One Shots: Nostalgic

Feb 15th 2010 3:10AM (Massively)
I have to say when i played the BETA I wasn't that impressed with the missions and storyline... but it appears I didn't get far enough to get into the nitty gritty. Now I'm inot those missions the main story missions are actually very enjoyable. Sure the actual gameplay is a little tedious (this is an MMO, after all), but the plot is cool, very Star Trek.

Hopefully it will continue and not peter out halfway through, incomplete, like some other things in the game.

Is SWTOR hype peaking too early?

Jun 2nd 2009 5:47PM (Massively)
Leave it out lads, all games get massive hype at E3. That's one of the reasons E3 happens every year, to hype upcoming games.

I don't see anyone getting up in arms about the publicity Mass Effect 2 or Assassin's Creed 2 are being given along with n to the power 5 other games that are getting a ton of hype poured over them at E3, some of which aren't due until well into 2010.

SWTOR is being singled out because it's a Star Wars project and everyone almost expects it to fail, partly because it's Star Wars and partly because of SWG. I placed a lot of faith in Bioware back in October to get the job done right and told everyone who asked me that they'd do good by the Old Republic IP like they had done before. I feel now a small part of that faith has been repaid, and I'm hoping to see even more repaid in the coming months.

I think Q4 2009 is a good release time for the game. Cold dark nights mean people in doors with nothing to do. Perfect time to release an MMO :D

How much do guilds matter?

Mar 25th 2009 5:02PM (Massively)
A good guild makes a game for me, good people who let you do your own thing, and also do guild events that are worth being there for. Goo guilds let you have fun, do your thing and don't push you around or cramp your style.

The long and the short is if you think being in a guild is oppressive and a waste of time you're in the *wrong guild*. I think I've been very lucky as most guilds I've joined have been great, with great people and good times.

To me having no guild is like me going to a bar and sitting on your own in silence with a drink. MMOs are social for me.

... and if you look REALLY closely you can see all the bits of cardboard, plywood, MDF and duct tape that it's built out of ;)

Phishing attempt targets EVE Online subscribers

Dec 22nd 2008 7:30PM (Massively)
I always advise that if anyone contacts you by e-mail about an MMOG account, or anything else like it, you go to the website manually in your browser (for EVE got to http://www.eve-online.com for example) and log from *their* login page in to see if the issue us mentioned.

Tabula Rasa goes free-to-play one month early

Dec 22nd 2008 4:16PM (Massively)
Little late to the ball here.

I only just realised this means it's actually free, now! Yipes. Client download is already in progress, I can see my Mac isn't gonna spend a lot of time in OS X over the Xmas break :D

I even bought a A1 wall poster while they were still (hopefully) available, so I have something to remember it by when it goes. But hey ya never know, NCSoft might make it free with Micro-transactions for stuff, it seems to be flavor of the month ATM :)

I had fun and met some great people, I always do in any MMOG I play, but the game didn't have that 'sticky' quality you want in a game like that. I got to a stage where I just couldn't be bothered to go back anymore.

I don't hate it, it just lacked some things I need in a game. It's a shame it's gonna go to the block in the end. It had a very unique character and a good sense of humour, it ultimately though wasn't enough to keep me grinding.

I will actually go back and play for a bit when it goes free-to-play just to remember the fun parts and play with the stuff in the last patches that I spent so many fruitless months waiting for.

I really hope the 'end' is a great event, it deserves to be remembered fondly, even if it was a bit flawed.

MMOGology: What will microtransactions mean for SWTOR?

Dec 22nd 2008 3:45PM (Massively)
I think that's pretty fair and I agree. I especially agree that Micro-transaction based games are preferred by casual gamers, as a casual gamer I get fed up of having to start and stop subs all the time when I got in and out of games like EVE, I'd prefer to just be able to roll up when I want to and play, and pay for what I want to pay for.

I really won't mind if it's M/T based as long as the exchange rate is fair (i.e. lots of credits to the dollar ;)) and it's not an obstacle to enjoying the game.
