Mar 22nd 2011 11:03AM (Massively)That's the problem with having faith in humanity.... Especially in the 13-25 male gamer market, which still dominates the industry.
@fakeassname
If you didn't see the snark and irony laced in that comment, I pity you. However, I was admittedly +1 troll mode there, so I guess you validated my intention of heightening this farce of a controversy
This issue, as with most issues, is 1% actual concern, and 99% hype to keep us reading. :P

Mar 22nd 2011 10:06AM (Massively)I call it, "The Modesty Slider".
Choose your own slut-venture? I'll stop now.
FWIW, I think Rift has done an excellent job at breaking the trend, with all their ankle length Amish dresses, I mean hauberks...
Maybe we should just provide the full Sharia and let all women opt in Burqas too, just so they can feel comfortably androgynous and oppressed if they want too, it's all about the user experience after all. Oh, wait, then if some women are showing some calf, they might be tempted... better to put ALL of the women in full full mummy mode, just to make everyone comfortable.
If you're going to use the "personal comfort" issue to grand-stand on, then you've got to go the full monty, after all.
RIFT's head-start is standing room only
Feb 25th 2011 2:51PM (Massively)Single servers are not really single, anyways, and even in these separated logical servers, Trion has already said that different functions are split up between many physical servers. So when they say they added 10 servers, they really just added about 50 blade servers and tied them to a logical, clustered server instance.
While holistic clustering could work, you then get into the area population controls. LOTRO fises this with something they call layering, which is a technological feat that I feel is largely overlooked in the MMO scene. True area population based, dynamic logical server splitting already exists. Hopefully Trion can add that in when they eventually combine servers. They even have on-demand layer switching, where you could switch layers to join other party members. Really a slick setup. If LOTRO just wasn't so damn old... lol. (I kid, I kid)
In games like EVE and World of Tanks (single servers), your community itself controls the area population simply by extension of the games design. You control areas or have stations and mines and blahblahblah. Players aren't trying to all gank the same field boss, they're trying to kill each other. That generally encourages natural separation :) (Sorry if I'm wrong on WOT, haven't played it or read much on it, just assuming)

Feb 21st 2008 9:55PM (Autoblog Green)So CO2 is nastiness? I assume you mean it's nasty because it's a greenhouse gas?
Guess what WATER IS THE #1 GREENHOUSE GAS ON THE PLANET.
Yup, 95% water, 3%C02, and then Methane and some other lesser concentrations of gases.
Oh, and pound-for-pound, 02 is more potent than C02 for good old greenhouse effect.
Idiots. Hybrid technology that increases 02 in the atmosphere is actually going to INCREASE the greenhouse effect.
So should we label water as "nastiness" now?
