The Daily Grind: Would you pay for an MMO's mobile app?

Jan 17th 2012 11:18AM (Massively)
I am kind of at a weird point in my life, where I am shifting my views on what I think is a good idea and what I used to think was a bad idea.

Take SWTOR. I'd pay $1-3 a month for an iOS app that lets me have companions do stuff, hit trade house, and perhaps some basic email/in game chat, and some recipe/db stuff.

I also really liked the pre-registration forums for guilds, the idea of having your guild integrated with the core website was nice. If they added more options for the guild forums, perhaps a way to see your guildmates gear and stats integrated with the website and the game. We'd have easily paid $10-20 a month as a guild for such a functionality.

I think if you offer cool enough services, features, above and beyond content, then monthly charges are valid and I would not mind paying them.

Taito's RayForce hits iOS for ... more than you'd expect

Is this universal? does it work with iCade? If it met both of those criteria, I'd pay 9.99

Humble Indie Bundle 4 abused by Scrooge-like Steam scamming

Where do Linux people spend their money? I have known so many Linux admins at various companies, and they always have the shabbiest of clothes, cars, equipment, but I know for a fact that these people were making $80-100k. Are they hoarding it all away or what?

'Battlefield 2143' easter egg hidden in Back to Karkand DLC

@HandsomeBoyGraduate No, there is no denying consoles are a huge part of the overall gaming market, if not the largest. I much prefer these games on PC, but that doesn't mean I don't understand why they make them for both. As long as the controls are right on each system, game on!

I too am hoping that it's an expansion pack for BF3, that'd be awesome. Too many games out right now, too much coming, I have not even purchased BF3 yet (but I will). If this came out I'd jump on both in a heartbeat.

The Daily Grind: What game do you think never looks good in screenshots?

Dec 11th 2011 5:26PM (Massively)
@Miffy Without a doubt, hands down, Fallen Earth. This game looks terrible in screenshots and quite attractive in person.

@Pasha Quite possible that people are taking notice that the MMO market is so competitive now, that you can't just release crap and patch it, the initial impression is so important.

EverQuest to hackers: You've been served

Dec 3rd 2011 6:10PM (Massively)
This is a complete and utter lie. Part of why I quit playing on Fippy Darkpaw was because 90% of the players cheat, my own guildmates even. Some abuse it to no end, while the majority seem to think it's OK to just use it as a radar. It is so out of control now, if they truly starting banning people, there would be nobody left. They screwed up, let it go on for ... damn near a decade, too late now, and everyone knows it. All they will do is ban some to hope to fear people into not using it, but doubtful.

Chair on Infinity Blade 2 development crunch: It sucked

Dec 1st 2011 1:22PM (Joystiq)
The correct way to not just make this lip service is fat bonuses for the team that had to do the crunch, at least a one to two week vacation independent from their regular PTO, and raises come review time. If they don't do that, he's just telling them what they want to hear.

The Daily Grind: Would a closed beta key giveaway convince you to try a new game?

Nov 29th 2011 9:17AM (Massively)
@Space Cobra What he said. If it resembles something I'd enjoy, I give it a shot even if I have not heard or cared much about it. That also depends on if I am engrossed in a game already, in which case I'd like not bother trying to get in the BETA.

NYT: Rovio shot down $2.25 billion Zynga acquisition

@birdizzle87 It wasn't even the first is the thing. I have played better versions of the same game.

That said, if this conjecture is true, that companies are turning down offers based off protecting their employees/brands, then that makes me happy. If true, it's quite cool, and quite rare to see.
