Electronic Arts stock drops because of SWTOR fumbles

@Concerns

That's quite an overreaction. If you expected patch 1.1 to perform magic, your expectations were way too high. There was a bug regarding pvp valor points on one planet for level 50 players. The developers removed taxis into the area so players could not access it. They told players to avoid the area until it could be fixed. It was fixed within 24 hours. It affected a very, very small portion of the players. Bioware may remove valor points from some of the players who took advantage of the bug, or they may not. I've seen much worse in other games including dupe bugs, money bugs, etc. In a few weeks, many level 50 players will have caught up with the valor bug exploiters and this won't even be an issue.

The other points about the unsubscribe bug and workarounds... sounds like tin foil hat material to me.

FYI: The official forums often go down or get locked when the game servers are down. They were down for the patch today.

Electronic Arts stock drops because of SWTOR fumbles

One analyst says he has a feeling that sales have been below expectations and that the churn rate will be high. The stock's down 4% or about $1 a share before the close.

This analyst's comments are speculation and nothing more. Might be a good day to pick up some EA stock.

As for the SWTOR hate, I don't get it. The game's fun. Sure, it could have used a few more months of development before release, but you can say that about most MMOs. The bugs we've seen so far have really just been growing pains. I've seen much worse in other games that have been successful. SWTOR's launch is nowhere near as heinous as Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa or the latest Final Fantasy.

Of course, I see the drama posts on the official forums and here at Massively, but no one in my guild of more than 100 people has even hinted at quitting. I've seen no complaints in guild chat nor in our guild forums. It seems to me like the bulk of drama comes from trolls hoping to see a game fail.

The Daily Grind: Do you try to grab names on launch?

Dec 18th 2011 8:45AM (Massively)
I do grab names, but only on the server where I will play. I have a handful of names I tend to use in most games, but it's not a big problem to come up with others. The Star Wars setting makes it easier than in a game like City of Heroes.

The Daily Grind: Are you a sucker for MMO collectibles?

Funny that you mention comic books. City of Heroes used to send real comics to subscribers for the first year or so after release. Later, the comics were published by Top Cow. I have a nice stack of them.

The City of Villains collector's edition came with heroclix of the game's signature characters.

If I'm really into a game, I love all of that stuff and also tend to buy novels based on a game's lore. For some reason, I don't really care for statues.
