It's not definite yet, but signs are pointing to a possible port of <a href="http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a> over to the recently announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vita/">PlayStation Vita</a> in the indeterminable future.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2011/07/12/square-enix-looking-into-playstation-vita-port-for-playstation-vita-but-not-ps3/">Siliconera reports</a> that <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/square-enix/">Square Enix</a> is mulling over a basic port of the aging title to the beefed-up portable platform. While the plans are not definite at this point, it's an intriguing concept especially when you consider Vita's Wi-Fi and 3G capabilities.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/tag/hiromichi-tanaka/">Hiromichi Tanaka</a>, former lead designer for <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/final-fantasy-xi"><em>Final Fantasy XI</em></a> and producer for <a href="http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/"><em>Final Fantasy XIV</em></a>, says that while a Vita port is a possibility, the difficulties of working with the PlayStation 3 mean that a version on that console doesn't look likely (the PS3 version of <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/final-fantasy-xiv"><em>XIV</em></a> is still in limbo).<br />
<br />
<em>Final Fantasy XI </em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/12/final-fantasy-xi-improves-quality-of-life-with-july-version-upda/">recently received a dollop of quality-of-life improvements</a> in the July update.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/13/final-fantasy-xi-may-be-ported-to-playstation-vita/">Final Fantasy XI may be ported to PlayStation Vita</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Wed, 13 Jul 2011 10:00:00 EST. If you consider yourself any type of technophile at all, you're probably well aware of Apple's announcement yesterday regarding <a href="http://www.apple.com/ipad/">their new iPad</a>. This is basically the love child of an iPod Touch and a tablet PC, allowing users to take a fairly powerful slab of computing power with them wherever they go. While it might not be as beefy as your desktop machine or even a mid-range laptop, it has caused a giant wave of interest from consumers. So how does this affect us, as MMO gamers? We're glad you asked!<br />
<br />
Interestingly enough, Apple wanted to make sure that some gaming press were there for this huge unveiling of their new product. Our sister site Joystiq <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ipad/">made an appearance</a> for the in-person announcement in San Francisco yesterday and made <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/27/apple-ipad-hands-on-preview/">some interesting observations</a> about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/27/the-games-we-want-on-ipad/">role that gaming will play</a> with the iPad. So follow along after the break as we explore the many possibilities that the iPad has as a next-gen mobile online gaming device that may or may not interest us.<p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/editorial-what-could-apples-new-ipad-mean-for-mmos/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Editorial: What could Apple's new iPad mean for MMOs?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/editorial-what-could-apples-new-ipad-mean-for-mmos/">Editorial: What could Apple's new iPad mean for MMOs?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 13:00:00 EST. <p>You may remember Vollee, a company using an combination of streaming trickery to <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/surprise-world-of-warcraft-isnt-the-first-mmo-on-a-phone/">stream the displays of various games and software down to your mobile phone</a>. The most touted item was <a href="http://secondlife.com/"><em>Second Life</em></a>, and we're told that that beta is live right now.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.vollee.com/secondlife/faq">Check out their FAQ</a>, and give them a try -- assuming you're willing to trust them with your account credentials, which not everyone will. We're not yet sure if the <a href="http://www.vollee.com/secondlife">list of supported hardware</a> is final. If you give the beta a try, by all means, let us know what you think.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/vollee-second-life-mobile-beta-live/">Vollee Second Life mobile beta live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Tue, 03 Jun 2008 11:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Last month we reported on the company <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/surprise-world-of-warcraft-isnt-the-first-mmo-on-a-phone/">Vollee and their mobile gaming platform</a>, which will be offering Second Life access to mobile phone users. Also last month, we confused some readers by using the above <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/surprise-world-of-warcraft-isnt-the-first-mmo-on-a-phone/#c11764689">photoshopped photo of Second Life on the iPhone</a>. We apologize for the confusion caused by the photo originally, as Vollee had not announced iPhone support, but the good news is that Vollee has <a href="http://www.thinkartificial.org/web/vollee-mobile-second-life/">confirmed that their client will be available for the iPhone</a> in addition to the other phones announced!<br /><br /><a href="http://www.thinkartificial.org/">Think Artificial.org</a> confirmed this information with <a href="http://www.vollee.com">Vollee</a>, revealing that the company will be supporting both 3G networks as well as wi-fi, which means the iPhone will be supported at launch. In a statement to Think Artificial, the company stated that "All we need is a fast connection, so yes wi-fi works fine."<br /><br />So, it looks like iPhone users will also be able to get their Second Life fix in with the rest of the mobile crowd. If you're intrigued and wish to get in on the action, <a href="http://www.vollee.com/secondlife">Vollee is still accepting beta tester signups</a> on their main website. So if you missed our previous report or were worried that the iPhone wouldn't be supported, now is your chance to run over and get a piece of the action before it's gone.<br /><br />[Thanks, Hrafn!]</div>
