It has so many issues (especially nowadays), yet it's the only MMORPG I've played for months at a time as opposed to several minutes or days. Not my first MMO, but certainly my favorite. I wish it wasn't so, as I hold as a standard when comparing it to other games. I suppose that's why I dislike the majority of MMOs I try. Mabinogi is a truly unique experience that can't be found elsewhere.
It's not so much that it's click to move (as I've played a number of MMOs that are click to move and never thought twice) or that there's no jump mechanic, it's that the controls themselves are terrible. I've yet to play an MMO with such shoddy controls/camera.
I tried playing L2 in a private server a few years ago after my friend begged me to join, I quit 30 minutes later due to the controls. And this was coming off of playing Mabinogi (click to move, no jumping) for 6 months. When L2 became F2P, I figured I'd give it another shot. Played for a few hours, same deal. Bailed due to the controls, as did my other friend who was giving it a try.
Maybe it's just me, but moving in that game seems wonky as hell.
Took the words right out of my mouth. I've already experienced this whole song and dance with Ubisoft. They killed off the Splinter Cell series (at least for me) with the release of Conviction. It's 2012 ya'll, big budget niche games can't exist in today's market! Thanks to all of the casual gamers out there, we get "dumbed down," streamlined games that lack any sort of complexity or depth.
There use to be a time where developers would create a game for a specific audience. Their goal wasn't to make a trillion dollars and have it be a global brand. But hey, got to make that money, right? Well that's great for them, can't say the same for myself.
What new reality is that? You do realize that despite having fully voiced dialog, you're still doing the same ol' thing. Go here and kill 10 of these. Go here and flip this switch. Go here, retrieve this item and bring it back to me. Do all of this while I give you some half-assed justification as to why you're my errand boy!
To be honest, the only time I sat back and thought; "Man, this feels like KOTOR!" was during my class quests. Unfortunately, those quests are too few and far between for my liking.
It's the same shit with an enhanced wrapper. Riveting.
Nowadays, MMORPGs tend to cater to the lowest common denominator. That goes for gaming in general. Anything that requires a bit of skill, patience, creativity and an open mind is shunned by the masses.
I pray this game will deliver as it's my most anticipated MMORPG at the moment. This genre NEEDS games like Archeage.
Your family appreciates the game, I wonder if they appreciate your childish logic? My inability to create a comparable (or superior) product should not discredit any criticism I, or any one else has towards said product. I can't manufacture a car, does that mean a Geo Metro is a world class automobile? Of course not. Might as well stop reviewing/critiquing commercial products (or press releases) of any kind because hey, if you can't create it yourself, you must not have a valid opinion! Do you realize how idiotic you sound?
There's nothing outlandish about questioning the lack of innovation in SWTOR. I've payed for the game, I'm currently at level 28 and I feel the same way. That's why I cancelled my subscription. Others will feel differently, that's the beauty of it.
Most enjoyable MMORPG I've ever played, hands down. Followed by CoH.
I've tried countless MMOs over the years both new and old, F2P and P2P, but none of them drew me in like Mabinogi. I was "addicted" to the game (on two separate occasions) for quite some time, which is exactly what I want out of an MMO. It really set the standard for how I view the genre. Unfortunately, there is no other game quite like it. Most MMOs hold my attention for a few hours at best. Anything beyond that I consider a huge success! Which is a shame, because conceptually I love this genre.
Sure, it was a money drain, the lag was atrocious at times (especially if you're not on the west coast) the engine is beyond obsolete and Nexon treats their users like unwanted step-children, but the positives outweigh the negatives in my opinion. With that said, the game started to take a dive in 2010 when they scrapped the Premium service (to everyone's discontent)
I tried going back to the game for the third time earlier this fall, but it was a nightmare. Housing board didn't work, more glitches than usual, the economy was in the trash due to all of the item/gold duping that took place in the summer. Not to mention the constant devaluing of "rare" items due to all of the events. Dye amps were 500K plus on Alexina. 500k. I saw that and logged off. Mabinogi has definitely seen brighter days.

I love and loathe this generation of gaming.
