Some Assembly Required: Revisiting Origins of Malu

Mar 31st 2012 11:23AM (Massively)
"The short answer is that it changed platforms. Mid-development. Yah, ouch. But pain can be a good thing. While what the devs were originally building with was great, the developers made the difficult decision to switch in order to better meet their vision."

Look for a 2015 release, changing engines means starting all over, trust me. Yeah you can port over art, but you have to rewrite the whole game and rebuild the world.

I agree with all you saying Vanguard should have came first. I know die hard EQ fans that could only bare the visuals and gameplay for 15 minutes haha. Game is just too old, please bring on Vanguard

It is going to use HEROENGINE as well.

Don't even get started with the TOR comparisons. An engine is only as good as the devs which use it. Which means they could have rewrote a lot of the engine etc. They licensed it 5 years ago.

@Space Cobra
They are in the process of creating a new graphics engine, will take some time, but at least they are on it.

I use HeroEngine everyday. Bioware bought the engine 6 years ago when it was unfinished. They stopped taking code drops from the HeroEngine devs years ago. TOR's HeroEngine an the free HeroCloud Engine are 2 whole different beast. Two completely separate code branches with a 3 year code branch difference (if not more). You people know nothing, how many mmos were made with the free UDk, the free Unity, the free Cryengine, not many because it's not possible without source code (hope you got 6 figures to spend). HeroEngine and Bigworld are the only 2 affordable options to small indie groups for making a successful mmo.

The game was a poor package IMO, played the trial and can honestly say it was one of the worst experiences I ever had in any mmo. Tutorial was horrible, controls were horrible, performance was horrible, and it was subscription, thank god I tried it first. Not surprised at all about it's failure. It doesn't have anything to do with releasing it a little early, the game was just bad in all areas IMHO. They should have released it f2p, but at that quality not sure if that would have flown either.

Why so many haters, if you don't like the game don't play it. I played beta, wasn't my cup of tea, not going to cry about it. No one forced you to buy it, and you had a chance to apply for open beta to test. I got in free a few days before beta with a free key from tentonhammer. Congrats Bioware hope your money back, bring on Mass Effect 3!!!

They still havent' went F2P...YET? It will be free soon, hopefully it's can spark some life into the title. I subbed WAR and had a lot of fun. Game isn't too bad, although I do feel the PVE was not there, PVP was great.

The Repopulation devs talk stealth, skill lists

F2P with microtransactions are the best, you have populated servers and can choose to go with subscription. It's a win/win situation for the Devs and players fro ma business aspect.
