on this scale, the author says he is "extremely confident" about the leak in particular.<br />
<br />
So what is <em>Titan</em>, according to this post? Several bullet points sketch a picture of an MMO that is based on Earth, is big into historical mythology (including Greek, Roman, and Viking myths), and involves "a lot" of time travel. The leaks says that <em>Titan </em>will play from a third-person view, has a new game engine, could also be headed to consoles, and has a strong e-sports emphasis. The leak purports that over 150 developers are working on <em>Titan</em>, including <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jay-wilson">Jay Wilson</a>. Apparently we'll be seeing a teaser of <em>Titan </em>at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzcon-2013">BlizzCon</a> before it goes into friends and family testing in early 2014.<br />
<br />
So what do you think? Is this too elaborate to be a hoax, too vague to be the real thing, or a possible advance insight into what <em>Titan </em>is? Sound off in the comments!<br />
<br />

Hooboy, it's been a while since we've had a proper <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/the-war-z"><em>War Z</em></a> clusterfunk, hasn't it? Unfortunately for the zombie shooter's playerbase, the latest brouhaha involves some potential account security issues.<br />
<br />
What we know for sure is that a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/hammerpoint">Hammerpoint</a> forum admin account was compromised, and the company says that "many posts were unable to be restored as a result." There are also rumors that producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/sergey-titov">Sergey Titov's</a> admin account was affected and that those responsible are now in possession of <em>War Z</em> user info including account and email data.<br />
<br />
We've contacted Hammerpoint for clarification and will update this post if we receive a response.<br />

According to <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/bioware-san-francisco-shut-down-employees-laid-off/">GamesRadar</a>'s unnamed sources, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a> San Francisco has reportedly <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/bioware-san-francisco-shut-down-employees-laid-off/">been shut down as of today</a>, resulting in the layoffs of 25-30 employees associated with the studio.<br />
<br />
The studio formerly known as EA2D was responsible for the <em>Dragon Age Legends</em> <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Facebook/">Facebook</a> game and the browser-based <em>Mirror's Edge 2D</em>. While it was focused on developing mobile and social games, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Electronic-Arts/">Electronic Arts</a> found that handling development in the area was too expensive and has shut down operations.<br />

Something very interesting will either happen or be revealed for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> on March 21st. We know that not because of our new psychic intern, Francesca, but because <a href="http://sto.perfectworld.com/sto_may2013">the teaser site for <em>STO's </em>May content update</a> now has an exciting-slash-ominous timer counting down to that date.<br />
<br />
The teaser picture also has been updated to change from the Romulan symbol to a murky picture of warbirds among the stars when you mouse over it. The image caption reads, "Our shadow will dim the stars."<br />
<br />
Will this be the reveal of a playable Romulan faction, as <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/02/11/captains-log-ruminating-on-star-trek-onlines-future-story/">many have suggested</a>? Or will it be the rise of a prominent adversary in the form of new mission content? Or could it be something as of yet unforseen? We'll just have to wait with the rest of you until all is revealed on the 21st.<br />
<br />

Is this our first in-game glimpse of a revamped <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest-next"><em>EverQuest Next</em></a>? Take it with a grain of salt since it comes from an anonymous Joystiq tipster with a fishy timestamp, but regardless, it's awful purty.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/soe">Sony Online Entertainment</a> originally teased some heavily stylized in-game assets <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/06/fan-faire-2010-eqii-flying-mounts-eqnext-art-revealed/">over two years ago</a>, but since then the company has announced that its next <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/everquest"><em>EverQuest</em></a> title has been blown up and re-designed as a sandbox. We don't know whether this includes an artistic revamp as well, but we do know that the game will make use of the same proprietary <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/forgelight">Forgelight</a> engine that powers <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/planetside-2"><em>PlanetSide 2</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Have a look at the full-size leaked image after the cut and tell us what you think. Legit? Fake? If fake, what game is it from?<br />
<br />
<strong>[Update]:</strong> Well, SOE CEO <a href="https://twitter.com/j_smedley">John Smedley</a> has officially burst our bubble and we're playing the sad trombone. That said, any guesses as to where the image is actually from?<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/01/10/is-this-our-first-glimpse-of-soes-revamped-everquest-next/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Is this our first glimpse of SOE's revamped EverQuest Next? What is <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Titan/">Titan</a></em>? All we know about it right now for sure is that it's being developed by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Blizzard/">Blizzard</a>, and we've been told on occasion that the game is <em>not</em> a new installment of one of Blizzard's existing franchises. But that may not be the case. According to <a href="http://titanfocus.info/_/news/titan-is-not-entirely-a-brand-new-ip-and-is-also-coming-on-xbox-more-rumor-r60">rumors collected by the fans</a> over at <a href="http://www.titanfocus.info">Titan Focus</a>, Titan may indeed be a spinoff of an existing IP and might even be aimed at the console market.<br />
<br />
The hints have been coming from a fan known in the community for being fairly reliable in his rumors, lending this some credibility, but it's still just a rumor at this point. If it's <em>true</em>, then we can expect the game to be tied to one of the existing Blizzard franchises, albeit not as a direct sequel. Considering how quiet the studio has been on the project for some time, we can only hope that <a href="http://titanfocus.info/_/news/titan-is-not-entirely-a-brand-new-ip-and-is-also-coming-on-xbox-more-rumor-r60">the surfacing rumors</a> are a sign we're getting closer to some hard information.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/01/01/rumor-blizzards-titan-is-not-a-new-ip-and-could-be-heading-to/">Rumor: Blizzard's Titan is not a new IP and could be heading to consoles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 01 Jan 2013 20:00:00 EST. If you have created an <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ea-origin/">EA Origin</a> account for any reason, such as for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> or <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/ultima-online"><em>Ultima Online</em></a>, we advise you to change your password posthaste. <a href="http://kotaku.com/5960503/origin-users-are-suddenly-getting-hacked-a-lot">Numerous</a> <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-14-ea-origin-accounts-are-being-hijacked">sites</a> are reporting that hackers have breached Origin's security and are potentially modifying account information and stealing it.<br />
<br />
Allegedly affected players claim that the hackers are changing the log-in emails associated with their accounts and that the new email addresses have a Russian suffix.<br />
<br />
In response to a question about whether any accounts were compromised by hacking, an <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ea">EA</a> spokesperson made <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2012/11/14/3644348/origin-accounts-reportedly-being-accessed-stolen">the following statement</a>: "At this point, we have no reason to believe there has been any intrusion into our Origin database."<br />
<br />
<strong>EA has updated us with its full security statement:</strong><br />
<blockquote class="bq-standard">
	Anytime a player has a question about the security of his or her account or personal data, we take it very seriously and take all possible steps to help. For any customer who cannot access their Origin account for any reason, we ask them to please contact Origin Help or EA's customer experience group at help.ea.com. The robust security measures in place to protect Origin users accounts are constantly being expanded and upgraded, and we also strongly recommend customers take the protective steps of using strong passwords and changing passwords often.</blockquote><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/11/14/rumor-origin-hacked-ea-denies-intrusion/">Rumor: Origin hacked, EA denies intrusion [Updated]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 14 Nov 2012 14:30:00 EST. Some MMORPGs have been affected by a security breach at <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/playspan">PlaySpan</a>. User IDs, encrypted passwords, and email addresses for the players of multiple unconfirmed MMOs have been compromised, according to <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/42216/Millions-of-PlaySpan-user-IDs-and-passwords-leaked-online">Develop</a>.<br />
<br />
Upon detecting the breach, PlaySpan locked all accounts and closed the PlaySpan Marketplace. The company is asking users to reset their passwords while the firm investigates the hack; it also encourages folks urges folks to reset passwords on other websites as a precaution.<br />
<br />
A PlaySpan spokesperson stated, "We sincerely apologize for any frustration or inconvenience this incident has caused our customers. We know PlaySpan's business depends on consumer trust. Security is a top priority for us, and we are redoubling our efforts to strengthen PlaySpan's overall system security."<br />
<br />
[Thanks to Chris for the tip!]<br />

If you were just thinking that the world needed another Massively Online Battle Arena (<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/MOBA/">MOBA</a>) based on a previous game IP, the team at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/visceral-games">Visceral Games</a> may have read your mind. The <a href="http://www.deadspace.com/"><em>Dead Space</em></a> and <a href="http://www.ea.com/dantes-inferno"><em>Dante's Inferno</em></a> dev studio has posted a handful of tell-tale job listings on the Gamasutra job boards that point to the development of a MOBA.<br />

Among these MOBA-esque positions are a <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/viewjobrss.asp?cjid=31525&amp;accountno=178">game designer</a>, a <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/viewjobrss.asp?cjid=31455&amp;accountno=178">global community manager</a>, and a <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobs/178-31526/Character-Concept-Artist-Contract--Visceral-Games-Redwood-Shores-Redwood-City-CA-United-States">character concept artist</a>, all with experience or passion for the PC MOBA genre. As it stands, the connection between these job listings is only speculation, but the real question seems to be whether or not the studio is working on a MOBA for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visceral_Games">one of their existing IPs</a> or an entirely new way to kill your friends in three-quarter overhead view with pre-made classes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/10/09/rumor-dantes-inferno-dev-may-be-working-on-a-moba/">Rumor: Dante's Inferno and Dead Space dev may be working on a MOBA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 09 Oct 2012 17:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-09-27-nexon-and-ncsoft-reported-in-talks-to-buy-valve">A South Korean newspaper is reporting</a> that MMO companies <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/nexon/">Nexon</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a> are joining forces to consider buying <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/valve">Valve</a>. The two companies have been gathering together funds via stock sales and real estate deals. A meeting between the three companies supposedly happened in Hawaii on September 26th to haggle on <a href="http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/9/27/3415620/report-nexon-and-ncsoft-making-moves-to-acquire-valve">a $893 million-plus deal</a>.<br />
<br />
The three companies are already entangled in various business dealings. Nexon is NCsoft's biggest shareholder, and both companies have titles represented on Valve's Steam service. Additionally, Nexon licenses <em>Counterstrike </em>in Asia and announced that <em>Counterstrike 2</em> was on the way.<br />
<br />
NCsoft said that "there is no truth to this rumor" while Nexon refused to comment. Valve has been the subject of other attempted buyouts, including a reportedly $1 billion-plus deal from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ea">EA</a>. Valve CEO <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gabe-newell">Gabe Newell</a> has gone on record saying that it would be more likely for Valve to disband than the company selling out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/09/27/rumor-nexon-and-ncsoft-eye-valve-buyout/">Rumor: Nexon and NCsoft eye Valve buyout</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2012 09:00:00 EST. Is <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/square-enix/">Square-Enix</a> issuing a termination order for store copies of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/final-fantasy-xiv"><em>Final Fantasy XIV</em></a>? That's the disturbing rumor that's emerged today, <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488055">as a retailer on the NeoGaf forums</a> posted an email stating that the company has decreed that stores rid themselves of the remaining stock.<br />
<br />
The email states, "Square is discontinuing <em>Final Fantasy XIV</em>. They will be doing a field destroy credit of $16.00 each."<br />
<br />
This move may be in preparation for the upcoming version 2.0 of the title, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/08/08/square-enix-releases-second-ffxiv-2-0-trailer/">now called <em>A Realm Reborn</em></a>, which is slated to release for both PC and the PlayStation 3. <em>A Realm Reborn</em> <a href="http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/7/30/3201704/final-fantasy-xiv-a-realm-reborn-update-will-remove-some-content">will actually remove some of the content</a> from <em>FFXIV</em>, possibly necessitating a new product. Square-Enix may also just be looking at rolling out a new package for the relaunched title.<br />
<br />
When asked about the rumor, the company declined to address the email and stated that the beta will happen later this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/08/23/rumor-retailers-instructed-to-destroy-final-fantasy-xiv/">Rumor: Retailers instructed to destroy Final Fantasy XIV stock</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 23 Aug 2012 09:00:00 EST. According to a rumor circulating at German games site <a href="http://www.gamersglobal.de/news/56545/verlassen-zeschukmuzyka-bioware-ea-auszeit-nein-3u">GamersGlobal</a>, one of the founders of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/BioWare/">BioWare</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Greg-Zeschuk/">Greg Zeschuk</a>, may be leaving the studio he helped create.<br />
<br />
Word of his possible departure has been rumored since the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/22/star-wars-the-old-republic-hit-with-layoffs/">May layoffs</a>, but an <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/EA/">EA</a> representative reportedly confirmed to GamersGlobal that Zeschuk "outlined his plan to return to his family in Edmonton for a much deserved vacation." The site also suggested that Zeschuk has been absent from the studio for several weeks, and there were fears within the Austin studio that both Zeschuk and co-founder <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/RayMuzyka/">Ray Muzyka</a> were planning to leave.<br />
<br />
The rep went on to clarify: "Greg also announced the new GM of BioWare Austin and Old Republic, Matt Bromberg. Greg is still with EA. He's now back in Canada, taking time off and thinking about new projects. No change with Ray Muzyka."<br />
<br />
As this is still a rumor at this point, we must note that official confirmation from EA hasn't been made on this report. We will update with any news as it's made available.<br />

Twitter was abuzz this morning when a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> lead writer posted a cryptic message. "SIS Intel Report: Rumors indicate Czerka research vessel 'Theoretika' has been located by deep-space salvage team. Investigating," <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/hall-hood/">Hall Hood</a> announced on his account.<br />
<br />
Speculation abounded from many of his followers and fans of the game; the biggest theory revolved around a possible live event. Unfortunately for <em>SWTOR</em> players who scoured planet after planet searching for new content, Hood later tweeted, "Just to clarify: I was only giving a little preview of future content. I would never announce an in-game event on Twitter." We are disappoint.<br />
<br />
However, Hood did give us a bit of joy when the tweeters proposed that it might be a new flashpoint. Hood answered that suggestion with, "Not exactly. You'll see very soon, I hope." Does that mean <em>SWTOR</em> will announce 1.4 content soon? We have our fingers crossed.<br />

Rumors are swirling about the possible sale of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/activision-blizzard">Activision-Blizzard</a> after the departure of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/vivendi">Vivendi</a> CEO <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jean-bernard-levy">Jean-Bernard Levy</a> this week. Vivendi owns 61% of Acti-Blizz, and Levy reportedly walked over a disagreement about splitting up the French holding company.<br />
<br />
How this affects Activision-Blizzard remains to be seen, but <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-29/vivendi-said-to-plan-sale-of-stake-in-activision-blizzard.html">Bloomberg</a> says that Vivendi is looking to sell its entire stake, according to "a person with knowledge of the situation." <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303649504577494323954109742.html">The Wall Street Journal</a> says that Vivendi's board of directors is mulling whether or not to split the company, which could potentially affect <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard</a> and its <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/diablo-iii"><em>Diablo III</em></a> titles.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/30/rumor-vivendi-looking-to-sell-activision-blizzard-stake/">Rumor: Vivendi looking to sell Activision-Blizzard stake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Sat, 30 Jun 2012 12:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/38-studios">38 Studios</a> stories continue to circulate through the gaming media this week, with the latest arriving courtesy of Gamasutra. The industry news site has published an <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/172303/38_Studios_Spouse_speaks_out.php">anonymous letter</a> from an alleged former employee's wife that details the challenges inherent in supporting a large family that is subject to the whims of the game industry.<br />
<br />
The letter outlines the family's financial struggles in great detail, and it serves as a cautionary tale to game industry hopefuls who are thinking of uprooting a family to follow a dream. Though the author is unnamed and could quite literally be anyone, Gamasutra says it has "verified her husband's name and former position at 38 Studios."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/06/13/alleged-38-studios-spouse-outlines-familys-financial-struggles/">Alleged 38 Studios spouse outlines family's financial struggles after company's closure</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2012 14:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/38-studios">38 Studios</a> disaster continues to unfold today, as the troubled studio laid off its entire staff and <a href="http://kotaku.com/5913102/rumor-38-studios-shutting-down-big-huge-games">may be selling off</a> its <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Big-Huge-Games/">Big Huge Games</a> division in Boston. <a href="http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/18612371/2012/05/24/report-38-studios-no-longer-paying-workers-could-close-by-weekend">Boston's Fox 25 News</a> speculates that the studio may close by this weekend.<br />
<br />
38 Studios CM <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/charles-dane">Charles Dane</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/cmdane/status/205761811981680642">confirmed being laid off</a> on Twitter: "Now on the market. I had an awesome run with 38 Studios, but this dream is now ending."<br />
<br />
Word is that the company is also selling its subsidiary, Big Huge Games. Big Huge Games is the maker of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Kingdoms-of-Amalur-Reckoning/"><em>Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning</em></a>, 38 Studios' single-player prequel to its <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Project-Copernicus/"><em>Copernicus</em></a> MMO. This would not be the first time that Big Huge Games was sold by its parent company, as the studio experienced the same event back in 2009.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.facebook.com/curt.schilling.56">Oh his Facebook page</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Curt-Schilling/">Curt Schilling</a> stressed that <em>Reckoning </em>did quite well in sales. "I wanted to clear up some misinformation around 38 Studios' first product, <em>Reckoning</em>. Sales of <em>Reckoning</em> outperformed <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ea">EA's</a> expectations and sold more than 1.2 million units in the game's first 90 days in the market."<br />
<br />
<strong>[Update]:</strong> Developer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ryan-shwayder">Ryan Shwayder</a> has also confirmed the layoffs via his <a href="http://www.nerfbat.com/2012/05/24/38-studios-what-a-journey/">personal blog</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/24/rumor-38-studios-lays-off-entire-staff-sells-big-huge-games/">38 Studios lays off entire staff, sells Big Huge Games [Updated]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 24 May 2012 17:00:00 EST. <div>
	Since players aren't tremendously happy with <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/arenanet/">ArenaNet</a>'s answer of "when it's ready" every time the question of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/guild-wars-2/"><em>Guild Wars 2 </em></a>release date comes up, any hint of further clarification is something to be prized. As a game retailer, dates are the sort of thing that come up in <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamestop">GameStop</a>'s earnings calls. Covering the Q1 conference call released today, Gamespot has CFO Robert Lloyd stating that <em>Guild Wars 2 </em>has been bumped out of the current quarter, putting its release sometime after July. It's worth noting that as of this posting, GameStop's online listing still had the <em>Guild Wars 2 </em>release date as June 26th.<br />
	<br />
	As has been repeated countless times by ArenaNet devs, no information should be treated as official unless it's directly from them. Don't let that stop you from pulling out your favorite tinfoil hat and cooking up some speculations, though.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/17/gamestop-earnings-call-adds-to-guild-wars-2-release-date-specula/">GameStop earnings call adds to Guild Wars 2 release date speculation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 17 May 2012 16:30:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/rumor-38-studios-may-be-having-financial-trouble/"><img alt="In fairness, the MMO was always about 50-50 on happening." src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/38studio-finance-epl-514.jpg" /></a></div>
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/38-Studios/">38 Studios</a> is one of many developers whose first big game (<em>Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning</em>) was rumored to lead into an MMO further on down the line. It looks like there may be storm clouds on the horizon before that project even gets moving, however, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/rhode-island-gov-working-hard-at-keeping-38-studios-solvent/">the company may be facing financial issues</a>. Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee has apparently been meeting with owner <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Curt-Schilling/">Curt Schilling</a> to work on "different issues," with Chafee noting that his administration has always tried to ensure that Rhode Island companies remain financially solvent.<br />
<br />
If you consider that Rhode Island invested about $75 million in the company, it's obvious that the government has an interest in making the company remain viable over the long term. <em>Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning</em> was a moderate hit, but that might not be enough for the company as it develops. We'll have more on this story as it develops, hopefully with better news.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/rumor-38-studios-may-be-having-financial-trouble/">Rumor: 38 Studios may be having financial trouble</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 14 May 2012 20:20:00 EST. You know, that pesky <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/elder-scrolls"><em>Elder Scrolls</em></a> MMO rumor just won't die. We've been hearing scuttlebutt of a Tamriel-themed massively multiplayer title for years now, and even though <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bethesda">Bethesda</a> has debunked such gossip in the past, Tom's Hardware is citing an "industry source" who says the title is a reality.<br />
<br />
The latest rumbling posits that the game will feature three factions and will take place several hundred years prior to the events of <em>Morrowind</em>, <em>Oblivion</em>, and <em>Skyrim</em>. Also, some sort of official announcement is supposedly scheduled for May. Following that, the source claims, the <em>Elder Scrolls</em> MMO will have a "presence at E3" in June.<br />
<br />
Bethesda has yet to comment, but we'll bring you the latest info as it happens.<br />

The rumor mill is churning fast and furious today as heavy speculation is swirling about a possible release date for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Diablo-III/"><em>Diablo III</em></a>: April 17th. This comes from Italian website <a href="http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/site/content.php?3417-Diablo-III-Fuori-il-17-Aprile!">mmorpgitalia</a>, which reports that retailers are clearing space for their shelves on the 17th after a tip from <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/activision-blizzard/">Activision Italy</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard/">Blizzard</a>, of course, is declining to comment on the rumor, although Game Director <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Jay-Wilson/">Jay Wilson </a>says that an "all-important announcement" -- most likely the release date -- is imminent. When asked on Twitter how soon the announcement would arrive (on a scale of 1-10), Wilson replied with a simple "9."<br />
<br />
Tomorrow begins the <a href="http://www.cebit.de/home">CeBIT 2012</a> trade show in Europe, and Blizzard will be present to show off the <em>Diablo III</em> beta. If an announcement is to be made, this event might make a good a platform as any from which to tell the gaming world which day it's going to need to take off from work.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/05/rumor-diablo-iii-releasing-april-17th/">Rumor: Diablo III releasing April 17th</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 05 Mar 2012 16:00:00 EST. Rumor has it that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard</a> is hopping on the free-to-play crazy train. <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/39915/New-Blizzard-game-to-be-free-to-play">Develop</a> reports that the company "will embrace free-to-play and will apply the model in an upcoming, as yet unannounced game."<br />
<br />
The website says that Blizzard has declined to comment in an official capacity, and the site's source could not provide more details. It's been speculated that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft's</em></a> recent <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/09/wow-loses-another-100-000-subscribers/">subscription losses</a>, the fact that <em>DOTA</em> is free-to-play, and the game's unlimited free trial though level 20 all indicate a shift in Blizzard's business model mindset.<br />
<br />
COO <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/paul-sams">Paul Sams</a> also paid lip service to F2P at BlizzCon last October, saying that F2P "certainly is possible, if we find ourselves in that circumstance, or if we come up with a game where we think that's the right business model, the most appropriate for players to experience it."<br />
<br />
Could the long-awaited <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/titan">Project Titan</a> MMO be Blizzard's first F2P offering, or is a completely new title in the works? We'll update you as the story develops.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/23/rumor-blizzard-embracing-f2p-for-unannounced-game/">Rumor: Blizzard embracing F2P for unannounced game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 23 Feb 2012 11:00:00 EST. It's been a rough couple of years for <em>Warhammer</em> MMORPG fans, and if the rumors are true, it's about to get a bit bleaker.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://kotaku.com/5876253/thq-wipes-out-games-planned-for-2014-to-ready-itself-for-sale-says-insider">Kotaku</a> reports on a tweet by games industry insider <a href="https://twitter.com/TheKevinDent">Kevin Dent</a> that indicates that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/thq/">THQ</a> has "canceled its entire 2014 slate of releases to position the company for sale." The recent spate of MMO industry layoffs isn't discriminating in terms of company size if the latest rumors are true. We've just been informed that one of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/blizzard">Blizzard's</a> golden boys has been served his walking papers, joining hundreds of devs from the likes of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamersfirst">GamersFirst</a>, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gameforge">GameForge</a>, and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp">CCP</a> in recent weeks.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/john-staats">John Staats</a>, the senior level designer on Blizzard's secretive <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/titan"><em>Titan</em></a> project, has been let go, according to our tipster. Staats has been with the company for over a decade and is responsible for some of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft's</em></a> most celebrated content including all the raid dungeons, Blackrock Mountain and Booty Bay, and numerous other instanced dungeons.<br />
<br />
Staats was also described by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/jeff-kaplan">Jeff Kaplan</a> as the "hero of the <em>WoW</em> dev team."<br />

If the rumors are true, today has not been the best of days for MMO industry staffers. Hot on the heels of our <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ncsoft">NCsoft</a> layoff story comes distressing news for fans of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/gamersfirst">GamersFirst</a>, as we've just received an anonymous tip concerning the apparent dismissal of 32 people from the firm's west coast office.<br />
<br />
According to our tipster, "Most of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/all-points-bulletin"><em>APB</em></a> team was let go. A lot of the support staff was let go. The development team was not, to my knowledge, so the game is still being developed in Scotland." We've also been told that GamersFirst's CFO was let go.<br />
<br />
We've reached out to G1 for clarification on this story, and as of press time there is no official word on the staffing decisions or how the shake-up will affect <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/fallen-earth"><em>Fallen Earth</em></a> and the rest of the company's free-to-play lineup.<br />
<br />

Although the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/faxion-online/"><em>Faxion Online</em></a> team has <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/18/faxion-online-studio-hit-with-layoffs/">weathered layoffs</a> before, today it looks as though none have survived a recent culling.<br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://www.faxiononline.com/content/rip-faxion">a forum post</a> citing a former <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/utv/">UTV</a> employee, it's rumored that the entire team has been given their pink slips. "It is now officially dead," the unnamed source wrote. "They laid off the rest of the <em>Faxion </em>team, so there is no one left to do anything."<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/28/disney-looking-to-buy-out-faxion-online-developer/">Disney recently bought out UTV Ignition</a>, which oversees <em>Faxion</em> <em>Online</em>, and there was some speculation that the Mouse House might be making cuts in this struggling PvP MMO and elsewhere. So far this is an unconfirmed rumor, and it remains to be seen what impact this will have on <em>Faxion </em>going forward if true.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/17/rumor-entire-faxion-online-team-laid-off/">Rumor: Entire Faxion Online team laid off</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 17 Aug 2011 22:00:00 EST. If the rumors are true (and we'd like to stress that these are simply rumors as of press time), <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/bluehole-studio">Bluehole Studio</a> is undergoing something of a shakeup following the less-than-stellar showing of its <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tera"><em>TERA</em></a> MMORPG in Korea.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/hyun-kyu-park">Hyun-Kyu Park</a>, <em>TERA's</em> executive director, has reportedly left the development firm due to an as-yet undetermined internal conflict. Our sources in Korea tell us that Park locked horns with other senior Bluehole executives due to his desire to postpone the game's open beta earlier this year. At the time, Park stepped down from his role as <em>TERA's</em> chief producer to become a producer on a forthcoming Bluehole title but is now rumored to have left the firm entirely.<br />
<br />
<em>TERA</em> launched in Korea on January 25th and Bluehole began merging servers <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/01/rumor-tera-korean-servers-merging/">earlier this summer</a>. Massively has contacted <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/en-masse">En Masse Entertainment</a>, <em>TERA's</em> North American publisher, and is awaiting a response.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/01/rumor-teras-korean-development-director-resigns/">Rumor: TERA's Korean development director resigns</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 01 Aug 2011 12:00:00 EST. <br />
As if to confirm <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/rumor-polish-retailer-leaks-swtor-pre-order-info/">the rumor from yesterday</a>, GameStop's website briefly displayed a pre-order page for the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic/"><em>Star Wars: The Old Republic</em></a> collector's edition. According to the page, the full collector's edition will be priced at $149.99 US and chock full of CE goodness.<br />
<br />
According to the rumor, the full collector's edition will contain these items physically in the box:<br />
<ul>
	<li>
		<em>Exclusive Gentle Giant Darth Malgus statue</em></li>
	<li>
		<em>Star Wars: The Old Republic game disks in collectible metal case</em></li>

Most of the game's fans are aware that there will be some announcement made regarding the game once <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/">San Diego Comic-Con</a> starts up on Thursday, but suspicions seem confirmed when <a href="http://www.empik.com/">Polish retailer Empik.com</a> released what looked to be pre-order information complete with box art for the game.<br />
<br />
Needless to say, the actual entry for the order was quickly pulled from the page, but the box art image remains available, including mention of a pre-order "colour stone to change your weapon effect." Plausible? Considering how many fans are waiting with bated breath to get a release date on the game, it's certainly believable that a release or pre-order is among the orders of business at the convention. It might seem like a bit of a thin framework for fans to pin their hopes on... but even so, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/star-wars-the-old-republic">Star Wars: The Old Republic</a></em> fans should keep their eyes open during SDCC to see if it turns out to be an accurate forecast of coming announcements.<br />
<br />
[Thanks to all of the tipsters on this one!]<br />

<div>
	Attention mudbloods, muggles, and wizards alike! <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/leaked-memo-says-pottermore-is-an-online-game/">We reported yesterday</a> on the cryptic <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/harry-potter">Harry Potter</a>-related <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/pottermore">Pottermore</a>, which -- according to a leaked memo -- was rumored to be an online game. Not but a short while ago, the big reveal took place via an <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5DOKOt7ZF4&amp;feature=player_embedded#at=53">announcement video</a> from J.K. Rowling on YouTube. Is Pottermore really the big Harry Potter MMO that fans have been clamoring for?<br />
	<br />
	Well... maybe. Information is still scarce, with the unveiling of Pottermore's true purpose remaining just as cryptic as it has been since the discovery of the website. The new addition to the immensely popular Harry Potter franchise, according to the announcement video, is "<em>the same story with a few crucial additions,</em>" the most important of which is you, the reader. <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/harry-potter/8593930/JK-Rowling-unveils-Pottermore-website.html">Early reports </a>claim that members of the site, which officially launches in October, will be able to join one of the four houses of Hogwarts and become wizards in their own right. Part social networking site, part online game, and all incredibly mysterious, Pottermore is certain to be a monumental addition to the world of Harry Potter. What exactly the experience will entail, however, remains to be seen. Keep a (mad-)eye here for more news as it develops, and apparate past the cut for the official announcement.</div><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/pottermore-officially-announced-but-what-exactly-is-it/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pottermore officially announced, but what exactly is it?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/pottermore-officially-announced-but-what-exactly-is-it/">Pottermore officially announced, but what exactly is it?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 23 Jun 2011 17:00:00 EST. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/fearless.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></div>
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/21/controversy-brewing-over-eve-online-microtransactions/">In the wake of controversy</a> surrounding <a href="http://www.eve-online.com"><em>EVE Online</em></a>'s new microtransaction store and its not-so-micro prices, a document has surfaced that has raised more than a few eyebrows in the <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/eve-online/">EVE</a></em> community. The PDF is reported to be a copy of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/ccp-games/">CCP</a>'s internal company newsletter Fearless. Ex-CCP employee and current CSM member Seleene was <a href="http://failheap-challenge.com/viewtopic.php?p=121170#p121170">able to verify that the company does circulate</a> an internal newsletter by that name and that the style is very similar to the leaked document. However, the absolute authenticity of the document can not at this time be proven.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.evenews24.com/2011/06/22/greed-is-good-purportedly-leaked-internal-bulletin-shows-ccps-refreshing-new-direction/">The document dates back to May 2011</a> and discusses how microtransactions will be integrated into <em>EVE Online</em>, <em><a href="http://www.dust514.com">DUST 514</a></em> and <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/world-of-darkness">World of Darkness</a></em>. Most of the document is fairly harmless, but a few parts have stood out to players. According to the document, <em>"Not all virtual purchases </em>[in EVE Online]<em> will focus on customization: some will simply be new items, ammunition, ships, etc. that can be purchased outright."</em> Also mentioned is the possibility of buying faction standings. Both of these would be in complete contrast to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/11/23/eve-online-microtransactions-wont-impact-gameplay/">earlier promises from CCP not to allow microtransactions</a> that influence gameplay.<br />
<br />
Authenticity of the document is still in question, but we can reveal that the leaked PDF has had several pages removed before being made public. A <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?ccl135embyb6c2v">link to the full version</a> was later <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/HelicityBoson/status/83669623131738112">leaked on twitter</a>. Page 2 of the document, which was omitted in the originally leaked file, contains a disclaimer stating that the views presented are personal opinions and not company policies or decisions. This adds further confusion as players attempt to make sense of the file's contents. We reached out to CCP to ask about the document's authenticity and to request clarification on the discussions presented in it. We'll update this post with any response we get.<br />
<br />
<strong>[UPDATE: The document's authenticity has <a href="http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&amp;threadID=1536065&amp;page=5#126">been confirmed by CCP Pann</a> from CCPs PR department. Internet scuttlebutt has it that <a href="http://turbine.com">Turbine</a> is cooking up a console MMO codenamed Project Hendrix. A posting at <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/middleearthonline/news/6320286/turbine-crafting-project-hendrix-console-mmo-game">GameSpot</a> cites a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/turbine">Turbine</a> job listing that seeks an engineer for an "<em>unannounced online console project</em>." The article also mentions the resume of one <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/josh-phelan">Josh Phelan</a>, a Turbine employee who apparently mentioned the Hendrix title in his online resume (which has since <a href="http://joshphelan.com/">gone dark</a>).<br />
<br />
Turbine's console aspirations are <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6228694/turbine-on-spinning-console-mmorpgs">nothing new</a>, as studio VP <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/craig-alexander">Craig Alexander</a> hinted at such desires as early as 2009. Commenter speculation links the job listing to the mysterious <a href="http://www.pottermore.com/"><em>Pottermore</em></a> title, and given Turbine's acquisition by <a href="http://www.warnerbros.com/">Warner Brothers</a> (which also owns the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/16/rumor-is-pottermore-the-upcoming-harry-potter-mmo/"><em>Pottermore</em></a> trademark), it's not unreasonable to suspect that the sorting hat could be getting ready to assign a Potter MMO to House Turbine.<br />

<a href="http://www.bluehole.net/eng/">Bluehole Studio's</a> <em><a href="http://tera-online.com/">TERA</a></em> action MMORPG is gearing up for its second round of Korean server merges since launch according to a blurb at <a href="http://www.mmoculture.com/2011/06/tera-korea-major-server-merge-coming.html">MMO Culture</a>. The fantasy title, which is currently being prepared for a North American release by <a href="http://enmasse.com/">En Masse Entertainment</a>, is scheduled to trim its list of 35 shards to 15 this week.<br />
<br />
Despite more upbeat news of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/01/frogster-hints-at-expansive-new-tera-update/">fresh content</a> in the offing, the merges come amid reports of lower-than-expected financial performance according to publisher <a href="http://www.nhncorp.com/nhn/index.nhn">NHN Korea</a>. <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/tera"><em>TERA</em></a> launched in Korea last February and is gearing up for a Japanese beta on July 1st. In a recent <a href="http://www.ustream.tv/channel/fallen-earth-community">USTREAM announcement</a>, the developers at <a href="http://www.icarusstudios.com/">Icarus studios</a> explained that the post-apocalyptic MMO <a href="http://fallenearth.com"><em>Fallen Earth</em></a> is on the move. <a href="http://www.gamersfirst.com/">GamersFirst</a>, which is well-known for having purchased and resurrected third-person shooter MMO <a href="http://www.gamersfirst.com/sites/www.gamersfirst.com/files/apb_game_en_over.jpg"><em>All Points Bulletin</em></a>, is taking the sandbox MMO under its wing. The full video has not been posted as of yet, but we are prodding GamersFirst and Icarus for more information. Will this mean that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/fallen-earth/"><em>Fallen Earth</em></a> is moving to a free-to-play model? Or is GamersFirst just helping the indie studio gain industry exposure?<br />
<br />
The <em>Fallen Earth</em> website is currently down and is <a href="http://www.fallenearth.com/sitedown.html">due back online at 11 p.m. EDT</a>. Hopefully, when the site comes back online everything will be revealed. Massively will stay on top of this story, and we will relay it all back to you as soon as more comes to light, so stay tuned!<br />

<strong>[Update: As of 8 p.m. EDT, the <em>Fallen Earth</em> team is once again <a href="http://www.ustream.tv/channel/fallen-earth-community">broadcasting live over USTREAM</a> and answering questions about the game and the transition. 	<a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6315555/zelda-universe-rated-for-online-platform-esrb"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/zeldammo.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></div>
The land of Hyrule may be invading your computer very soon -- or maybe <em>you</em> will be invading <em>it</em>. <a href="http://nintendo.com">Nintendo</a>, creator of the console hit the <a href="http://zelda.com"><em>Legend of Zelda</em></a>, has just registered for an <a href="http://esrb.org">ESRB</a> rating for a game called <a href="http://www.massively.com/tag/zelda-universe"><em>Zelda Universe</em></a>. According to the ESRB website, this mysterious game has received an "E" rating with "violence" as the only descriptive text, but the game is listed as "online." Although all other Nintendo games have a console listed along with the rating, this particular title does not. This could very well mean that everyone's favorite adventurer will appear in an MMORPG.<br />
<br />
The official website for the <em>Legend of Zelda</em> games is called <a href="http://zelda.com/universe/">Zelda Universe</a>, but the Entertainment Software Rating Board is not in the habit of handing out ratings to online content unless that content is also a game. Perhaps this is one of the big announcements Nintendo will reveal in its presentation at the <a href="http://e3expo.com">Electronic Entertainment Expo</a> in less than 12 days.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/26/is-zelda-about-to-hit-the-mmo-space/">Is Zelda about to hit the MMO space?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 26 May 2011 21:00:00 EST. If you have been following <a href="http://www.bungie.net/">Bungie</a>, then you are well aware of the <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/further-details-emerge-on-the-canceled-halo-mmo/">alleged MMO</a> in development by the creators of the single-player first-person shooter series <a href="http://halo.xbox.com/en-us"><em>Halo</em></a>. Most are also aware of the "<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/17/wow-in-space-bungies-mmofps-named-destiny/"><em>World of Warcraft</em> in space</a>" quote from a supposed ex-Bungie employee in the geek blog <a href="http://uk.kotaku.com/5762663/is-destiny-the-next-game-from-the-creators-of-halo">Kotaku</a>. In that same article, the source named <em>Project Tiger</em> by another name: <em>Destiny</em>. At the time, there was nothing to validate the claims of the article, until now.<br />
<br />
Now may be a good time to don your tinfoil hat.<br />
<br />
On the fan site <a href="http://halo.bungie.org/news.html?item=33340">Halo.Bungie.org</a>, a blogger may have discovered an actual connection between the words of the ex-Bungie employee and the name <em>Destiny</em>. While tracing the activities of Bungie employees, this intrepid pursuer found <a href="http://www.sos.wa.gov/corps/search_results.aspx?search_type=simple&amp;criteria=all&amp;name_type=contains&amp;name=podophobia&amp;ubi=">Podophobia Entertainment</a> a company formed by <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Harold-Ryan">Harold Ryan</a> and <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/Martin-ODonnell">Martin O'Donnell</a> of Bungie. One of the trademarks issued by this company was the name <em>Destiny</em> listed as "computer game software downloadable from a global computer network."<br />
<br />
Massively will let you draw your own conclusion for this, but pictured above is the trademarked logo for Podophobia's <em>Destiny</em> and next to that a Bungie employee wearing that same logo on a t-shirt. Tell us what you think in the comments.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/05/19/new-evidence-supports-bungies-destiny-in-mmos/">New evidence supports Bungie's Destiny in MMOs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 19 May 2011 21:00:00 EST. Could <a href="http://masseffect.com"><em>Mass Effect</em></a> be an MMO? In a recent interview with <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/04/07/may2011_2d00_cover_2d00_reveled_2d00_me3_2d00_789055.aspx">Game Informer</a>, Executive Producer <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/casey-hudson">Casey Hudson</a> of <a href="http://bioware.com">BioWare</a> says that the intellectual property makes sense for an MMO. We know that many Massively readers would absolutely pick up a multiplayer version of the series. Do the producers of the game think it is possible to transport the <em>Mass Effect</em> universe to the MMO space? Hudson told Game Informer, "<em>We've been trying to think of a way that makes sense for people to experience </em>Mass Effect<em> with their friends. We haven't yet come up with a way to do that, so we don't have anything to announce at this time. But, obviously, multiplayer is something we want to do more of in the future as a company.</em>"<br />
<br />
We have to assume that Commander Shepard saves the galaxy once and for all at the end of <em>Mass Effect 3</em>, which comes out later this year. Is that world going to be interesting enough to continue? Hudson thinks so: "<em>I think Mass Effect has that quality to it. If you get rid of the Reapers and win that, wouldn't it be amazing to just live on the Citadel or just take a ship to Omega? That makes sense.</em>"<br />
<br />
Whatever the case, we will have to wait for <em>Mass Effect 3</em> to come out before any sort of official announcement, but that doesn't mean we can't hold out hope.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/11/mass-effect-the-mmo/">Mass Effect the MMO?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 11 Apr 2011 08:30:00 EST.
