On lag and communication: Two interrelated issues

Jan 23rd 2009 6:05PM (WoW)
Move to a new server you say? You're a genius!

First of all most players won't ever even experience this lag unless they try and do a 25man raid. It has only recently (since 3.0.8) spilled out into the outdoor zones. So in all likelihood your little noob hunter trying to find mankrik's wife in the barrens never feels the pain.

Second, this isn't affecting all servers. Someone on wow forums did a rough estimate based on requested lag responses in this thread: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=14318941110&sid=1 ... there are something like 94 servers that apparently are experiencing no issues. That's 94 out of what... 300? So maybe you're just a lucky dumbass.

Third, I did transfer (along with my guild) from a server that was so bad that the instance servers would lag so hard they would lock up our toons for hours (as in, log in the next day to get them back... in weird places like Elwynn Forest). Guess how the new super low population transfer only server is? JUST AS BAD.

Thanks for the tip though. ;)

What?

This is totally an excellent, hard-hitting piece of investigative journalism.

Oh wait... no it's not. Adam is just being a Blizzard apologist.

WoW's pre-Wrath patch still keeping servers down

Oct 14th 2008 10:32PM (Massively)
Yea... those servers that are "up" aren't stable either. They're buggy and they keep kicking you off.

It's a disaster... and that on top of pushing old code to the live servers instead of the most recent PTR build we all tested (http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/10/14/breaking-news-patch-3-0-2-will-not-contain-all-major-class-chan/)

The Daily Grind: By Crom?

I spent all day today and most of last week hoping Massively would actually do some AoC coverage. Instead we get this cheap journalism trick where the readers supply the story.

Yay!

AoC Early Access program sold out

May 14th 2008 5:35PM (Massively)
This doesn't bode well for FunCom. Pre-Orders were sold with deceptive advertising promising a 3 day advance. Apparently many retailers weren't on the ball and haven't even provided the pre-order keys to their customers yet... and then FunCom pulls the rug out from under them?

I don't know. After the fishy "open beta" this just seems like another big miss when it comes to customer relations.

It's a PR disaster imo.

Chatter changes your chat for the cheddar! Er, better

Apr 13th 2008 2:06PM (WoW)
Sorry... I need to specify. It's actually two different things I'm looking for:

1. Channel Renumbering.
2. Channel Remembering (rejoin channels EVERY time)

Chatter changes your chat for the cheddar! Er, better

Will it help remember my chat channels and renumber them in the order I want?

Prat does the renumbering but it's bad at remembering them and for whatever reason blizzard nukes my channels every month or so.

Finding out your HKO Marriage Index

Most other sites did something like change the title banner/graphic or something simple. They didn't inundate us with fake crap all day.

We get it. April Fools! Whoopee. Unfunny 8 hours later... End this hello kitty charade and get back to reporting actual WoW news.

PTR is down, TTR is up

Yessss. No major Shaman changes! I get to spend another patch cycle bitching about lack of dev attention.

Learn how to get imba with Be Imba!

Feb 28th 2008 9:12AM (WoW)
It's been around for a little while and was working fine. We even added it to our guild app page as a link the applicant has to provide. My guess is that every time something cool and armory based comes out it stresses out the underpowered US armory servers.

Problem is the US armory blows. It's slow and frequently doesn't even provide results when it does work. be.imba requires a working armory to provide data.

Same with wowjutsu... which unfortunately has been suffering while the armory is struggling.
