Enter at Your Own Rift: Will RIFT survive the SWTORacolypse?

Nov 23rd 2011 5:08PM (Massively)
it will but itll be much smaller. ill be moving to swtor and im somewhat of a rift fan boy. i like to ride the mmo train. play the new/biggest game untill the next greatest thing comes out. swtor, then guild wars 2 or secret world, etc ... lookin forward to wildstar also. havent been able to stick with an mmo since daoc (my first mmorpg) and then moved to wow when it released and played the first 4 years as if nothing else was going on on earth. i kinda miss those days. but things are just too different now. my old manager had just casually been playing eq2 and only eq2 since it released. he loved it. he didnt play anything else. he still plays to this day. i admire that. and i kinda hope ill find a game like that one day.

i got the beta invite on both my gmail accounts... but neither had a link for the client download or actually said when the beta was going on. it just said "in the future". i hope i didnt miss out but im starting to think i did. i logged into my account and saw absolutely nowhere that had anything to do with a client download.

ive been playing rift off and on since launch. its an incredible game IMO. yeah, its not perfect and yeah it copies alot of ideas. but its still fun to me and to alot of players. because of its similarities to other games, it does require frequent breaks (for me atleast). but everytime i resub i jump right back in and have a blast all over again. im also in Gaiscioch on Faeblight and that has increased my rift experience 100%. an awesome guild help makes any game fun.

Camelot, Tir na Nog, and Jordheim were all absolutely mind blowing. i remember running around camelot, always uncovering something new. hell, even the SI cities were pretty amazing. sigh.... old DAoC i miss you sooooo much. (yes, ive played on uthgard >

New Dark Age of Camelot patch introduces New User Experience, RvR changes

@J45neoboy the graphics got a huge update a few years ago. alot of massively daoc screen shots were before the graphics update ... why? i have no idea. the screen shot above doesnt at all do the game justice. id say the controls are much more of an issue than the graphics. and maybe the UI, but i played for years so the UI isnt "that" big of a deal for me. i just hate the way strafing works. you can only "run" straight. you cant hold A and W to "run" diagonal. it makes you do a slow strafe walk.

@rotcafnogaw i dunno how many people are familiar with the f2p Uthgard server but if mythiceabiowaremashup made an "official" f2p preShrouded Isles with new controls and a new ui.... it would be HUGE. i wouldnt mind paying a few bucks to "unlock" classes. like i said, there are sooo many things that could be done with daoc, i just dont think they really know what direction to take it. all that said, this new update looks very interesting and im seriously concidering resubbing to check it out. i miss my minstrel, cabalist, necro, heretic, bonedancer :P
