The Daily Grind: What's your favorite starting zone?

Nov 18th 2010 12:34AM (Massively)
Shire. Love it. It's kind of a bummer that you can outlevel the entire zone in half an hour running one quest line since they sped up leveling.

Gee, cranking out tons of very similar mediocre titles was unsuccessful? Amazing.

The Road to Mordor: Horton hears a patch

Nov 1st 2010 12:47PM (Massively)
Awesome, I could do without the new influx of wankers in /ooc and /advice around bree/shire but if this patch is anything to go by F2P is already paying off for longtime subs like me.

I think the biggest problem going forward is that the last few book expansions have been super samey they really need to do more for the next zone than just reskin some monsters and make a new set of bronze/silver/gold tokens to collect.

Especially the music, there is some great music in the first 40 levels, Moria fits the zone but gets old fast and the new zones are just random notes and wooshing sounds.

The Soapbox: Episode II - A New Hype

When this was first announced I was pretty jazzed, both because the trailer was great and because Bioware was the best in the business for RPGs. Start Wars I am meh about KOTR was good but the movies are not nearly as good as they were when I was ten.

But in the time since then Bioware is stumbling, they seem to have had their soul sucked out as soon as they were bought/merged. ME 2 and DA 2 are both steps backward from the first game to appeal to lowest common denominator console dullards. That this comes from the company who not only made uber-nerd games like Neverwinter Nights but also made tons of money off those games is super disappointing and points to TOR being not just a KOTR MMO but a very generic lowest-common-denominator MMO.

I always reserve judgment till it is released, but for now I have gone from must-buy to could care less.

Note that if you had the expansions once upon a time they are still attached to your account, I recently bought Eye of the North for 13$ and have access to all the campaigns once I logged into my old account.

The Soapbox: Don't hate the game, hate the copy

WoW is not Lost, WoW is facebook. Not better really, but it is the one your friend plays so you are stuck with it.

The Daily Grind: What do you think about travel in MMOs?

Oct 12th 2010 11:21AM (Massively)
Travel time is the tasteless filler of video games, about as immersive as eating packing peanuts. Riding a boat to another continent is interesting the first two times, after that it is just a way to make you play the game longer and keep paying your subscription longer by slowing down everything you do.

I agree with the above, LotRO got it right, you have to explore to get somewhere and may have to ride the whole trip a few times but after that you can teleport cheaply. WoW etc. got it wrong.

Braaaaainssss: First details about Undead Labs' zombie MMO revealed

Ugh, not only console only but the jab at the 'PC MMO Paradigm'. Because of course the reason WoW gameplay is slow, repetitive and uninvolved is the hardware it runs on right? No one could possibly make a fantastic zombie shooting game on a PC right?

I encourage the hack you are quoting to urinate up a rope.

LEGO Universe lets pre-order customers start extra early

I love Minecraft but why on earth would these games be in competition? Neither seems to require enormous amounts of time or a huge amount of money and they provide different gameplay by a mile.

Really wish there was someplace one could get reviews/opinion about MMOS that was not overrun by very angry haters, most of these games are pretty amazing accomplishments even if I personally do not like them but judging by the comments here every single mmo ever made is a steaming pile of excreta being forced down our throats by cruel slave-masters.

Flameseeker Chronicles: Of dungeons, stats, and transmutation

Worry? Why? It is a game. If it seems like a bad deal once it is released I will not buy it. However, I would be very surprised if this is the case.
