From this I look forward to Vanguard (I like the look of the dark art renders you've been posting, even if I'm not crazy about opening a Station account, but I'll pop my head round the door to see how the game itself is), Aion (so prutty, and I haven't yet seen a big battle) as well as the Diablo DAE event. Is there a guide to Vanguard, that lays out the basics that I could view in the mean-time?
I'm as ever delighted to see people getting in to the spirit of April Fool's, albeit over ten hours early. A lore article for Eligium...Wow, I'd better watch outm because next years will need to be mindblowing to top this!
@Utakata Yeah, I was going to reference Blizzard's game as well. I really think that this sub they're insisting on is going to be a thorn in this game's side. A difference, they don't have the track record of Blizzard. For instance, they've shown admirable levels of support to the likes of Diablo II, and Starcraft keeping them patched and playable, responding to feedback and offering content in patches for these. so I have a lot of faith in them, and rate their work. If they tell me it will follow, I'm satisfied with that, (After all, they placed a similar timeframe on D3 at one stage, and now, that game is very much real, and on the way)
I just don't think I can extend that kind of belief to en-masse.
I hope this will gain Raiderz more attention online. Thanks to Massively, I was able to get involved in the test, and found it fantastic. Go see it if you can at PAX.
I particularly was interested to read about how the PvP will work. It's a lot more appealing to me if I can have my character raised to the same level as other players, take part, then return back to where I was previously after the battle. Much more drop in/drop out, I think, is a surefire way to raise participation.
I dislike almost having to feel like I'm being asked to learn a new character "on the fly". Neither am I interested in churning through battles for the shinees, but the option to give it a punt, on equal terms, is something I'm much more keen on.
I didn't find the introductory sequence wrong at all. I was impressed with the use of audio, and the tone they adopted to draw players in to the scene from the start. Overall, I thought the demonstration to be spectacular. I was very pleased to see that the Direction is almost like that of a film. Where, they've considered the impression they want to give, and use the environment and mobs/bosses in their story-telling.
The one point that gives me cause for hesitation about TSW, is their coyness about announcing the pricing structure, and solid release details. Is there a box to buy, special editions, we don't know anything along those lines. The last time (start of the year, iirc) that people queried the pricing model, it was reported back that EA had not yet decided. But, that's soon no longer going to be a valid position to be able to take. I feel that they're not saying enough, loudly enough, about something as crucial.
Thanks Massively for pointing out and embedding the stream, also, EA for releasing the footage. Overall, it has done a lot towards persuading me that they have a good thing, that looks built to last, and is accessible, without being lowest-common-denominator shackled.
@Irem I remember that HoM was also being presented as a perk of Eye of North ownership, that one could use it to display the record of their adventures across their time in Tyria - flavor text, with sprinkling of fact, because that is happening.
It doesn't invalidate the idea, because the disruption and change that took place since then could reasonably have lead to movement of the artifacts, conflict to acquisition. Please don't get me wrong, I'm simply trying to make sure I know the practical purpose of EoN's HoM, in GW2. :)
@ZayCube There's a thing that's been confusing me about a connection between GW1 and 2. I thought it was that the Hall of Monuments would allow for one generation of characters (isn't there a 200 year gap between them?) to hand acquired heirlooms and bonuses from GW to their progeny in the second game.
But, ANet is anticipating people may want to use the same 2+ word names. I find it strange.
That's nice, so the only Collector's Edition has a Charr statue in it to jack up the price. What's "deluxe" about the Runner's-Up Edition, exactly? I must have missed that.
So, that leaves to drive my interest in buying at launch, the game (being NCS - I hope their packaging quality hasn't been allowed to slack - it may even come with a printed manual!). At $60. That I haven't played, and know little in real terms, about. It's not inspiring, but it does inspire me to wait for review. That I can do, and wait and see. I don't doubt Guild Wars, but there's little incentive to pre-order, or whatever.
