@Dblade Well aren't you the optimistic one.

Old EVE portraits to be backed up -- log in today for high-res captures

Sable Blitzmann and Kiara V'Sal (I think, can't ever remember her last name)

I plan on resubbing later this week, but that's... well, later this week.

EVE Online dropping support for old CPUs

These people have no excuse. Seriously. You can get a P4 and a motherboard to support it for about $50. If you can't afford that while throwing away $15 a month on internet spaceships, then there's no help for you. Worst case, you can get a loan from your corp or whatever so you can pay via PLEX and save the real money for an upgrade.

The Daily Grind: Will Incarna get you to try EVE?

There are many PvE elements to it also. Wormholes, for instance. And their upcoming Winter expansion is set to introduce more PvE stuff.

But yes, it's PvP-centered.

The Daily Grind: Will Incarna get you to try EVE?

Sep 27th 2010 1:45PM (Massively)
This argument is so old.

First off, do you really expect them to open a new server alongside their existing one? Please note that EVE is run on what amounts to be a -very- expensive supercomputer... and you want then to acquire a new one?

Or do you just want them to reset the current server? Because that's a lot more unfair to the players who have been playing for years...

Second, skillpoints mean nothing. This is a fact that most people don't seem to get. What's more important are your tactics and experience. A one year player can beat a five year player if they're both flying the same ships. Yes, higher skillpoints in an area means more versatility, but if you don't know ho0w to fly that shiny new 100M ISK ship it's as good as lost. And then you have to take into consideration that many people have millions of skillpoints focused on industry and trading, not on combat. Thus, a relatively new play can easily beat an old industrialist if they don't have the combat experience.

A Dust 514 novel may be in the works

These kind of comments are unwelcome. CCP has shown that they are dedicated to tackling lag through their devblogs; it's not a simple quick fix.

And yes, having a writer on staff, along with -console- development teams working on an engine not designed for eve, will definitely help fix the lag. =/

EVE player destroys over $1000 worth of game time

Aug 8th 2010 9:11PM (Massively)
False.

Nobody lost money due to this. The only implications this has is in-game. This is how the PLEX system works:

Someone buys a 2x PLX for about $30 and sells it on the market. Someone else comes along and buys it from them. CCP doesn't lose money from the guy buying the PLEX because they were already payed by the guy who sold the PLEX.

Now, this poor bloke that lost 74 PLEX. He most likely bought them from several other players who were selling them. Those sellers got the ISK they intended to get when the poor bloke bought from them. So they are find -- they didn't waste $1,000+ because they all got the ISK they wanted.

Now the guy who got blown up -- he spent 22bil ISK (in-game money) to buy all those PLEX. When they are destroyed, the only thing that happened is he LOST his in-game money. The only way that this could have impacted your real-life wallet is if he personally bought $1,000+ worth of PLEX and then got blown up. Then yes, he just lost $1,000+.

The game revolves around risk and gamble. Unfortunatley, this guy risked way too much, but has provided the community at large with huge amounts of lulz. Thank you aystra.

You do know that graphcs are handled by the client machine, and not the server right? The only thing the server will do is keep track of where people are, gfx processing is on client side. If you're gfx card can handle it, it should be no problem.

EVE Online giving players free holiday gift: the Zephyr

Dec 16th 2009 5:28AM (Massively)
These ships are not irreplaceable -- just limited in supply.

You'll be able to buy these via contracts for years. However, as the supply thins out, their price will go up (just as with any other RL vehicle).

So you'll always be able to buy one if you really want it at least
