<p>Back in August, we talked about what we felt was an inevitability. A <a href="http://secondlife.com/"><em>Second Life</em></a> grid <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/a-second-life-corporate-grid-when-not-if/">devoted to corporations and business collaboration</a>, online 3D meetings and so forth. We figured that the agent-domain system that allows inter-grid teleportation would be a supporting factor in this effort. Also, earlier this week that the growing-yet-eternally-saturated <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/second-life"><em>Second Life</em></a> economy <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/is-the-second-life-economy-in-a-boom-or-a-bust/">would cause Linden Lab to announce a new revenue stream some day soon</a>.</p>
<p>That day is today. All these things, it seems, may have now come to pass.</p>
<p>Rivers Run Red and Linden Lab (after a bit of a <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/09/18/rivers-run-red-with-linden-lab-a-second-life-for-the-enterprise/">shaky time with their initial announcements for <em>Immersive Workspaces</em> 1.0</a>), have launched <em>Immersive Workspaces</em> 2.0. The clean, sanitized, and focused leveraging of <em>Second Life</em> for your corporate collaboration needs.</p><p><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/20/linden-lab-and-rivers-run-red-launch-immersive-workspaces-2-0/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Linden Lab and Rivers Run Red launch Immersive Workspaces 2.0</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/10/20/linden-lab-and-rivers-run-red-launch-immersive-workspaces-2-0/">Linden Lab and Rivers Run Red launch Immersive Workspaces 2.0</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Mon, 20 Oct 2008 00:01:00 EST. <p>3Di, a Tokyo-based member of the NGI group who maintain a fairly solid <a href="http://secondlife.com/"><em>Second Life</em></a> presence, have announced the launch of an enterprise virtual worlds product based on the BSD-licensed Opensim, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/second-life"><em>Second Life</em></a> simulator workalike.</p>
<p><em>3Di Opensim</em> (the base 3Di technology) is a reworked and extended version of Opensim, and as an enterprise solution is packaged with additional tools and support under the name <em><a href="http://3di-opensim.com/">3Di Opensim Standard</a></em>. 3Di maintain a separate project developing further extensions and enhancements for <em>3Di Opensim</em>.</p>

<p>Ex-Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Tokyo-based virtual worlds service firm NGI/3DI, Toshitaka Jiku, has been newly appointed as CTO of Chinese virtual world developer/operator, <em><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/category/hipihi">HiPiHi</a></em>. Jiku brings quite a bit of experience and education to the table from his time with NGI, and is expected to help <em>HiPiHi</em> position itself and scale to the global market.</p>
<p>As you may recall, <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/02/03/ibm-partners-with-hipihi/"><em>HiPiHi</em> has already partnered with IBM</a> to collaborate on both massively scalable architecture and long-term interoperability, and seems to have also gained significant buy-in from US chip giant Intel. <em>HiPiHi</em> is on the move, and has their eye on the world stage. It will be interesting to see if this China-based virtual world can pick up broad international appeal.<br /></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com"><img src="http://massively.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Massively" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/hipihi-appoints-new-cto/">HiPiHi appoints new CTO</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://massively.joystiq.com">Massively</a> on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 07:00:00 EST.
