Queue no more thanks to Guild Wars 2's overflow servers

Feb 21st 2012 6:40PM (Massively)
@(Unverified) The reason an Overflow server works, is because they have stated that they store character info independent of the server.

They have a character server, you select it,when you login, the server pulls all your data from the character server, and saves all data to that server.

Think of it like a single player game. You have a save file thats independent of the game. You can take that save file, put it in a different install, and you will go back to where you were as if nothing changed.

Imagine the character server storing all your save files. And the server is just a game install that loads it up.

Thats why you can freely move servers and be in a guild on each server, and everytime you switch you are still in that guild. Since your guild membership is server independent too. (you might not be able to talk or show up online on a guild on another server, but you arent removed from it, just offfline)

They just took advantage of this system to create temporary overflow servers where you get loaded into a world that is not a primary world, to let you play while you wait to get into your world.

I think they always make unique and great worlds, greatly detailed, their marketing just isn't up to snuff.

I played AoC multiple times, and I even play the free one still on occasion. The games are fun, and I find some of the AoC classes really unique. The story telling in AoC is pretty damn good too.

Flameseeker Chronicles: Memory lane and the delights of anticipation

I remember when I first picked up the original GW when it first came out. I had made an Elementalist/Necromancer and was enjoying the game quite a bit. I quit for the longest time, but I kept up with getting the expansions. Came back for a month with factions to try out Assassin and Ritualist. Nightfall much the same way. Then I came back to do pure PVP.

When I finally came back a few months ago to do 30/50 HoM for GW2, I went back to Pre and Post searing GW and the nostalgia hit hard, memories of my early years in GW. IT was quite nice.

Now I am done with GW, have my 30/50 and just anxiously waiting to make my Necromancer in GW2.

Unity 'skipping' Windows Phone 7

You know, I would care about Unity, but Developing using XNA is such a breeze, that we dont NEED unity. I am quite happy with my XNA. And if you really want a framework, get http://deltaengine.net/ it supports everything.

XBLA in Brief: Fusion Genesis

There is also a WP7 game from the same developer, released at the same time called Fusion: Sentient.

It links with your Xbox version and you can transfer sentients between the 2 and level them on the respective devices. It is pretty cool.

I got both and its fun playing it on the xbox, then syncing over to the WP7 version and playing a different game on my WP7 with the same sentient.

DCUO's free-to-play rollout has begun

Nope. To me its just a different pricing model. I don't judge a game based on how it make its money. I love a lot of F2P games, and lot of P2P, and I enjoy a lot of F2P games that were converted from P2P games. Its all good to me. I judge a game by PFF, Personal Fun Factor.

Mmm, I am actually going to give this a try now. I heard it was fun from early reviews, but I could never justify buying it. Maybe now that its F2P, I can give it a try.
