EVE Evolved: All there is to know about DUST 514

Jan 1st 2012 6:21PM (Massively)
"The fact that mouse and keyboard controls would give PC players a massive advantage over console gamers is usually cited as the reason the game can't come to the PC too, but I don't buy that; several PS3 games already have USB mouse and keyboard support."

Brendan, I think that a PS3-only launch is a positive thing - especially given CCP's problems this year with spreading themselves too thin. Instead of trying to support console and PC development simultaneously at such an early stage in DUST 514's life, I think it's a sound decision to invest in making one version rock-solid. It's less likely to result in a damaging failure.

CCP talks flying in space, says EVE is a healthy subscriber-based game

@(Unverified) Buggering hell. I meant "newest information on the LEFT"

CCP talks flying in space, says EVE is a healthy subscriber-based game

@(Unverified) That graph goes right to left. Newest information on the right. They really ought to change it, I see people quote it as evidence of fail literally weekly.

EVE Evolved: Upgrading to a PvP cruiser: Minmatar and Caldari

Oh geez, I'm going to get sucked back into this game, aren't I?

The Tattered Notebook: Auctioning raid loot, place bids now!

"lower-level members who are working on playing catch-up have an easier time getting caught up on raid gear, meaning less "back-farming" for guilds... for every piece of gear that a member buys, there's one less piece a casual guild has to farm"

Less time spent hitting the pellet dispenser? I don't see Blizzard rushing to drop Bind On Pickup!

Massively's EVE Online Tyrannis contest, part 3: Fiction-writing contest

FIREFLIES

Jessica sat on Daddy's shoulders as they walked home through the long grass. She curled her hands playfully in his thinning hair and tugged. Daddy grimaced and laughed, then reached up with one big hand to grab her two small ones. "Jessie, dear, don't do that," he smiled, looking back up at her, "you'll pull the last of it..."

Daddy's voice trailed off. Jessie tried to balance as she turned to see what he did. "Pretty!" Thousands of tiny lights were flashing in the evening sky, like stars dancing back and forth, circling each other, flaring into bright flowers. Bright beams reached out from the sky castle to turn the little dots into fireflies. It was sooooo beautiful!

"Not as pretty as you," Daddy sighed sadly. Jessie thought she would paint him a picture of the fireflies later, at home, before she went to bed.

EVE Evolved: A year of EVE Evolved - 5 most popular articles

The most useful article for me was the guide to probing in Apocrypha. I really didn't relish the idea of getting into the game and experimenting - I just want to learn how things work, and then go out and do them!

And a big thanks to Brendan and all of Massively's other EVE contributors for giving a fairly niche game the coverage it deserves.

Star Wars MMO announced as The Old Republic

Oct 21st 2008 7:11PM (Massively)
Oh joy, another MMO based around choosing an irreversible class? Real life doesn't make you choose "plumber" and stick with it (even Mario got to have adventures) so why do I have to be labeled a "Hunter" until the end of time (or the company)?

AGDC08: The meaning of life in EVE Online really is 42 (no joke)

@possum: Even if only 10-15% of those 300,000 *active* accounts are online at any one time, the other 90% still have their skills quietly ticking away, market orders up, mailboxes running - and could show up in the game world at any time. So just because only 10% is 'running hot' at any one time doesn't mean the remainder is forgotten about.

Take the 'city' analogy: maybe you won't have more than 10% of people driving on the roads at any one time, but the city still needs to cope with the needs of the other 90%.

Go read an EVE quarterly economic report - you'll see that CCP's playerbase figures only include active, paid account (and not the extra two characters on most accounts). And so what if some people have more than one account? It's not like people with two accounts require any LESS server power than two accounts owned by different individuals (especially if the multi-account holders are dual-boxing).
