Bring your pals to The Old Republic with a newly extended Friends Trial

@Carolina
If they went with the industry standard 2 week demo instead of 7 days or weekends lots of people would finish the game during the trial period.

Flameseeker Chronicles: What's your golden carrot?

@OptimusPrimeisOP

This is how I feel as well. It's how all MMOs should be right out of the box, before there's even a thought about populating a cash shop.

I said "it's the exact same thing as those drop boxes in other games except in reverse."

I guess that can be looked at in a positive light as well. In STO if you don't want to participate, you still have to see the boxes and they fill up your inventory unless you turn off autoloot. At least in GW2 if you don't want participate, you don;t have to see all the oddly placed, "makes no sense being there", chests all over the place. It requires 'magic glasses'

That's where it ties into my OP - those treasure finding buffs are like 'magic glasses' but instead of seeing things all over that other people can't, you're paying to make the magic glasses randomly spawn items in your line of site.

It might be only me, but it just doesn't sound right to me. It's weird to me that people would pay to do that.

I didn't say anything about an advantage item or unique items. I just meant that it was weird that you could pay more for the additional excitement of possibly finding something in the game - I mean, if you need more excitement, logically you were thinking "this is kind of boring, it needs something" so you pay $5 to go out and make exploring "more fun"

Finding something in the world means nothing if you paid to put it there. It's not part of the world and therefore not part of the game GW2. I suppose it's part of the GW2 Cash Shop Game though. It's not an accomplishment or a 'win.' It's not like anyone could have found it, but you did. Anyone else who paid the $5 could find it too. Conversely anyone who didn't pay the $5 couldn't.

I guess I just don't understand the drive behind buying something like the 'treasure finder' - it's the exact same thing as those drop boxes in other games except in reverse.

If they've created an actual world you shouldn't need a carrot. You'd just want to see the world - that's what exploring is.

Of course, if you need a carrot in GW2 you can just buy one. You can get one of those +x% treasure finder buffs and pay for the possibility that you may randomly find a carrot and make it all worth while.

Don't get me wrong; not a hater - I want to play this, but does that not sound weird to anyone else?

yeah, seriously - not all of us are kids. Some of us are professionals who wouldn't even begin to consider allowing video games to "post as you" on Facebook.

This whole concept is backwards.
