The Secret World pre-order packages feature beta access, lifetime sub, and more
Apr 3rd 2012 11:21AM (Massively)Also, did anyone else catch the slight nuance between the Master and GrandMaster packs' offerings? More specifically, I'm referring to the offer of "30 days of game time," and a "lifetime Premium Subscription," respectively.
So, not only is there a base monthly access fee, but there are also tiers of access? Nice... lol
Needless to say: Pass.

ArenaNet expands on microtransactions in Guild Wars 2
Mar 20th 2012 7:53PM (Massively)It's free2play's ugly sister, because apparently we'll first have to drop $60 just to have the privilege of "playing the game" (*cough* I mean, "buying things from the cash shop").
Likewise, if this is the alternative, I'd rather pay a sub fee...
Anyone else find it kind of interesting how both this and the theory/design that started monoclegate were both pushed/presented by the respective companies' presidents/CEOs, and not someone from the development team proper? smh, lol
ArenaNet expands on microtransactions in Guild Wars 2
Mar 20th 2012 7:13PM (Massively)So it's nothing but a cash grab, then? Interesting philosophy you're defending here.
Is the cost of driving groups of players away worth whatever money they'd gain doing RMTs in-house, though?
Word of mouth is quite powerful, and it has destroyed games before. RMTs, however, haven't -- not even Runescape or FFXI (arguably the worst infected).
ArenaNet expands on microtransactions in Guild Wars 2
Mar 20th 2012 7:07PM (Massively)To be fair, there's a difference between PLEX and Aurum in EVE. PLEX I don't have a problem with, but the concept behind Aurum sucks hairy chocolate donkey balls.
And with how this is starting to sound, I honestly don't like it much either -- especially if some of what they offer in the cash shop ends up mirroring the in-game items they're giving away in the collector's edition (and why wouldn't they? why only make such single-use items for that and that alone?).
Sure, it's great that they're trying to cut RMT 'businesses' out of the picture, but... it's like, okay, 6 to 12-months ago I was beyond excited for this game, but today, after hearing more and more about their desired pricing models and such, I almost couldn't care less about the game.
Instead of saying, "omg this game WILL be great," and defending it vehemently, I'm now of the mind that, "sure, it might be great," and I'm sitting back and waiting to see how much Anet are willing to screw up the good thing they had going with GW1's store.
Hell, even WoW's store is starting to look better than what this could pan out to be, imo...

Mar 13th 2012 10:38AM (Massively)To be fair, they have until April 10th.
I just might have to resub for a month to check this out though -- see what the game was supposed to be like back at launch... /hmm
