I recieved the game as a present as my birthday feel on the EQ Launch day in March of 1999, logged on, immediately made a Dark Elf Shadowknight, dumping as much points as available upon creation into Wisdom, as an ancient and wise race as the Tier'Dal merrited. Spawning next to the many bodies of water in Nerriak, I immediately fall into the subterranian river, not knowing how to swim upward, spamming the UP and space bar keys to no avail, I drown. I respawn outside, set to explore the dark forests of my homeland, I see some sort of pyramid, intrigued I set off to investigate on my first EQ adventure, multiple skeletons and mummies precede to put my feeble blue newbie SK in a pretty sundress and have their way with me back to my bindpoint. I deleted him and rerolled a Halfling Warrior, dumping all my points into agility, why have hp to absorb damage when you can just dodge it, right?
If im playing a pricipally PVE/Raiding heavy game then I'd say an everquest or (bleh) wow level of class definition with some levels of customization in terms of spec or focus etc. Prot Warrior / Fury Warrior, Ice Mage / Fire mage etc
however if im playing a pvp heavy game, i think a skillcap and a long list of diverse skill is better ala UO, so different competetors can make many different unique chars to try and sqeueeze the most out of their combo and get a slight edge on the competition. For instance I was very successful on pretrammel Atlantic with a Macer/Archer/ThugThief with most skills in the 80s and 90s contrary to the 7x GM Tankmage popular of the day.
With a head full of EC Tunnel trading and oasis groups gone by, I clicked on their preorder page just to see what theyd be giving out nowadays, as I quit shortly after the abortion of Luclin dropped. I saw the beetleguise mount and pig people pet, and it made me want to shove Aradune's flaming sword through my temple.
