i would say that all of blizzard's tactics surrounding WoW in the last several months have been desperate. they know that star wars, tera, and guild wars 2 are legitimate threats, this is the first time that any game has actually been a threat to the WoW juggernaut. it just so happens that a few games are doing something different are coming around, right after a giant chunk of the people that played since beta and vanilla lost interest in the game. i know many people that started playing in vanilla and no longer want anything to do with WoW, the only people who still love it started in wrath and cata.
i played Amnesia for about a total of 90 minutes. all the early stuff was fine, then i came to the water part and after a while i realized i screwed myself by using all my tinder boxes and lantern oil. i stopped playing at that part.
there is no way anyone should believe that. no matter how much i want to believe it. still what a random retailer says is not as official as the company making the game saying when its coming. please let it be soon.
1: we have been playing in that world for 7 years, everything gets old after a while. most people have leveled alts, and did content multiple times. 2: with the dungeon finder, and flying mounts usable everywhere. the world just feels tiny anymore, and server community means nothing. 3: they have gotten into a pattern of releasing content every 6 months, so there is not a lot to keep people interested between patches. 4: progression no longer exists! every new raid tier, they just give players the previous tier gear, so they can do the new stuff.
the vast majority of WoW players are casual, so i think they will still be interested in it for several years. but i feel like something new needs to come along for the more hardcore people, something different, something great.
it is nice to see moba games that are not complete DotA copies with key differences! don't get me wrong, the differences in all the DotA style games do completely changes the way the game works. it is just really nice to have something completely different!
and this is one more step to making the moba's a legit genre, and my favorite genre!
