The Mittani gets hit with ban and resigns in wake of EVE Online controversy
Mar 29th 2012 5:21AM (Massively)I fail to see how our EvE community is different from any other MMO. I'm fed up of seeing CCP made out to be the guys, and the play base even more so. Some of the comments about our player community in these threads could easily be considered abusive and are in many respects, as stupid, ill thought and as disgraceful as Mittani's drunken outburst.
The idea that players are all lovely, sweetness and light on other MMO forums and games is truly laughable. I urge you to check any other MMO forum and you will see the same trolls, emo rage etc.
Big whoop.
I personally had real life death threats from players in WoW for kicking them out a guild. Pleasant.
But it's okay, that game has Panda's so it must be a community of happy people who never curse, or get drunk, or screw up, or never get banned (or temporarily banned) for saying something in game or out of it.
So please stop with the EvE community bashing. It's a great bunch of people, and while Goons like to play the villain, so what; it's fun that they do. We love to pretend to hate them, and they love to think they are actually hated. Alliance panel apart, the fanfest showed that the EvE player base is just a bunch of normal (slightly geeky) people with passion for what they enjoy, who actually have a laugh when together.
Why I Play: EVE Online
Mar 28th 2012 12:40PM (Massively)But I think peoples memories are a bit limited. I remember playing WoW years ago and being trampled on by some 60 rogue killing me when I was level 20 and unable to finish a quest for an hour. Apparently PvP and griefing in other games is perfectly happy and lovely in other games, but in EvE - we're all considered sociopaths for shooting another ship.
That is some tough love right there!
I would argue this opinion about EvE players is both bias and wildly inaccurate. Almost all computer games are about combat and 'winning' in some form or another. Well maybe not the Sims - but hey, if folks want to make virtual babies etc, all power to them.
If anyone ever wants a hand getting into EvE, let me know. I would be more than happy to help and point you in the right direction. I think this sentiment represents the true majority of the EvE player base.

Mar 19th 2012 1:58PM (Massively)I have to say, this feels a bit painful, given the time it has taken. I'd like to see that as an optional refund on skill points if I will only need Battleship IV moving forward to get into a capital.

Feb 24th 2012 7:09AM (Massively)I'm glad it is now very much, a secondary goal for them, I had no doubt they would continue with it, given their focus on WOD uses the same engine. As long as the core gameplay is developed, its great news.
As for those who won't come back to the game yet... can I borrow your stuff? I promise not to scratch any ships. Probably.
