@werewood

While technically true, I think the lack of class is conducive to the feeling of personalization and customization, two feelings that are at the heart of a sandbox and are commonly disregarded by themeparks.

Nice screen caps. Judging from this and your CDC rundown of it yesterday, I would definitely say this is looking more like a sandpark, but that's certainly not a bad thing. Sure, in a perfect world of escapist indulgence, we'd love every game to be spade and bucket to the nines, but given that cotton candy and rail are that status quo, I'll settle on a triple a sandpark.

GDC 2012: The Secret World's crafting, combat (and cutscenes) revealed

" If you've never watched a lesbian makeout scene alongside a half dozen sweaty male game journos (and a couple of pretty PR girls), well, let's just say that it's hilarious to think about now and fairly awkward to actually experience." LMAO... wow. Glad I didn't have to sit through that in person.

I'm actually very impressed by what they're trying to do with the crafting, considering the lackluster throw-away crafting in AoC. AoC's was so bad that it's surprising that this is coming from the same company.

Yay, no classes. *dancing bear*

That sounds waaaaay easier than I thought it was going to be and cool as heck. Now if only I could wring more time from my schedule. Argh!

Score 1 for the Sandbox Rebellion™!

Raph Koster: Immersion is not a core game virtue

Sad, beautiful, and true. And more to the point that an escapist's kind of game was never meant for the multitudes because they're simply not like us. I like the way he painted that portrait.

And that's why I ask for one refuge that caters to the dreamer. Let the multitudes have the rest. Isn't there room in the Great MMO-verse for us to have one planet... oh, that's right, we had one and they destroyed it for the sake of another called SW:TOR.

Some Assembly Required: In defense of player-driven story

@ DBlade

Sounds like you were playing the wrong sandbox. I never encountered any type of forced PvP in SWG. Also, the discussion is which MMO is better for roleplay, games that facilitate player-generated story or games where you have no tools to facilitate player generated story.
