'The Last Exorcism': What Did You Think (of the Ending)?

Aug 30th 2010 10:53AM (Cinematical)
I have never heard that idea before. The idea of the host and split personality. That makes the ending make way more sense. Also the thing about Caleb too.

Thanks for the insight on that one. Now I understand more why one critic called it "the new Rosemary's Baby".

'The Last Exorcism': What Did You Think (of the Ending)?

Aug 29th 2010 9:29PM (Cinematical)
My wife and I saw this movie yesterday. We were both of the opinion that the movie was pretty creepy, although I had to avert my eyes a number of times due to the fact that shaky cam gives me horrible motion sickness.

I loved the interplay and the fact that Cotton seemed to feel responsible for the girl after the initial "exorcism." He came off as a charlatan, but more as one that still felt he was helping people. He may have been taking their money, but he still seemed to feel like he was doing the right thing.

I thought the ending took away a lot of the ambiguity of the possession. My wife thought it was fitting and even felt that the pastor (not Cotton, the other guy) seemed a bit "off" from the beginning.

My favorite part was the guy in the audience who yelled out "bullshit!" at the end and ranted all the way out that "this was the worst movie ever!" I think this movie was more of a character study shot in creepy circumstances. He was expecting the precursor to the next "Saw" movie. I really hope people keep making horrors like this (sans shakey cam please, I don't like feeling that way). While I didn't get the tension that I feel an inherent need in good horror, I still think that this is better than much of the drek thrown around as horror today.

Kitamura: From 'Midnight Meat' to 'Teratoma'

Jul 18th 2009 10:43AM (Horror Squad)
A teratoma is not just a large tumor. It's a tumor that forms as the result of absorbing your twin while in utero. When these types of tumors are removed, doctor's find them filled with hair, teeth, finger nails and other keratin type products.

So in other words, this will be "Fly meets Rosemary's Baby meets The Unborn".

Coders Crack the Netflix Cinematch Algorithm

Even knowing they could probably get paid to do this elsewhere, these programmers still spent the time to try and do it. Whether it was for the money, the prestige or just the challenge, they had to know the ultimate outcome.

I think there are many people out there who still do stuff for the challenge of it.

Of course, $1 million is not too shabby of a pay day for completing the challenge. And wouldn't signing the code over to Netflix for money technically be a sale? Definitely a chunk on the resume.

As soon as they do this for Spanish, I'm all over it. I would even pay if it had some kind of medical module. It would help me at my job and I may even be able to be reimbursed for it. Imagine getting paid to game...!
