The Daily Grind: Which MMO doesn't get the respect it deserves?
Apr 3rd 2012 10:58AM (Massively)Man, I wish more people knew about 10Six back in the day. A MMORTS that is also a MMOFPS? How could anyone not like that? I miss glitching into the sky off the top of a UN trade building.

Mar 30th 2012 10:55AM (Massively)The issue I have with opinions on those in the gaming industry is that the end result is robbing the player of any sense of agency he might have had. The more complexity you include, the more choices you can make, and the more empowered the player becomes.

Mar 28th 2012 11:03AM (Massively)Realtime progression that takes weeks if not months to go anywhere, regardless of what you do in-game (which also leaves you at the mercy of anyone who has simply been playing longer than you have).
Resource gathering and crafting that at the minimum takes hours to produce even the tiniest of profits.
Interaction with the game world restricted to territorial control and procedurally-generated missions that go nowhere.
The ability to lose all of your progression in seconds at the whim of one of the many, many gate campers.
The restriction of your avatar to a portrait or a doll walking around a tiny apartment.
The inability to actually fly your spaceship with any kind of 1:1 control.
A community that not only encourages reprehensible behavior but revels in it because they cannot be punished.
Large PvP fleet battles that are all exactly the same, run on proven strategies that all amount to an elaborate version of focus fire.
Yeah, EVE's got that.

Mar 27th 2012 10:38AM (Massively)The Daily Grind: What game would you play were it not for the community?
Mar 27th 2012 10:36AM (Massively)World of Warcraft: What community? They have the "game" down to a science. It's a robotic routine now.
EVE Online: Since the game is about pure, unrestricted capitalism, I maintain that they are always looking for new victims, not new players. The referral bonuses only reinforce this.
Any DotA-clone: Since the original. God help you if you're new to the game or aren't as good a player as the best player on the opposing team.
