ArenaNet announces 48-hour beta signup for Guild Wars 2

@Repopulation That could actually help you. I mean, they probably are pretty confident their game will run on pimp systems, so they probably need a certain amount of toasters.

Though a lappy, I'm betting one without a video card, might be pushing it too low.

Leaderboard: Leveling vs. endgame

Feb 20th 2012 12:38PM (Massively)
I can't vote on this, as it really depends on the game. If leveling is structured in such a way that it is better to be solo such as in WoW, I'd prefer the endgame, if I even get there. If it structures leveling to encourage or (gasp!) demand grouping, along the lines of CoH, I prefer leveling and don't care about the endgame.

I'd have to agree with unverified and smartstep at the top, and partially agree with Amlin above me. I absolutely prefer a game where these ideas have no meaning, and the majority of current theme parks are just occasional distractions for me, and only that because there's no monthly fee. I can only partially agree with Amlin because I find it absurd to pay an $15 for each month my pursuit of the leveling story goes past the free month. I can get months of story pursuit coupled with better game play without being charged for the privilege, and I already am. Still playing Skyrim (which would be up to what, an extra $45 over the box now, if it had a fee?), working on Kingdoms of Amalur, and replaying the Mass Effects.

So the next time someone in these comments would like to call me an elitist, skip it and call me cheap instead. I expect more if I spend more money, but theme parks tend to give me less.

According to Bioware, this is impossible.

SOE's fifth annual G.I.R.L. competition beckons to future game designers

Feb 17th 2012 1:57AM (Massively)
@myr Private scholarships and charities do not exist to push fairness or equality. They serve a purpose. In this case, encouraging more women to enter a field that lacks women.

It has nothing to do with equality for crying out loud. That's like saying all Christian charities should have to cater to the needs of heathens like me, and that will never happen.

But if you're not for any group having an advantage, you should just kill yourself. No really, not trolling. If you're a middle class white male like me, you were BORN into all the advantages needed to succeed in this country. Whining that other people might get help you don't when you started in a better place is just . . . sad.

SOE's fifth annual G.I.R.L. competition beckons to future game designers

@Everfaust Yes, guys need scholarships. I happen to be a white male, however, and I had no trouble finding them.

Stop and think about this. It's a private scholarship program that leads into a field dominated by men. How in hell would it somehow server a greater purpose by being open to anyone? While it's true that women with talent will be recognized, programs like this are the recognition. You have to completely ignore the purpose and the field to complain that this is a sign of inequality or unfairness.

And really, it just sounds kind of whiny to me.

CCP confirms keyboard and mouse control for DUST 514

Other shooters on the PS3 offer keyboard and mouse support -- I've played Unreal on the PS3 with kb/mouse. I don't believe I've heard a lot of screaming about imbalance.
But then, I don't pay much attention to console gaming.

The Guild Counsel: SWTOR is stealing my (character) identity!

"the result of an epidemic of disapproval of SWTOR that seems to be spreading around Massively's writers"

I admit, my paraphrase was a bit hyperbolic, but if you see a huge gap between your line and my paraphrase, I'm surprised you can turn on a computer.

If you're the same one claiming "most of the articles hunt down and pick at the weaknesses" then just so you know, you are a fanboi. Most of the articles simply report on the news. Opinion pieces on the game haven't been prevalent. There was a series of negative occurrences with the game, and they reported on them. What were they supposed to do, balance it out by mentioning how happy so-and-so was that he just finished a quest and hit a new level? Would you even be interested in reading about Joe Schmo's new level?

If negative stories hit the news, should they not report them because negativity is tiresome to those that like the game? Should they just let all their traffic go elsewhere to find those articles?

I'm not a troll. I'm a snarky jerk. There's a significant difference.

Oh is that the issue? Someone retroactively inserted the word "all" into my post in such a way that it appears to everyone else but not me? That's a neat trick.

Everything you said: nothing to do with what I said.

Also, do me a huge favor and point out where I expressed any opinion that indicates I'm calling out posters who disagree with me. I have no opinion about these mechanics. I simply have an opinion about comments that call the article "hate" and insinuate Massively is part of some anti-SWTOR conspiracy.

I wouldn't begin to deny being an elitist.

But I read comments making claims that all massively writers hate on this game, and as someone reading about it from a safe-distance, that is far from what I've read here at Massively.

So yes, I do think it takes a complete lack of critical thinking skills to read this article and conclude that the writer is "hating" on SWTOR for feeling limited by the mechanics. She feels limited by the mechanics -- if you don't, that doesn't make what she said "hate" about the game. That's absurd. And I won't hesitate to say that reaction is absolutely unintelligent
