Behind the Curtain: A new take on quests?

Feb 7th 2008 3:33PM (Massively)
Part of the problem is the writing, its a common problem nowadays. There is no cohesive, interesting way of putting all the pieces together. Quests are merely XP fountains to advance to that next level, we don't really care why we need to kill 10 rats and collect 45 intestines, what we care about is the loot!. Writing does make a difference.
If MMOs were designed to be skill based then things would be different, you would not have a divided player base (how many times have we been kicked out of a group because our level wasnt high enough?). If you think about it most mmos, you fight the same type of enemies all the way through, the only difference is that now they have more digits in their life bar, everyhting else is the same.

Screens of the epic Lord of the Rings Online PvMP armor

Looks great, too bad PvMP is garbage. You either play as a doormat (monster/creeps) or the people of middle earth (freeps/your regualr class).

Are MMOs killing the single-player game?

Feb 5th 2008 1:29PM (Massively)
Its multiplayer games in general, more and more games offer some kind of mp, some games even go as far as to offer a single player campaign that can be played in co-op mode. Just the friend, co-op or mp factor makes the experience better imo.
Add to that an expansive world with tons of content in different flavors and you have something that decreases the appeal of single player games. Even The Witcher as great as it is, it doesnt have that replayability factor other mp games have.
