Choose My Adventure: Dark Age of Camelot, week four

Apr 4th 2012 1:16PM (Massively)
I don't know if you read my advice last week but, If your against a caster use your spells as interrupts do not spam them all at once on the target use them to get in close to him. Once you get in close you will destroy him with your two hand.

If your in group combat, back in the day we had a main assist usually a Berzerker or Warrior and we would assist, stick/face and own instantly.

My mom (yes I said it) was an amazing Skald back in the day. I would follow her with my cave shaman. Everyone thought I was a buff bot so I got no attention at all lol. When not assisting the main tank she would keep the healers from the other realms on lock down.

You noticed I said back in the day a couple of times, its been a few years so some tactics might not work as well, or at all anymore. But with a game that has seen such minimal love over the years i'm pretty sure these will still work lol.

@Pasha

EA rushes developers to finish games, and while yes this game should of been done earlier it was not done so. So what EA gets is mass canceled subs. I really though they learned their lesson with Warhammer. Its the same with their console games.

They just keep changing the cover athlete and number on the Madden box and people keep going out day one and OMG gotta get the new Madden, Hey no new features!!! At least I get to play with Tebow as a Jet! When a simple roster update could do this as well.

Until people stop buying their stuff by the hundreds of millions they are not going to stop this. They are amazing at advertising their games, I have to give them that much.

I played this game for a bit, never put any money into it but its a real unique model for a game. Just a little to rich for my taste lol. If I had that much money i'd put it into real life investments. But who am I to talk that guys a millionaire, hes the smart one.

awesome count me in!, My account got hacked by a gold farmer a year ago. I was unsubscribed at the time but kept getting emails about password changes and such.

So I called up customer support and they got me back my account and left the time on there that the farmer bought lol.

When I left my character was lvl 29, low and behold when I log in my character was maxed out in decent gear and TONS of money. I was overwhelmed with all the new abilities and at the time was really into another game so I only played about an hour.

So I should be set up when f2p arrives, I'm just going to make a new character. I bet that farmer lost like 5 months food. Eh no skin off me I mean if your going to farm at least use your own account..... It's a whole new low by taking inactive accounts to farm with.

The Daily Grind: Which MMO doesn't get the respect it deserves?

Apr 3rd 2012 1:29PM (Massively)
I want to give a shoutout to every MMO ever made and every developer thats worked on one. It takes so much time to make the game, not to mention the financials that have to be put at stake. Years and years of development and when your done making your game, you get no break at all and no matter how great of a beta you had. Your going to have tons of bugs to fix day one. After the constant complaints and dropped subs after one month because of all the bugs.You have to start making content for the future. After a year of no sleep and probably hardly making enough to cover development cost. Its time to start developing your first expansion!

When that expansion comes out your going to have people that miss the original content and will cancel their subs, oh you just got done fixing all the bugs in the original game? Well congratulations here is a new swarm of bugs in the expansion.

The developers on their first coffee break in years look at their forums to see how they are doing only to see 100,000 trolls and 100 threads with the title your game sucks, spend more time on development next time k thx bai...

Its a non stop process and takes extreme dedication by the developers. So again I want to give props and a big thank you to every MMO developer out there. I could never in a million years do what you do!

@Jef Reahard

I agree with you here, Darkfall is a great idea and enjoyed playing it for the couple of months I gave it. (Could not compete with the macro crowd they had a couple of years head start) and I'm glad they are working on 2.0 even though we don't know what it is.

But we waited long enough for Darkfall to come out. My guild personally waited for FOREVER for Darkfall to come out. Finally we just gave up on it and played other games. Even when it did come out most of us just stayed away from it. The beta did not impress us for the amount of time spent in development.

With that being said If there is a character wipe, I'll be there resubbed day one. So I can have the upper hand! :P The gameplay is great and the only problem I have is to compete with the best you have to swim against a pole for hours a day for months.

90% of my time spent playing was pushing the macro crowd off their poles and watching them run into the forest knowing eventually they will meet their doom lol......

I started getting ganked alot 8- (

The Daily Grind: Is maintenance mode better than nothing at all?

Apr 2nd 2012 1:03PM (Massively)
About a year ago I gave the Vanguard 14 day trial a shot and loved the game. At that same time the vets were mumbling about no content updates. It got so bad I just quit their negativity wore off on me.

Personally in my opinion if you do not like a game quit. Don't keep giving away money, or developers will think its ok to justify the 'Maintenance Mode" Go play another game. Let the newbs have fun for a while.

My point is Its much better keeping a game going without updates than just shut it down. There will always be people out there that the content will be new to.

I never gave SWG a shot, I kept putting it on the back burner and now the game is gone.

Shadowbane was an amazing game now its gone.

Now granted there are emulators for both games in the works but its just not the same to me.

I almost think of it as pages of mmo history getting ripped out of the history books, and the younger generation of mmo gamers will never be able to experience these games to their potential.

The Daily Grind: What MMO would you bring to the proverbial desert island?

Mar 30th 2012 10:00AM (Massively)
Probably a Sandbox game like Darkfall or Shadowbane (if it was still going), just for the endlessness of the content, if I had to go any other direction it would probably be GW2.

The Daily Grind: Would you pay extra for a filtered community?

Mar 29th 2012 10:39AM (Massively)
@smartstep

I agree with smart, I'd pay extra but not too much extra and there would have to be harsh rules against chuck norris jokes and such. I remember hating the chat in WoW. Yeah I could of ignored it but at the same time I like chating with like-minded individuals that are just out to have fun. But the haters and trolls eventually took over every zone chat to the point if you asked for a group you would get flamed. Its probably the leading reason why I left WoW.

Such a huge part of a mmo is the community and I really think something needs to get done to match people up with people that are alike in personality.

But on another note I really don't know why we should get charged for this. Let all the trolls have their servers but reserve one for educated young people and older people that don't care to listen to all the junk. I don't see where any extra cost would come for them. Maybe a couple of more mods. But heck just take a couple from the trolls servers they don't warrant much moderation anyway.

Choose My Adventure: Dark Age of Camelot, week three

This is quite disturbing, I guess the subs are really going down. Last year when I re-subbed for a month, the low lvl BG's were packed. I got to lvl 30 in two days of very casually playing.

You were probably breaking your Mez with your DD spells. If your going against casters save your DD's to interrupt their casting to get into melee range.

Daoc requires thought while playing, Its not like most games these days where you just pew pew all your skills in a row until their cool down is up, I mean you can play like that and you will win some fights, but your going to get owned by veterans. This sounded mean I'm totally not trying to be mean lol. I'm really trying to help as I was in your boat when I started.

Just remember that almost everything you do will interrupt casting and that will make your Skald shine vs. casters. Once you get in close your two hand will melt through them.

Grouping fixes everything, try to find a English person to group with lol again I was not trying to flame you in this post DAOC has a STEEP learning curve.
