I don't know why Trion keeps touting the Chronicles as solo content when it's not. Maybe if you're raid geared or have the right class/spec, but last I checked all but the tutorial were turned for 2 players and trying to do it solo was painful and frustrating.
It's an interesting precedent but it was only set because of the real world violence involved that made it a prosecutable crime in the first place. If the victim had been held up virtually, the boys responsible wouldn't have even been arrested.
Now that has happened though, it does have rather odd implications for a game like EVE Online. Are gate campers that demand players drop their cargo or be destroyed actual, prosecutable criminals under Dutch law!? O.o
Depends on the game and how well they're done. In a game like WoW clearly the monsters are better (I want to stab people who ride the damned motorcycles).
Overall though? Define "mount". Are ships in Star Trek Online or EVE Online mounts? You can collect them independently of your character just like mounts, and have dozens of them pocketed away awaiting use. If those count, then mechanized wins hands down. Customizable combat mounts ftw.
When I was doing it, I found Incarnate progress to be pretty quick. I didn't get to the very top tier in each of my five incarnate powers, but I got to the next one down in every power in just a couple of weeks of casual play (earning the +3 level shift).
It only gets slow if you want to collect and upgrade multiple powers for each of the incarnate slots. For completionists the Incarnate system is a massive time sink. Fortunately for me, I was more than happy to have one power in each slot and that was enough.
Sadly this update isn't going to do anything to bring me back, as at this point in the game I'm really only interested in the Incarnate system, but that's not enough content to justify a subscription by itself, yet I have to subscribe if I want to participate in that content.
@CitizenH, I've been playing the game off and on since early beta. I have over 4 years of subscribed time. I think I've paid plenty of money into CoH's development, but I'm still locked out of the Incarnate system unless I give them even more. I'd be happy to pay a one time price to unlock the system, but not going to pay month after month for what is a relatively small amount of content. Paragon's stance on this is stupid. They don't have to give it away for free, they can charge for it piecemeal like most sensible F2P games.
Good info, and that one analyst was only off by $300 million in his estimate! :P
I think a retention rate of 75 to 90% is overly optimistic though. Not because there's anything really wrong with the game, just I don't think MMOs ever retain numbers like that. Maybe WoW did (dunno), but not in general.
These results were entirely predictable. I predicted them on my blog and I'm not even a game developer. Bioware really really should have known better.
I'm not level 50 yet and nowhere near Ilum, so this affects my gameplay not at all, but it was a stupid change and they should have known it was a stupid change.
I picked Allods simply because the last time I tried it (just a couple of months ago) I found it still extremely grindy and filled with even more obtuse game mechanics than when it first "launched" a couple years back. It still seems to be brutally punishing anyone who doesn't spend money in the cash shop, but maybe that's just me.
Be interested to see someone else's take on the game, especially one that couldn't bail after a couple of hours and has to stick it out.
